Just did clean install from Vista to Windows 7 Professional.
Amongst several problems that I am working through the latest one is this.
Error in Device Manager: Base System Device

Have tried Sony Vaio website support section but can't see anything related to this. ANyone got any ideas?

No Display & Base System Device Drivers Missing On HP DV9000 Laptop
Sep 3, 2011This morning my HP DV 9000 laptop screen comes up grey with no discerning images. I have an additional monitor attached (for TV) and booted into safe mode with networking and can see the desktop in VGA on separate monitor only.
Looking in Device MGR I have two 'base system devices that need attention. They are not identified as to what they are only PCI Bus 7 device 5 function 3 & PCI bus 7 device 5 function 2.
Win 7 Prem Home 32 bit SP1
Intel 5500 @ 1.66ghz
2GB ram
NVIDIA geoforce 7600
Last night - everything ran fine. Read newspaper online & watch TV on separate monitor. Everything closed down without issue.

Mar 7, 2011I have an Asus G73JH-BST7 Laptop and recently it's been freezing. For the past two months it has had issues with programs hanging for 1-3 minutes then quickly responding again. About a week ago the laptop began to freeze and wouldn't come back and would required a hard restart. I decided to make use of my warranty and took it into a geek squad store. They told me they ran chkdsk and "other" tests to check the HDD and it passed all the tests and they couldn't "Replicate" the problem. So, I took the laptop back and it's still hanging/freezing. Whats the best way to go about diagnosing this?

They are listed under other drivers and when I look at the properties there is no information given as to what its for.The first two say base system device and the third one says coprocessor. None of them can be updated from the manager because it cannot find the drivers online. I believe the first two have to do with nvidea but everytime I try to download the driver it does not work. Dec 11, 2012I have a 3 Tera HDD. (WD My Book Essential (USB 3.0)). Last night I uninstalled a software which I do not remember its name by mistake. Apparently it was related to my WD hard drive for my computer does not recognize it anymore. I checked my device manager; "Base System Device" is not recognized. I ran windows troubleshooting. It says "Base System Device" Driver is not found. I searched a lot, but I couldn't find the driver. I also ran drive checker software.
It says:

File name: MSI_GX633_Card For Windows 7.zip
Hardware ID: PCIVEN_197B&DEV_2382
I could not find this too. I also have another portable WD which is still recognized by my computer.
