since yesterday the CPU usage on task manager doesn't go above 50% no matter what i run on my pc (benchmarks, movies, games) and I need more than 50% to watch movies so movies are playing slowly. I have no process stealing CPU time and I'm protected with Microsoft Security Essentials.
View 9 RepliesWhen I first boot up the machine and start using it (win 7 ultimate 64bit) the memory usage stays arround 40%. If I keep using it, the memory usage will slowly increase until it reaches 99%. If I boot up the machine and just leave it there for a couple of hours, the same happens.I try to restart (via windows), it logs off, shuts down the system, the coolers keep spinning, the motherboard lights are still on, but it doesn't boot up again. It remains like that. I have to restart via reset button or power button.

In the task manager the CPU usage rarely exceeds 10%. I have disabled all unessential startup programs and services and have defragged my HDD. There's a very little possibility of malware as i run Avast! which is fully updated.

system: inspiron 1420 windows 7 issue: suddenly slow system (cpu usage usually raises to 100% when opening any programs such as a web browser, then dips back down when everything is loaded enough) attempted solutions: anti-virus, malware, anti-spyware programs | chkdsk, sfc /scannow |memory diagnostics | adjusting appearance | using task manager to locate highest cpu usage program (none of these attempts have identified the problem.)my system which is a dell inspiron 1420 windows 7 was recently given a clean install to windows 7 from vista. everything was going fine for about two weeks when suddenly everything started to become sluggish.now when i for instance open a video on Internet, the video will buffer, and while that's happening the audio that plays sounds like a droning machine as if it was being disconnected from the matrix, ha. after the video loads enough, the sounds remains normal. not only that, but the mouse will stop, stutter, freeze, then continue after the video has loaded enough to where the mouse can move again. i'm also experiencing freezes on this machine, and usually when the computer does freeze the mouse pointer disappears.
i have already tried many things, such as running anti-virus, malware, and anti-spyware programs which had all come up with no threats. i've run chkdsk, sfc /scannow (which did in fact find corrupt files, but they were unable to be repaired. if anyone can tell me how to repair those files that cannot be repaired, i would appreciate it), and i've also done memory diagnostics, all of which are not identifying with the problem i'm having.
until a couple of weeks ago my PC was running perfectly, quickly, etc but one day i turn it on and suddenly EVERYTHING is slow.For example, every time i open a folder in explorer, i have to wait about 30secs for all its contents to load, chrome is being un-usably slow (same with other browsers) even just loading a google search. when i listen to music it often cuts out for several seconds and everything freezes up etcetc but throughout this my CPU will stay very close to 0% (like it should be) i have run virus checks, windows repair, a DDS check (whatever that is) etc and nothing seems out of place. on top of all this now windows is suddenly starting to question if i am using genuine windows 7 (i am) AND have got a few seemingly random BSODs?

My computer was running fine until yesterday. Today it takes over 20 mins to boot up and is too slow to use. I haven't really done anything out of the ordinary.

As the title suggests, my cpu usage is high and the computer is running slow and lagging, ex. itunes skipping, etc. I have deleted programs, ran spyware and antivirus programs, and ended services and applications in msconfig.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI just installed a completely fresh windows 7. I wiped and formatted the hard drive prior to installation. For some reason the install took like 7 hours. And afterwards, it still runs horrifically slow. I checked task manager and it shows my CPU usage at 100%. I checked applications and processes, and there are very few there, and all are between 2-8% CPU usage. I'm not very tech savy so I'm just going by the number shown under the CPU column in the Processes tab. Also it says there are 33-35 processes running, even though it only lists about 8 in the task manager. I've only installed 2 things since I installed windows 7, and those are google chrome and microsoft security essentials. Before someone says that either of those 2 could be the problem, they were installed afterwards, and it was slow and laggy before then. Windows has supposedly updated all the stuff it needed to because it restarted and updated a number of times, and I'm no longer getting update messages.I'm using an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz with 4 gigs of ram.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI`m having serious problems with my windows 7 machine. It started yesterday when I was getting blank screens. TOday I turned on and its running very slow, freezing up and i noticed an svchost.exe process was using about 6gb of ram. I had to reboot about 5 times just to geta taskmanager up and then it would freeze up again. I tried a windows restore to about 4 days before incase it was some virus but it hasnt fixed the problem. Everything is ok in safe mode and i`ve tried running dr web virus checker aswell as installing norton antivirus and malwarebytes on an old windows xp installation on the same pc but theyre not finding anything.
Really dont fancy having to reinstall windows.
One of my computers keeps crashing while doing tasks like browsing files on the HDD or surfing the web. I'm attaching a copy of the minidump file. I've looked at the result from the Windows Debugging Tool, but I'm not sure how to read it as it's my first time. I did note the names "fltmgr.sys" and "SearchIndexer" stand out.I'd like to point out that no new programs were installed prior to the BSOD's and that I've updated all of the drivers that I could find for the motherboard since the BSOD's. I could not get the BIOS to be updated because Gigabyte doesn't seem to have a 64-bit version available. I'm currently running a thorough disk check on the HDD.

Things I noticed before crashes:
- Internet stops working
- Computer becomes sluggish
- Seems to crash while multi-tasking (multiple windows, downloading+browsing, etc.)
- Windows Update is unable to install SP1 for this machine. It downloads but fails to install.
I have a ACER D255 netbook with intel atom N550 (1.5ghz, 1mb L2 cache) 1gb DDR3 memory and 250 gb hdd. lately it has been a tad slow and freezing up will using google chrome. my task manager says right now that CPU usage is 4% but Memory is at 75%, sometimes up to 90%. it also says that i have 89 processes running.

My laptop when I download a file, downloads at usual number(575 Kb/sec). Windows firewall if off, no virus on, I have tried everything from reloadiing Flash Players (11). a 2.90 mb file will download in 10 minutes. before seconds. Please give me a way to go. Ihave called Wild Blue three times, and literally, after ten minutes they hang up on me. I bought a group of people from India that will fix everything! for 166 dollars. They tried the best. all that happened isthat they took me off of being ghe Administrator so that they can get in into my computer(I won't mention their name). My router is Airport Express, which up until now it has ran flawlessly. I have reset router. No joy.

The software works normally but when I open a file of this software on my machine (PC1) The software crashes and the opening of the work done on this software is too slow, but if I get a job done but in the same software that is stored on another computer network software is not slow.
I did a test on another computer (PC2) and when I get work on the network (eg in the PC1), there is slow but when I open a saved work on the same computer (PC2) software is too slow. Does anybody know why this happens? I think it should be something related to XP mode, because it happens in 2 PCs
I was tidying up my book files in my Calibre library and deleted around 850MB. I noticed that the deletion process took around 5mins to complete. I thought that was strange as I have had multi GB files in my Recycle bin many times before which have taken no more than a few seconds to delete. I also make a backup of my Windows on the first of each month and delete the previous months back up which is over 50GB and this only takes a few seconds as well.

Right now, it can take 8 - 10 minutes to permanently delete all these files from a single run, and I usually have 4 - 8 runs to deal with, so do the math. I have tried shift-del to permanently delete but it doesn't work - Windows still copies everything to the recycle bin. Also, while moving the files to the recycle bin, I often get an error message: "Error 0x80070050: The file exists." Bottom line is that it takes a *really* long time just to delete these files and I need a quicker way to do it.

Offline Files are enabled and Indexing Options are activated for the following: Outlook, Offline Files, StartMenu, Users.Searching files through the StartMenu works very well while we're connected to our company. A search result doesn't last more than 2 seconds.But if we're connected to the company through a VPN connection, a search through the StartMenu last up to 15-20 seconds, which is very annoying.So in my opinion, a connection to the network shouldn't care the indexing process of Windows. Why are the indexed files affected on a slow connectivity? An indexed file is something that donot need a network connection because it looks through windows and not on a server or something else.

If I enter a folder that has many subfolders and extra files, it seems to load everything at once in alphabetical order, then there's a delay while it sorts the folders and the individual files separately, also in alphabetical order. This delay can be something like 5 seconds with just a few hundred items, and it just grows from there.
Yesterday I needed to copy some data stored on a DVD and it took more than ONE hour to transfer the files (11250 files and 151 folders for 625MB) to the hard drive.
I booted on my WinXP partition (so the very same hardware was used) and it took 20 minutes for it to complete the same task.
The data I needed to transfer were full of very small files and although I could hear my DVD player spinning at full speed on WinXP, it was very choppy on Windows 7 as if it was constantly seeking the files on the disc.
I added a second machine to my home network, and want to share files back and forth between machine A and machine B. Both are Windows 7 x64 ultimate. I have a shortcut on B's desktop to a folder located on A called "sharedfolder". When using system B and I click in Asharedfolder, I can then click on a pdf, or an avi, or txt, or whatever, and it loads just as quickly as if the file were on B's hard drive. But if I click on an exe file, it take about 15-20 seconds to load. No prompt, no nothing, it just takes that long. It happens with or without no antivirus running.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSometimes if I open a file by double clicking it in windows explorer, it will sit doing nothing (and that explorer window is then tied up) for a few minutes! Then the file opens normally in the correct application. But opening the application first, and getting it from the file open menu, or dragging the file into the open application is ok. The problem goes away if I reboot windows, but can come back again later for no apparent reason.
