View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a home network with 4 computers; 3 wireless, 1 Ethernet. When they were all XP, things were working fine. Now 2 of the wireless systems have been upgraded to Windows 7 with the "family Pack" retail upgrade.
I believe I have made all the proper permissions and security policies, but this is not working. The Windows 7 system can access the XP system folders. but the XP systems can see the Windows 7 system but get an access violation error.
I've tried some of the suggestions in other thread, no joy. I turned off the McAfee firewall, but that doesn't help.
XP doesn't know anything about "Homegroups" I have a work group name and its set on all systems,
What am I missing?
how do I allow editing a song while it's playing in WMP, without getting this annoying message of "the action cannot be completed because the file is open in windows media player"?I would like to add that it won;t let me update it even if the song is not currently playing, but is just on the list on the right side window.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy internet connection shows 'no internet access' even though my ISP shows the connection is coming into the house just fine. I usually use a router (NetGear-WNR3500U) but I right now I have the Ethernet connection plugged directly into my PC. I tried directly plugging into my laptop and the internet works just fine. So I know the problem resides in the PC.
Some troubleshooting things I have tried.
-Power cycled my modem, router and PC.
-Repinged my connection from my ISP(Comcast Xfinity)
-Used the reset option on the router and the modem
-I was walked through the internet options needed with the tech support from my ISP to make sure DHCP was enabled and every other setting was correct, and he cleared me that all settings were correct.
-Tried ipconfig commands to /renew and /release my IP When I tried ipconfig /renew I get the error 'An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server'
-Restored my PC to a restore point where the Internet was working
All of these options did not work.
What I think the problem is and I am not sure how to fix it, when I run the ipconfig /all command my Auto configuration IPv4 Address shows 169.254.112.76 which I was told is a router IP address even though I am plugged directly from the modem to my PC with an Ethernet cord. So I think that's my problem? But I am not sure.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't make Windows explorer open MKV files with my default media player. I tried modifying KMPlayer's settings to associate MKV files with it, but had no effect. I tried:
- Right clicking a MKV file in an explorer window
- Choosing "Open with > Select default program" from the context menu
- In the opened "Open With" dialog box, browse to find kmplayer.exe, then select it
- Click OK to return the dialog box
- (At this step, I don't see kmplayer.exe is listed in the "Open With" dialog box)
- Click OK to exit the "Open With" dialog box
- To see that my media file is still opening with Windows Media Player
Why doesn't windows associate MKV files with my selected EXE file?
i have 3 computers - a laptop (vista wireless), a home theater pc (win 7 wireless) and my main computer (win 7 wired) with all my media files.i have a network setup and the laptop and the HTPC can connect to each other when i click their icons in network neighborhood. i can also connect to them from my main computer (QUAD-CORE) but if i try to hit the QUAD-CORE icon on the laptop or the HTPC i get - network path not found. if i type 192.168.1.100 it connects perfectly (i can see all my shared files so i don't think there is a problem with the way i have shared the files) i think my problem is that when i click on the QUAD-CORE icon it is looking for the ip address but something is broken.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAbove is the error that comes up after I troubleshoot this issue. okay so to start off let me say the things I have done.
1. I have restarted my computer multiple times and restarted the modem and router.
2. I've checked my services to make sure that that weird code is not there and it was not.
This problem just came up recently and had no issues with it before and this computer has been running for over a year.
I was wondering I anyone could help with this. I am receiving multiple BSOD daily. I have already ran the HP Disk check and it has reported no problems. I have included the dmp file as requested.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been getting a "Windows Framework driver violation" BSOD when I am playing video games on my PC. This started after I installed Guitar Pro 6, which might be a mere coincidence or it might not be. I did the whole analysis stuff and here is the result:
Windows 7 forums.zip
I ran DriverGenius and updated all drivers that it suggested. Also ran windows update and it updated some stuff (updated everything except the language packages for windows) and still nothing. I also downloaded the latest driver for my graphics card. A beta version that just came out. The game still crashes. I have only tried playing FIFA 13 and it keeps crashing at random times. Sometimes when I am choosing the language, sometimes in the middle of a match, sometimes in the menus. Just completely random.
Constantly having to "play games" with Permissions and Security and "denied access". First of all, I don't understand why Windows 7 Home Version is NOT designed for home use but apparently for some large corporation the size of...uh..maybe...MICROSOFT? Why isn't a HOME version created for use in a home where we don't have an "Administrator" and we aren't dealing with CIA files or hiding from our spouses.(usually).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new Lenovo Y470. I've had it about two weeks and just recently I started noticing something odd. Everything else on the computer works perfect except for one thing. When I'm playing music from my hard drive, if there is more than one song listed in the playlist (specifically when I'm playing only one album), the media player will play a seemingly random amount of the song and then skip to another song.A couple points about this problem:-This happens in BOTH iTunes and Windows Media Player.-Sometimes it plays 20 or 30 seconds at the beginning of the song and then skips, sometimes it plays all the way through the song till about the last minute and then it skips.-In WMP it skips to the very next song.I have searched around and seen a few people on forums with this problem, and there seems to be no answers. Some even said the problem was also transferred to their iPod.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use WMP 12 to rip cd's to the WMP library. I insert the disc and rip it in WAV format. After the rip is complete, the last song on the CD appears in a separate folder that does not transfer to a media player with the other songs in the primary folder. The last song appears as Unknown artist and title.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have numbers in front of some my music files. Not tracknumbers. The numbers are included in the file name. (03 Sunflower or 01 - Beyond The Sea) etc. My question is, is there anyway to remove the numbers. I can do by renaming each file. Is there any to do this other than renaming one file at a time.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi have tryed itunes, vlc, windows media player, and there all doing the same they all crash when playing any song. its not like the program crashs its the song stops playing then a few seconds later it will start playing again. i cant work out why they all do it so it must be a system problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSuddenly a couple of weeks ago, my songs can no longer be sorted alphabetically by name. The songs are sorted by artist, then by song name. I've tried all the common sense steps on how to sort but nothing works. This occurs on iTunes Windows, iPod, and iPad "Remote" (controlling a mac mini with iTunes). Here's a video just so you can see I'm not doing it wrong:
In the video, I'm following advice to click "View as List" then click "Name" to no avail. I also tried clicking other fields and then "Name", but the result is the same-- sorting by artist name first then song name.
i have a lot of songs 320 kbps and not enough space on iphone so i would like to convert them to 192 . but the only problem is ( with xilisoft video converter ultimate) that after the converting im loosing all the tags of the song . the file name its all i got .
View 7 Replies View RelatedLately I've been getting Japanese kana (I think) substituted for english characters in some song titles in Windows Media Player, Nero, and PowerToGo CD ripping software. It seems the computer thinks I want Japanese, where available, for the extended info it gets for music CD's. So if I put in a CD to rip, say, Mozart's Magic Flute opera, the London Records Solti/Vienna Phil version, WMP will show track info in kana characters, like this:, or somethine kanji, like this:I can't seem to figure out why it's doing this. Also, lately WMP library has begun substituting other cover art for various albums, so one particular album cover photo appears on lots of unrelated albums. Don't know if that's related, but WMP seems to be a POS

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've converted a MP3 to a WAV using "Roxio-Copy and Convert". When I did the conversion , there was an old song title ( from a previous conversion ) in the name slot. After the conversion I simply renamed the song to the correct name.If I play that song with any other software , it will have the correct name , if I use windows media player - it defaults back to the old name in the "Now Playing" screen. If I look at the song properties , there is no trace of the old name anywhere - how is media player finding this old ( incorrect ) name , and how do I stop it ? Problem is I have converted many songs with the wrong name - so its not just happening with one song.

I have a Dell Inspiron 545s Desktop - Intel Duo Core 2.93, 6gb RAM, 720gb HD, 64bit Windows 7
I get the message: (every time I try and open a folder on my c/drive - Can't access Windows Explorer folder on the taskbar and any other folder or file by double clicking it. I can open them by right clicking, then open)
"this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a progra or, if one is already installed, create an assocation in the Default Programs control Panel".
I can open applications. But, I can not open the folder for them lets say in c:/program files -- the only way to open them is by rightclicking, then open. If I double click, I get the above error message. (same issue with "my documents", "My pictures", etc).
Included with the above problems: I now, can not access User Accounts. When I go into Control Panel, click User Accounts.. I can not manage existing ones, nor can I "Add or remove user accounts". I click the link and nothing happens.
I have someething built into the computer called "Dell DataSafe Backup". Its a recovery partition/part of the HDD that saves all my files for a recovery. However, I can NOT access it. I click the "Dell DataSafe" in my taskbar and nothing happens..
