Change Drive Letter For Presumable Needed Boot Disk
Dec 5, 2009Windows 7, 32 bit, 12 partitions on 3 hdd's, Windows 7 on C:
When migrating to Windows 7 I first tried to update my Vista which I had used happily for 2 years. Installation went fine, but there were too many problems after.
So I bought a new 1 GB hdd and installed Windows 7 there from scratch. It is on a partition with drive letter C. I copied most of my old partitions to the new hdd, went fine.
When trying to delete one of the old hdd's with EASEUS Partition Master Home 4.1.1 manager software, there is one partition on it (which once before was called C, then successfully renamed to Z ) which I can't delete. I has on it the following folders:
$RECYCLE.BIN
Boot
System Volume Information (locked)
-->and files:
BOOTSECT.BAK
bootmgr
They are only 30,5 MB in size. So I resized the partition to 1 GB.
EASEUS characterizes it as Status = System, Pri/Log = Primary. Windows Disc manager characterizes it as System, Active, Primary Partition.
My question is: Can I change the drive letter from Z to B without risking the whole system to be unbootable? (and maybe never be bootable again?) When trying I just get the usual Windows warning.
I would be most grateful for an answer explaning what and why or why not.

Nov 16, 2009I lost my Event Viewer, and had to do a repair installation to fix it. Unfortunately, during the repair install, Windows decided to rename my second HD as the D: drive... it was K: before that. Now I cannot access any of my docs, pictures, music, or videos through the normal means... they don't show up in libraries or explorer, and apps like Restorator and Sure Thing (CD labeler) cannot find them. I think that means the paths are broken..?
It won't allow me to rename the HD back into K: (it's not listed as available). I can access the data by clicking Computer > D, and I can see the data is there, but its unusable as of now. Any ideas?

Sep 10, 2011In the Sound options window, you would see your several devices under Playback and Recording Devices. The thing is I have audio devices that have a number next to them, eg. "2- Creative Sound Blaster". Windows always does this, but I would like change these device names, and I don't know how.

Apr 30, 2012there is a better way to change my audio playback device in Windows 7 (Ultimate, Service Pack 1, 64 bit). As background, I keep my headset plugged in at all times and swap to it when needed, but like to use my speakers most of the time.
The only way I've found to swap between headphones and speakers is to right click the volume button on my taskbar, open "Playback devices", select my headset (listed as "Speakers, Realtek High Definition Audio"), then click "Set Default".
Aside from feeling rather tedious, the swap is not recognized in nearly all programs if they're already active. In other words, if I boot up a program with my speakers set to default, swapping to headphones via the above process will not change the audio output device for that program until I quit it completely, set the new default, the restart the program.

Dec 22, 2012I recently updated my NVIDIA card with audio drivers and now it can make the audio go through my television using HDMI (watching videos). The problem however, is that when I go into the Sound settings and change the default to the NVIDIA "device", I need to reboot windows to activate the change. I have tried going into the mixer and the sound setting and I can't figure out a way to change the active audio device without having to reboot (or even just log out and log back in).

Feb 29, 2012i'm wondering if there is a way to automatically change the audio playback device depending what monitor the application making noise is on. for example when i watch a Internet video on either of my 19 inch desktop lcd monitors i want to sound to play through my pc speakers. if i play something on my lcd tv through hdmi i want the sound to play through the hdmi to the tv. ive done alot of searching and i cant find anything anyone have any suggestions?

Sep 2, 2011I have a Touchmate PC with two sets of audio ports (3.55mm jacks or 1/8" ) the front ones are not working (because they are disconnected) so i wish to use the rear ones, however, windows is set up so that the audio output (into my headphones) send information through all ports but the front mic, which is fine because i use the rear output port. My problem is that the microphone settings will only allow the microphone to be read through the front microphone port. 200 Mb Partition Needed Or Not ?
Mar 2, 2009I've installed windows seven just before Christmas,and it served me well till middle of February,when "I had to explore it a bit more".And of course,I have deleted something and there was no way to boot win 7 up again.It booted correctly,but after"starting windowws" everything stopped.I tried to fix it,but no,and even worse,I was kind of short with space on C partition(cos me idiot,of course,made it just 30 gigs),and have turned off system restore.
Just for the record how smart I am,I made win 7(beta OS ?!?) my primary and only OS.
I had to save my files and didn't reformat C partition right away cos I planned to reformat it after I take the ownership and back up my documents.
So,I have installed windows seven again on E partition,which is now,after reassaining letters,C partition.And literally,now I'm having dual boot,both windows seven,one is working and one not.I have backed up my files a long time ago from now,but still didn't format that partition,and today I decided to do it.
And here is what I don't know.
When I created my C partition for Windows 7 first time,I got an extra 200Mb partition,but when I've installed Windows 7 second time on that "E"partition,I didn't have to make that 200Mb extra partition.
And now I wonder should I merge that 200Mbs with another partition and format them together,or do I have to leave it where it is?
I'm not sure,and I don't even know if another win 7 installation is using that 200Mb partition or not?
What should I do?
And one more thing,I have deleted windows folder from ex "C" partition couple weeks ago.
No Product Key Needed
Oct 28, 2009I have just done a clean install from vista to win 7 using a upgrade version of win 7 hp, following the tutorial off this site, but when doing the install it didn't ask me for the product key or if i wanted to activate win 7, any one else had this happen, do i need to do anything. When i look at system page it shows a product key that doesn't match the one in the box & there is a button that asks if i want to change the product key, it also states i have 30 days to activate win 7.

All is fine, but my ASUS's Drivers Disk didn't autorun, neither it got installed, but still all basic drivers are here so i suppose i won't need that.
