ATI Driver Won't Install

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop and I installed Windows 7 Build 7100 on it.

However, Open GL games do not work, and I have the ATI 8.56 graphics driver installed and I am trying to upgrade it to the latest 8.61. However, after I run the installer, my screen does not blink and once installation is complete, I do not see a change in the driver version - and catalyst is not installed as well.

However, when i am trying to re-install it says the drivers are already installed. Any ideas as to whats going wrong? Its a 32-bit OS. I cannot run any OpenGL games, they fail saying it could not load OpenGL.

Epson NX400 Scanner Driver Won't Install
Tried installing the scanner both from the installation CD and updated Vista 64bit drivers, and I get an error asking me to restart and try again. After restart same problem happens. Printer drivers install fine, it's just the scanner drivers. Called Epson and they have no beta drivers for Windows 7. Anybody know of a work-around? If I can't find a solution soon, i may have to go back to Vista...

Matrox Win 7(x64) Display Driver Won't Install
I'm having problems installing my Matrox driver on windows 7(x64) version.

I've been using the 32bit version of windows 7, and i managed to get the matrox driver installed no problem. (i used the windows compatibility mode)

I've tried the same method again (Windows compatibility mode) and downloaded the Vista(x64) version of the driver. It suggests the right diver to install but then says i have an incompatible version of windows.

I have read up on the problem, and i have seen suggestions to check that the device ID is listed in the display drivers .inf file.

I've checked that and my device ID does exsist in the driver .inf file. So now i'm stumped, is there another way to install my driver?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why my driver won't install.

ATI Radeon X300 Monitor Goes To Sleep - Won't Wake Up
I have Windows 7 running on a system that has an ATI Radeon 300 based video card. The card has two monitor connectors, VGA and DVI. I am using two monitors, Number 1 is a 19" 16:9 monitor connected to the DVI, Number 2 is a 15" 4:3 monitor connected to the VGA port. The primary monitor (with the Task Bar) is Number 1, DVI, 16:9.

Here's what happens. When I leave my Windows 7 computer the monitors go to sleep. When I come back to do some more work, and I move the mouse, only display Number 2 wakes up! I can move the mouse around and Display 2, the 15" 4:3 monitor on the VGA works great, but the main display connected to the DVI will not wake up. I have to do a shut down using the power button on the front of the computer!

Weird, huh? Any clues? I do like to have my computer monitors turn themselves off when not in use.

XP And 7 Install Issues (Won't Boot Into Win 7 Install)
I have XP SP2 installed. I used EASEUS Partition Master to split my drive in half, one half being XP, the other half being a future install of Windows 7.

Put DVD in, selected the blank partition, began the install. Once it gets to the first reboot, it will reboot and go straight into XP. There is no option to choose Windows 7. The XP boot.ini has only one entry for XP.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking I need to add an entry for Windows 7, but have no clue what to put and I'm also guessing I'd have to add a few special tags because it's booting into the setup process of Win 7.

All Programs Won't Display And Speech Recognition Won't Start
My speech recogntiion won't start. I don't have a system restore that far back, but it hasn't been working since 3, maybe 4 updates back and I am now just getting around to it, since I have had other concerns lately. The error I get is "Speech recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported.

The recognizer language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in the Speech Recognition control panel under Advanced Options." I go there and press certain buttons and I sometimes get the error message "The requested task can not be carried out because the neccesary engine can not be created. Please select a different engine and/or audio device."

I have tried changing the laguage and then restarting and it still won't work. I am using the same mic I was using before when it worked. I have not installed any new sound drivers when it stopped although I have looked for the sound drivers since and there are no new ones.

I also had two other problems after the same Windows 7 update with the All Programs not displaying in the Start Menu, but I have dont a temporary fix with that, but it is still not working the way it is supposed to as I had to make a new sub folder in the Programs folder and change the location to that folder every time I start up Windows and so now I go into All Programs and then a second folder, which is ok for now, gonna write a batch file to do it for me anyway.

The other problem is that my sidebar wouldn't start, but I think I fixed that last night. As my gadgets are now working.

Network HP Printer Won't Install
Trying to install an HP 2100 tn printer through a Linksys router to a Win 7 62 Pro machine. Win 7 drivers for Asus MB, Marvell Card and latest firmware for Linksys router.

Tried Win 7 printer installation routines a jillion times...and it couldn't find the printer (power cycled router and printer several times). Used HP latest network diagnostic but it can't find the printer. Used latest PCL 5, 6 and PS drivers from HP - nothing. Used netsniffer with HP diagnostic and it looks like the diagnostic sees the printer (reports the correct i.p. address) but doesn't identify it as a printer.

Went back to XP where the printer works and found it is currently working with IPX protocol.

Anyone have any ideas? I don't want to buy a new printer, or stick with XP.

Sigmatel Audio Drivers Won't Install
Have a tablet PC that I just installed Seven onto. Even though it's an old box, Windows update found nearly all of the drivers. The one it didn't find is for the AC97 Sigmatel audio.

So, I grabbed the drivers I used for Vista (they're actually XP drivers) and tried to install them. Did this again and again, using different compatibility modes every time. Got no indications of failure, but never worked, either.

Tried removing the device and having Windows Update search for a driver. No luck.

Tried installing driver from selecting from list. Only Sigmatel driver in the list is for HD -- which I don't have.

Even tried the MS WDM driver -- and it refused to install it.

I read in another thread that there are supposedly generic AC97 drivers --but I can't figure out how to install them.

The relevant driver files from Vista are STAC97.sys and staco.dll -- which tells me this is a STACS AC97 audio chip. But I just can't figure out how to get a driver installed.

Conexant AC-Link Drivers Won't Install
I have a HP Pavilion zv600 (model zv6123cl). The drivers section for my computer on HP.com only lists XP drivers, which fail to install. The Vista section (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=500261&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us&y=6&x=8) only has drivers for the quick launch buttons.

I've also downloaded the package suggested at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/f4dfec8a-e2c9-44b0-ac8b-f8dcfe80ab4a, but these also fail, even when checked for running as admin in Vista compatibility mode.

Windows Update doesn't have any downloads. Device manager lists the device as "Muiltimedia Audio Controller", with the little exclamation point.

Does anyone have any other drivers for the Conexant CX20468-31 AC97 Audio that might work with Windows 7?

Canon LiDE 50 Scanner Won't Install
I have just installed Windows 7 64 bit dual booting with Windows Vista 32 bit.

I can't get drivers for my Canon CanoScan LiDE 50 Scanner to install on Windows 7 (works fine on Vista)

See on the Canon Website that they are not showing any Windows 7 drivers for this scanner which I can't get to work.

Tried LiDE 60 drivers but could not get these to install with my scanner.

Is there anything I can do to get this working. Or do I have to reboot Vista if I want to continue using this scanner?

Instead of installing I only get the option to download.

Starting the download first leads to failure, then the W7 msg "Do you want to start with the approriate settings?" and then I can choose between IE and Firefox.

But it still doesn't install correctly, because empty pages and the msg as in line 2 keeps appearing.

South Bridge Drivers Won't Install
I just built desktop with ASUS M4A78 Plus mobo and was getting BSODs constantly using windows 7 64-bit. I just installed XP 32-bit and ti's running fine. One thing I noticed is on XP the south bridge drivers installed but on Windows 7 whenever I tried to install them using catalyst manager or driver from ATI's site it would not install. It would attempt to install the north bridge drivers which the log would say successful but catalyst manger would always say they weren't installed.

Has anyone experienced this problem or now a fix for it?

Windows Upgrade Advisor Won't Install
Trying to install Win 7 Upgrade Advisor on a two-year old Vista machine (DELL XPS 420). Clicking the setup icon to install gets me nothing. No installation screens, no warnings, no errors, nothing. I tried installing on an older XP laptop and the software installs there just fine. I've checked the other related topics and they seem to be related to problems installing on XP, not Vista. Any ideas what I'm missing? I've never encountered an installation that fails before it even starts.

Upgrade From Vista, Won't Finish Install
I've tried four times to upgrade my vista 64 bit to windows 7, everytime it gets to about 62% complete it just stays there.  I'll leave it running for two days and it just won't finish.  I've have over five thousand my lastest build, and it all runs great on Vista 64.  The compatibility wizard shows no issue before I start the upgrade.  If I boot to the CDrom first with the windows 7, it starts coping the disc and then I get the Friggin BLUE Screen, everytime.

I've been building sytems for over fifteen years, I've owned every kind of windows ever made.  I've probably paid for Bill Gates car (one of them anyway).I could do a clean install, but I don't want to pay for all the software I've installed again.

NVidia GeForce 8500 GT, Drivers Won't Install
I have Windows 7 32bit installed on an ASUS P5RD1-VM mobo with an nVidia Geforce 8500 GT graphics card.

I have tried numerous times to install the Windows 7 (32bit) Driver from manufacture site, but when it tries to install the drivers, I get an error message saying "No drivers were found that work with your device. Setup will now close."

I don't get this! I'm on that graphics card right now, in Windows 7, and typing this thread...

Also, in Device Manager, there is no "Display Adapter" listed.... I can't seem to find any evidence of a generic display driver either....

I've already solved the problem of my sound not working (SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio) and this is the last thing I need to get Windows 7 working for a REAL test run!

How can I get these drivers installed?

Win7 Won't Install On 64 Bit Compatible Hardware
I just built a custom PC using the guts of an older Alienware with a few new upgrades:MOBO: Asus P5N32-SLI DeluxeCPU: Intel Pentium D 3.4GHz (4MB L2) supports EM64TRAM: 4GB (4X1GB)

I tried installing a retail copy of Win7 Ultimate 64-bit and i get as far as the beautiful blue flowery background and a mouse cursor that just sits there doing nothing.  When i pop in the 32-bit DVD, then i can install without a problem.  Once the 32-bit installation finished up, i checked the "performance information and tools" and the reports stated that my machine is indeed 64-bit capable.

I also checked the Intel and Asus support sites and determined that both my CPU and chipset are 64-bit compatible.  The only other thing i can think of is that the Win7 DVD does not contain a 64-bit version of my SATA controlller and thus cannot access my hard drive.  The issue with that is there doesn't seem to be an option to load drivers as it used to be available in XP by pressing F6.Any ideas?

Win7 Won't Boot After Install Without DVD Using 2 HDD
So, I have an interesting problem with installing Win 7 from XP. I'm doing a full install over the old XP drive.

I have an unusual hardware configuration. I have 2 HDD's, one is SATA, and the other is on a legacy IDE. The SATA drive is a WD Raptor which I use for the OS and the IDE is a slower, larger drive I use for storing data. Additionally, the IDE drive is the Slave on the IDE chain. In XP, this worked great, because the system would boot to the SATA drive and I could use both drives.

When I went to install 7, both drives appear in the list, but their letter names were reversed: the OS drive was listed as "D" and the data drive was listed as "C". I didn't think much of it until later. I installed on "D" which was the SATA drive. After install, I noticed that my IDE drive wasn't listed in file explorer.

So I opened the Disk Manager and found that both drives were listed, but only the install disk was active. However, the IDE drive was Disk 0, and the SATA drive was Disk 1 and labeled "C:". I activated the IDE drive and it became "E:" (the DVD-ROM was already "D:"). I attempted to reboot and got an error "BOOTMGR is missing". If I put in the Win 7 install DVD it will boot to the SATA drive.

I read some of the other threads here and attempted fixes using "bootrec.exe" to no avail. I finally decided to reinstall again on the SATA drive. Again, 7 listed the SATA drive as Disk 1/"C:", and the IDE drive as Disk 0/(no letter). This time, I didn't activate the IDE drive and tried to reboot. New message "No system disk...". Put in the Win 7 DVD and it boots to the SATA drive.

My current theory is that Windows 7 is getting confused about the drive ordering when creating the boot sector on the drives. I ran out of time last night, but I thought I would unplug the IDE drive and do a fresh install on the SATA drive, then plug in the IDE drive after things were booting normally.

I did check the BIOS settings, and the SATA drive is listed first in the boot order.

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe

AMD 4200+ CPU

OCZ 4GB RAM

(IDE) Hitachi 320GB

(SATA) WD Raptor 120GB

nVidia 7600GT

Can someone offer some advice on how to solve this so I don't need the Win 7 DVD in all the time?

AT&T 3G Card Software Won't Install In 6956
The Dell Mobile Broadband Card software installs and works fine in Windows 7 v.6801 64-bit but will not install in 6956 (32-bit). It gets most of the way through and then rolls back to nothing. The Compatibility Troubleshooter didn't help no matter what combination I tried. Besides 6801, I have successfully used the same software in XP Pro x86, XP Pro x64, Vista 32-bit and Vista 64-bit.

I read somewhere that IE8 might be the culprit so I vLited the 6956 without IE8 but it still will not install.

Any ideas?

Some Programs Won't Run/install, Explorer Slow, Ect.
It was all fine until yesterday. I copied over a game from my laptop the night before (I just installed 7 on this computer recently, was copying over stuff from my laptop) and also finished installing World of Warcraft and not long after I turned off the computer.

The next day I switched it on and didn't notice anything at first but some programs wouldn't run (Winamp would have a blank space where the music list normally is).

I tried installing some virtual drive programs such as magic disc and power iso which I usually use for isos I rip onto the computer (I lost some discs before so I've been doing that recently) but the magic disc programs wouldn't run properly and power iso wouldn't progress during its installation.

I tried installing some anti spyware like AVG and Avast (Spyware doctor detected 300 odd tracking cookies that appeared in the past week I installed, way more than it did with my vista laptop) but they would just either not respond (and then pop up with a message saying it took a while and wouldn't respond) or just not even progress when it was installing (on the part where it begins putting down files)

Explorer itself is slow and takes a while to load when on "My computer" and usually wouldn't display USB drives. Once it did but it didn't actually open it up when I clicked on it and prevented the window from responding.

I have used task manager to close all these down when they wouldn't.

When I tried switching off my computer it just stayed on the logging off/shutting down screen. I tried leaving it overnight, expecting it to finally switch off but it only ende up going into sleep mode (and popped up with the log in screen when I waked it up)

I have switched the computer off and on a few times but its still the same.

I also got the disc I used to install and tried to repair it but it wouldn't boot from the disc when I switched on the PC and when I opened it up and ran the setup file, it came up with the usual "are you sure you want to run this" dialog and didn't do anything.

Win 7 Clean Install Won't Detect SATA Drive

If I try to upgrade it shows the drive and both partitions and want's to know which partition. Win 7 RTM Won't Install On Drive With Plenty Of Space
I am trying to install Windows 7 RTM on a Gateway P-7811 computer with lots of space left open on the drive, and Windows 7 Setup keeps on giving me the message that there is "Not enough space available on the hard drive to install". I had this same problem with the Windows 7 RC1 and Beta versions, and I traced it back to using Easeus Partition Master on the drive to remove a OEM Recovery Partition and combine that space into my primary partition.

While I could do a clean install, there is a lot of information on this drive that I do not want to lose, simply put, and was wondering if anyone else had this problem and, if so, what the fix is for it?
