Desktop Window Manager Stopped Working And Was Closed
Dec 2, 2009Why do I get this?. Desktop Window manager stopped working and was closed? I am using motherboard P4S8X with Windows 7 just install. And 2 gb memory.
It maybe a driver issue with the MOBO or some other device. Try and update the MOBO drivers to start with and see if that does anything. If worse comes to worse, you can do a start repair by booting from the W7 DVD.
I was actually thinking this was more specific to the video driver, as DWM has close ties to it...

Jan 22, 2010I get this problem or error "Desktop Window Manager stopped working and was closed" every time I stay logged on but "switch users". When I come back to my user account, there are two messages on my taskbar that both say "Desktop Window Manager stopped working and was closed". I have uninstalled and reinstalled my Nvidia driver and updated to the latest driver version. I have even went to "task manager" and located the dwm.exe and made a dump file.

Before you think "this doesn't belong on this forum", let me explain what I am trying to do, and then what I need to know.I am trying to find a way to make it so that if I have a window that is "closed/minimized" to the system tray (because I use taskbar hider, I need to), I am able to see them on rocketdock and actually use the "right-click" options (because if I try to right-click the icon for a shortcut, for example steam, it just brings up the rocketdock options instead.So what I need, although I'm not sure if it will work, is to know if there is a folder location for the "system tray", or if you know a different method that could allow me to do what I mentioned above.

May 10, 2011I have this very weird problem in which the 'Notification Area Icons' Window automatically pops up right after Windows Boots. Usually it shows after a minute or so after windows boots. Even if i keep my computer idle it shows up automatically (but only following a boot). This is irritating me quite a lot
I tried re - installing Windows but still the problem persists. I have a IBM Thinkpad T510 loaded with Windows 7 professional 32 bit. I googled this qute a lot but could not find a fix.

Jun 7, 2010I had Windows Seven installed on my PC for almost a month, and I installed windows XP recently on another drive on my hard , but I can't start windows seven anymore , I have tons of applications on win 7 and I don't wanna lose them . I have two main problems :
1- what should I do to be able to use my old windows seven again without formatting the drive ?
2- How can I install windows xp with win 7 and use both of them ?
Windows Automatically Installing Wrong Drivers
Jan 5, 2010I installed my new graphicscard yesterday (XFX GeForce GTS 250) and when Windows 7 booted, it automatically started downloading drivers -without my approval- (probably my own fault for not having UAC on) before I even had time to mount the driver CD.
It turns out those drivers were most likely wrong, I still don't have OpenGL support and there is no settings program for the card. So... I have no idea of where to find my drivers and delete them so I can install the one from my CD. I've tried, I found my old drivers but I can't find the ones Windows installed. I can't even run the Setup.exe in the CD, it just loads and nothing happens. Yes, I have tried RAA. UAC is always down to zero.

Jun 23, 2012I installed Ventrilo on my computer a few days ago, and I believe the installation wizard installed more than once. Now every time I start my computer, I get a message asking me to install it. I even tried uninstalling then original Ventrilo App and following the wizard to install again, but after I restart my computer, the message for install, still pops up. As well, after I toggle cancel another install box pops up.

In installation window the window is minimised as always and some option get hidden, like they cut off only slightly showing a portion of selection button.. Like when installing program there shows selection button like, NEXT to carry on installation and CANCEL button to stop installation. It happens like NEXT button partially showing and other selection button cut off outer of that minimised windows.. Same problem with apps which use by default minimised window. Some selection option cutoff.. Though there no option to make those apps maximised.

May 13, 2009I've been testing AVAST 4.2 fairly rigorously on both VISTA X-64 and Windows 7 7100 X-64.
Straight from the MS site I downloaded the .VHD Virtual disks (XP compatability mode)
AVAST reports that the .VHD file contains a "COMPRESSION BOMB". Now this doesn't actually tell me what this is -- but the fact that it reports something with the word BOMB in it means it can't be good.
Now as this VHD file was downloaded from the official Microsoft site I assume it HAS to be OK (or does it - I would imagine MS regularly checks its own websites - there's plenty of people out there who'd jump at a chance of attacking a MS site if they could).
I'm going to download the XP comparability mode again and have another scan.
VISTA again reports the file as CLEAN) so I think there still might be a couple of things AVAST need to fix in Windows 7 when reading compressed or "archive" type files.

Sep 25, 2011On an avast scan it is detected 3 different win32:cycbot-KI infections. Two of the infections are in the sys\wow64\kernel32.dll (emul) and the third is in the sys\winsxs folder. I am unable to get avast to quarantine them and receive the message "error: virus chest server is not running" whenever I try to quarantine. I tried doing a boot scan but it was very slow and I received hundreds of error 0x80000006 (no more files) messages which I either quarantined or ignored (it prompted me for each one). I'm not sure that the boot scan did anything because after I ran it I still saw the 3 cycbot infections.

Dec 13, 2011is it true if u got avast and if u dont do boot scans , your computer is not protected well. i got it on my laptop and it pisses me off because i have to respond to every threat it finds in boot scan. if i just do quick and full will that be okay.about mse some of my friends told me it detected nasty viruses from his computer.which one removes rootkits better, which one does not allow a virus to enter your computer, and rootkits ,which one will now allow privacy control virus , which one will not allow google redirect virus on my pc and remove it better if i do catch it.and Alureon E virus get to my pc becuase they are the ahrdest to remove.i tend to use torrents alot but i do read the comments.34 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer.
