Base System Device Drivers Not Installed
In Device Manger under "Other Devices" there is an entry titled "Base System Device." The message is " The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver." Also "pci bus 9, device 3, function 2" appears. Needless to say, the "Update Driver Software" nor the Sony Support Website seem to list any drivers. However, everything seems to work but perhaps I haven't used whatever function this driver runs. I'm running a Sony laptop, Model VGN-FW351J. 2.00 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo, 64 kilobyte primary memory cache, 2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache, 64-bit ready, Multi-core (2 total), Not hyper-threaded.Any suggestions to update (or install) the driver will be greatly appreciated.

Base System Device Drivers Not Installed After Win 7 Pro 64 Bit Clean Installation
I've just clean installed Win 7 Pro 64 bit on a Dell Inspiron 640m laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 processor (original OS was Vista Ultimate). All appears to have gone well but on checking Device Manager there's a Base System Device entry in Other Devices group which is showing an exclamation mark. On opening this entry it shows "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" Clicking Update Driver and searching the Internet fails to locate a driver. I didn't install an Intel chipset after the Win 7 install (this computer is almost 3 years old and Dell haven't provided a chipset for Win 7 so I'm assuming chipset support is included in Win 7 out of the box).Could anyone advise if the above is likely to cause any significant problems?

HP Pavilion Dv9000 Laptop Driver For Base System Device
I just installed Windows 7 Beta on my HP Pavilion Dv9000 laptop and everything is working really well, but in device manager I have 2 items listed under Other Devices that say Base Sytem Device. I am assuming I need some kind of driver for them, but I am not sure how to tell what they are or what driver they will need. How do I figure this out? If I get the properties of these devices under the general tab I see Device type: Other device, Manufacturer: Unknown, and Location: PCI bus 9, device 9, function 3.

Icons In Device Manager Issue After Installation Of USB Device Drivers
We had a (small) issue when installing our USB device driver on Windows 7 RC. I downloaded the newest WDK, created and signed with Authenticode a new cat file including the new OS, and built a simple installer for installing the drivers. We used the recommended functions like CryptCATAdminAcquireContext, CryptCATAdminAddCatalog, CryptCATAdminReleaseCatalogContext and CryptCATAdminReleaseContext as well as SetupCopyOEMInf. We created a new device class and therefore the drivers appeared in the device manager as "unknown devices". We added the registry keys for displaying the mini icon for "USB devices". This worked pretty well on Vista64. Using the same installer script on Windows 7 (64-bit) still showed the "unknown devices" in the device manager. As we have to prepare now our installers to be compatible with Windows 7 and we need to know if this is a bug or if there exists a workaround.

Only 1 CPU Showing In Device Mgr. On Dual Socket System
Performed a clean install of Windows 7 Professional on a Dual Socket PIII system with 2 Intel PIII 1ghz processors on Asus motherboard that has a VIA chipset. In the Device Mgr., under the Processors heading, it only lists one Intel Processor. At the least, it should list 2 Intel Processors to reflect the 2 physical processors mounted in the 2 physical CPU sockets. When WinXP Pro SP3 was installed on this same computer, it did show 2 processors in the Device Mgr., and I believe Win 7 should as well. I have several other Dual socket workstations with Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate installed on them, and they show 4 processors in Device Mgr, for the 2 physical and 2 virtual Hyper Threading processors. Does anyone have any idea why only one processor is being detected and/or reflected in the Device Mgr.? Do I need to install some Chipset drivers? Or should Windows 7 have installed drivers for the chipset?

No Device Drivers Were Found
No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK. Windows XP-32bit > 7-64bit I have now spent many hours now on this and this is the latest error message i get after redownloading and going through all this malarky. I am getting very frustrated and heartly sick of MS. They are every example of a monopoly for the economist and will be for years. It is an absolute disgrace that they never even got 10 students to try and download when they uploaded; it's just basic. The money I have spent buying it have been long exceeded at a personal cost in time. I feel cheated.

W7 Installation: Device Drivers Not Found
I bought a W7 Home Premium, the discounted version for students, and I'm trying to install it on my Acer 6930G (500GB, ram 4GB, ...right stuff for W7). I'm actually running W Vista x86, and I know that in order to run W7 x64 (the one I bought) I must do a custom installation from the boot. And I'm doing so, well trying to... After the window asking for my location and keyboard input, I continue but then I get stuck. A new window pops up asking me for a device driver...it stated "device driver not found"... I read a lot on the internet, but that's driving me mad... how can I solve the problem and having that OS running?! I'm going to sue Microsoft if that OS is not gonna run... xD

Custom Install Issue - No Device Drivers
I downloaded the student edition of windows 7 Home Premium, I am currently running Vista Ultimate so cannot do an upgrade and have to do a custom install. I downloaded it fine, ran it, it opens up fine with the blue windows 7 opening screen, I select install, then select custom install. In the next window I have an empty white box which I presume is supposed to list my HD's allowing me to select where I want to install Windows 7. None of my HD's are showing up, I'm given the option to browse or scan, when I select this it gives me the message- No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK Any suggestions?

Realtek NIC Drivers - The Device Could Not Start
Windows Update suggested I update my Realtek NIC driver and as i had had problems with it, i installed the driver. However, the driver was a version from 2007 and the original was from 2008. It also did not work at all - "The device could not start" device manager told me. How do I escalate this to MS or are they not bothered?

How To Stop Win7 From Trying To Install Device Drivers ?
I installed Windows 7 RC. Initially, my HP Officejet J6480 printer did not work (the printer did, but the scanner and fax did not). As recommended on this site, I reinstalled the HP drivers using compatibility mode "Windows Vista" and everything seems to be working fine. However, every time I boot up, Windows 7 trys to reinstall the HP device drivers and after a few minutes, reports failure to do so. Is there some way to shut this off? The attempt to install the device driver delays my ability to do other things on the computer. I noted a similar post and the suggestion that the user install the "Windows device driver". However, I am not sure how to get the "Windows device driver". Isn't that what the computer is trying to do when I get the message? Russrich

Acer Extensa 5630 - No Device Drivers Were Found
I have a acer extensa 5630. It has vista installed on it. Last week I was in the middle of restoring my computer to factory settings when my computer died, when i put it back on I started getting a "no BOOTMGR" type of message. Ive been on google for 3 days trying to figure out what to do, and I saw somebody wrote, to go on command prompt (the only thing I have been able to get on is my bios settings and the restore options, but i kept getting error when trying to restore). So I went to command prompt to diskpart to make partition 2 active. Volume settings I picked the one with c drive. I have a copy of Windows 7, 32bit I put the cd in and it comes to the window for "Select the driver to be installed", A little window pops up that says "No device drivers were foudn. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK". I hit ok and nothing happens, I can click Browse but I have no idea what im looking for. Can someone tell me if my BIOS settings have anything to do with this?

Why When Uninstall Drivers In Device Manager Automatically Reinstall Later ?
I have windows 7 RC 64. I have 2 4850's in CF on an asus p5e3 deluxe. I've been experiencing random blue screens, and after running diagnostics on mem, HD and PSU I've concluded the most likely cause is the microsoft drivers that automatically install for my 2 ATI cards in Crossfire. I get a blue screen when I try to install the drivers from ATI's .exe, and when I try to update the drivers from device manager to ATI's most recent 9.7 ccc I'm told that I already have the most up to date drivers. So I'm trying to uninstall the drivers through device manager, including the hdmi hd audio, but by the time I uninstall all of them and try to run ATI's .exe the drivers automatically update again. Which is really frustrating. Why would drivers that I manualy uninstall just reinstall 30 seconds later?
