After the resent update of avast to version 7.0.1407 the windows take about 30 sec longer to boot!!! Also I take a look through the settings of avast and i find this two settings: "enable rootkit scan on system starup""enable raw disk access during avast! boot-time scan"I disable both of them, but still windows take about 30 sec longer to boot.

It takes forever to bootup, startup and it sometime hangs when I open up a program or typing.For the bootup, it takes very long time on the window logo, after that the black screen, followed by the welcome page with the loading cursor. Each of this process take a long time. For startup, its not so long but its still quite lag. For the opening up of program and typing, everytime I open up my visual studio, it will take a long time to show up and even if it showed up, it will be "not responding".So I will have to open it a second time before I can start using itWhen I am typing my codes, it will randomly hang and show that the program is not responding. I am still able to move my cursor though.

So i reinstalled windows using the recovery partition. After reinstalling windows my computer is still very slow, often becomes unresponsive, windows updates will not download or take absolutely a lifetime to download. I am at a point where i do not know what to do. It is mid semester in school and this computer is important.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am building a new gaming system, considering that the screen is only 1920x1080 resolution, from most benchmarks I have seen, the i7 and GTX670 I put in it shoul be enough to handle any current game at highest settings at a playable framerate.So I put in a temporary junk HDD and installed Windows 7 (64bit professional) just to test it out and try different configurations on it before I install it for real on the actual system drive. After downloading the demos to known hardware-straining games like Crysis and Metro 2033 I was pretty satisfied with the performance.Evetually, I ran windows update and installed all recommended and optional (except for Bing Desktop) updates. After several reboots and re-updates to make sure everything was installed I shut it down.The next day I start it up again and notice that it was taking two to three times as long to boot up..... fair enough, I did just install many updates. But now I noticed that performance had taken a total nosedive as well. For some reason it took several minutes after the desktop had loaded for any program to actually start up. The Crysis demo (even with vsync turned on from the console) had massive tearing where there wasn't any before, and the Metro 2033 demo had slowdowns, especially when turning!
I suspect its MSE thats causing it (I am going to install NOD32 as my real antivirus anyway) but is there any way I can test what could be causing this lag in case it isn't MSE? I can't just not run Windows Update after all, that would be beyond stupid, especially on a fresh install. Pretty much the only thing that changed between the last time I ran those demos and now was installing updates.
(I am using a XPS Studio 9100 which is a Desktop PC) Since about 3-4 months I'm having problem with Windows Update & Internet connection.My Internet speed is Anti virus: Avira and Avast! View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed a retail copy of win 7 on my laptop and have been experiencing some issues. At first everything worked fine but out of the blue my desktop/folders have not been auto-refreshing. Whenever I try to delete or create a new folder I have to manually refresh to the folder in order to view it. When shutting down my laptop it takes 5+ minutes and when my desktop is loading after booting up the laptop it takes several minutes for everything to load and for the win 7 chime.
Finally, it won't allow me to update. When I try to use the windows updater it hangs for a while on "creating restoring point" (which may be normal) but then permanently hangs on installing update 1/16 at 0%. If I try canceling the update nothing happens and even when I try to shut down the laptop it attempts to install the updates but hangs on update 1/16.
From researching these issues I've realized that the auto-refresh problem is not uncommon and has something to do with a network. This may be unrelated but these problems only started to occur when I was transferring pictures via a USB stick.
For a couple days now, I haven't been able to update Avast or Windows Update. I tried reinstalling Avast but it did not work. I have tried everything. I scanned my PC with every major malware program but they don't detect anything. What should I do? I'm too scared to reinstall Windows 7. However, I will if I need too. I also want to format my disk in the process. How could I do this? Also, I am scared that I wont be able to find the drivers I need for my GPU and such if I reinstall and format my disk. Where can I find these drivers?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been testing AVAST 4.2 fairly rigorously on both VISTA X-64 and Windows 7 7100 X-64.
Straight from the MS site I downloaded the .VHD Virtual disks (XP compatability mode)
AVAST reports that the .VHD file contains a "COMPRESSION BOMB". Now this doesn't actually tell me what this is -- but the fact that it reports something with the word BOMB in it means it can't be good.
Now as this VHD file was downloaded from the official Microsoft site I assume it HAS to be OK (or does it - I would imagine MS regularly checks its own websites - there's plenty of people out there who'd jump at a chance of attacking a MS site if they could).
I'm going to download the XP comparability mode again and have another scan.
VISTA again reports the file as CLEAN) so I think there still might be a couple of things AVAST need to fix in Windows 7 when reading compressed or "archive" type files.
Best suggested avast free for win 7x64 bit.

View 10 Replies View RelatedOn an avast scan it is detected 3 different win32:cycbot-KI infections. Two of the infections are in the sys\wow64\kernel32.dll (emul) and the third is in the sys\winsxs folder. I am unable to get avast to quarantine them and receive the message "error: virus chest server is not running" whenever I try to quarantine. I tried doing a boot scan but it was very slow and I received hundreds of error 0x80000006 (no more files) messages which I either quarantined or ignored (it prompted me for each one). I'm not sure that the boot scan did anything because after I ran it I still saw the 3 cycbot infections.

Its not a problem with my ISP or my router as my PSP, phone and PS3 can connect to the internet. This problem occurred when I got an error from Avast something like "Avast cannot monitor your mail (error 10050/1044) please check Avastvc.exe is not blocked by your personal firewall" First I had error 10050 then it went to error 1044.I've tried many CMD related solutions including a registery merge (winsock)
Edit:Also my web shield (on Avast) is down and I cannot turn it on.

is it true if u got avast and if u dont do boot scans , your computer is not protected well. i got it on my laptop and it pisses me off because i have to respond to every threat it finds in boot scan. if i just do quick and full will that be okay.about mse some of my friends told me it detected nasty viruses from his computer.which one removes rootkits better, which one does not allow a virus to enter your computer, and rootkits ,which one will now allow privacy control virus , which one will not allow google redirect virus on my pc and remove it better if i do catch it.and Alureon E virus get to my pc becuase they are the ahrdest to remove.i tend to use torrents alot but i do read the comments.34 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer. I have another trace which measures 3.5GBs in size - no idea why so large, I guess part of the error ('can't stop trace'). Can't upload it anyway.

Everytime when I do a restart, it takes a while to boot up my PC. I forgot the procedure to cut those softwares from running up. The only thing I remember is unchecking some software in a list. So when I do a boot, it doesn't take long.

I have been noticing a gradual increase in boot time to the desktop - not actually sure when it was relatively normal. However yesterday it took so long to get there ( 5 minutes plus), I though it was not going to boot up. Did eventually get there after a few reboots.
This morning it's still slow but at least I'm getting there. System seems fine once it's up and running. This is what I'm getting;
Black post screen - seems to take a while to initialise USB controllers - around 30 seconds or so. Goes onto Windows splash screen - sits there for around 20 seconds.
Screen then goes black - monitor says "no signal detected" - sits there for around 30 seconds Welcome screen appears with whirring thing in the middle - around 20 seconds
Desktop appears but can take around a minute to fully load. Going into event manager and viewing the ID 100 log shows;
