View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to restore my sons laptop to the factory settings w/o cd and all that happens is a continous loop of restarting with an error message that says that windows 7 cannot continue. I have tried holding down the alt key while pressing f10 and still the continous loop occurs.
View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday when I turned on my laptop windows wouldn't start and launched its error recovery. When I launched the startup recovery it gave me a black screen for 5 minutes, then an Acer desktop screen with nothing on it. The loading light will stay lit up for 5 minutes and turn off without the computer doing anything at all and stay at that screen for hours on end.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows. However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore. It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I boot my computer, it come up loading files, the open the boot recovery mode. If I leave it, it says that it fix one error, then it restarts and does the same again. The error was that it the boot.ini was missing. So I booted it up with ubuntu, and created an empty boot.ini file, then booted the minitool partition wizard (Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.) and configured the boot.ini. But still no luck. It's booting into recovery mode because that is the first partition.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMY daughter was having problems with it simply turning off. After looking at and running Real Temp and Prime 95, I believed it was simple over heating .It is under warranty so I took it in for repair, I just picked it up and they said the fan and vents needed cleaning, that is why it is getting hot and shutting down. Now I re-ran Prime 95 and it still shut down after 1 hour roughly. Real Temp said it was 89 Degrees C.
So is this normal for laptops??? I costume build my PC and it never shuts down on running Prime 95. Even I did overclocked it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe original problem was that the Windows 7 boot manager had gotten installed on a different drive (M: ) than the main installation drive (C: ), and I wanted to move it from M: to C: .One posted fix involved, among other things, declaring C: to be Active and M: not to be active anymore. Getting C: to be Active was not so hard. Getting M: to be inactive involved diskpart. Both C: and M: are in the BIOS, and I moved C: to come before M:. This change in itself was not a problem -- I could still boot at this point (but it was still from M: ).Since the diskpart change, I can't boot at all. I've tried booting from my rescue CD (Award 6.00PG BIOS), and I get as far as "Booting from CD/DVD: Press any key to continue". Whether I do or not, I next get to "Windows Boot Manager: Windows failed to start..." The keyboard is dead at this point. Since it's the WINDOWS Boot Manager, something must get read either from the CD or from the C: hard disk. The file with the problem is stated as /Boot/BCD.It's not clear to me whether the diskpart caused a problem with the rescue -- I guess not. But at any rate, my simple problem now is: How to I boot from the rescue CD? I've tried rescue CDs made at two different Windows 7 computers, and also the original Windows 7 (upgrade) installation DVD.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy sister just got a new laptop with 7, then accidentally installed a friend's version of 7 on top of it, thinking it was Microsoft Office. I'm trying to restore to factory settings so she doesn't lose all the software that came with the computer.
I know the recovery partition is on the computer (I made it appear by assigning it a drive letter). But I cannot boot from it (or whatever I need to do to access it).
I have tried the following:
1) Advanced Boot Options -> Repair -> System Image Recovery: no system image
-> System Restore: no restore point
2) all possible F# keys at startup, including F10 which got me to Edit Boot Options, which seemed hopeful because it named the partition number, 3, but did not allow me to change it (the recovery partition is 2).
3) F2 -> setup (nothing there)
4) burning an iso of Windows 7 recovery disc, which just gave me the same repair tool as in the 1st attempt.
5) setting the recovery partition as "active" (in fact, I think it was already active).
just installed free macrium Windows 7 64 bit backup. created image bu on external hd. created both pe and linux recovery cds. inserted cd, shut down system; turned on system, no boot from either cd; windows came up normally.

I received recovery discs from acer. First I deleted the 100 mb partition as per acer and ran the recovery. It finished and the system rebooted however I received the following boot error msg: Windows boot mgr.Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change may be the cause.
1. Insert your windows install disc and restart.
2. choose your language settings and click "next".
3. Click "repair your computer"
File BootBCD

It is my understanding from acer that windows 7 is re-installed from the recovery discs. Don't understand why this msg. Dont have any windows 7 discs. The acer logo does come up after boot but goes directly to the screen with the above info.
My last windows update went haywire and left me unbootable. I ran a live linux distro off an SD card to retrieve my HDD data, then decided it was time for a reformat/fresh windows 7 install. However, the factory reset process in my Gateway laptop failed a couple of times, and then the third try I would get stuck at a bootloader error and was thoroughly screwed. So I burned a Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (correct) cd to an SD card and used that to boot, formatted the HDD and installed a fresh clean Windows 7.Unfortunately the sticker on my laptop is worn out and while it's 99% legible Windows isn't accepting it. I went into trial mode, and realized I was also missing a ton of drivers and whatnot.I know that installing through the recovery partition, while full of bloatware, I get my Windows product key and proper activation, as well as all the drivers and stuff I need.... F8 into startup repair doesn't help, and instead starts a recovery process on C:, not X:.When I try Gateway's alt-F10 keysmosh it stops halfway through "loading files" and I get "An unexpected I/O error has occurred," 0xc00000e9
View 2 Replies View RelatedI did the stuff that is listed below, but first, my issue and a yes or no question: If I boot windows, without the Linux CD in, it shows me the "Windows Error Recovery" if I hit start windows normally, it starts loading the windows 7 screen, half way through the Windows Logo, it freezes, then brings me back to the windows error recovery, so I tried "Launch startup repair" it then brought me to a "Windows boot manager" and says 1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart, 2 choose your language settings and then click "next" 3 click repair computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop that will not boot up, It comes up with windows error recovery, and gives the option to launch startup repair. When I select startup repair, it shows a screen that says it is loading files, but then it only loads a black screen with the arrow. I tried booting from a recovery disc made on another windows 7 computer, same results. It will not boot past the black screen. What else can I do? It does not give me the option to boot in safe mode, and the laptop did not come with a windows 7 os disc.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop which until yesterday was dual boot (Windows 7 and SLES11). However I decided I would rather just use Windows with VMWare for any Linux needs. To do this I deleted the Linux partitions (OS, workspace, swap) from within Windows and used this extra space to add to my workspace partition on Windows and create a new partition for my VM's to sit.I got all this working very nicely and was happy with it until I rebooted to machine to see GRUB was still set to be the boot loader which is unable to do anything with no Linux partitions. What I do have is the Windows 7 Reinstallation DVD that came with the laptop however the DVD drive of my laptop is broken. I am currently writing this with a MacBook Pro (Mountain Lion) and so the only solution I can think of is using media oN DVD, and burning this to a bootable USB using the Mac and then setting up BIOS on the 'broken' laptop to boot from DVD. However I am not sure how to create a 'bootable' USB.
1) Can I use my Windows 7 reinstallation disc to recover Windows boot manager
2) If so can I do this via USB?
3) How could I make my USB 'bootable' using my Macbook Pro
4) What are the steps for recovering boot manager from the installation media
5) What is the more elegant way to 'delete' Linux partitions and ensure Windows Boot Manager works (I may also run into this problem with a workstation I set up in same way yesterday but have yet to reboot0

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I've been trying to solve this since it randomly started happening yesterday, but to no avail. I have a Samsung Q430 Intel i5 with Windows 7 x64 Home Premium (SP1), and the computer randomly started to lag, so I restarted it. It logged in successfully the first few times, but became extremely laggy after login, until it froze up completely each time. I then tried the recovery CD, and it worked the first time, but nothing changed, and it was still laggy. However, the computer could not even get past the black loading screen anymore, and began on a continuous reboot cycle, each time ending with a flash of a BSOD that I couldn't catch. It restarts to two options: Launch startup repair or Start windows normally, both of which end up freezing and restarting.I have tried:-Safe Mode (worked first time, but was laggy, and now it just freezes during loading)-Last Known good configuration (nothing happened)-Recovery CD (becomes stuck while trying to find the OS, says "Drive E: 0 bytes, windows 7 and never finishes loading)-Installation CD (stuck at entering setup screen)The only thing that really works is the Ubuntu Live CD.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was in the middle of reinstalling Windows 7 and the power went out. The computer Dell Inspiron 1440 is caught in a continuous loop. I have 3 options to choose from when I power up the computer:
Windows 7
Windows RollBack and
Another Windows 7.
Regardless of what option I choose (I tried all 3) it goes to a second screen where I have 2 options: Launch Start up repair or start windows normally. Regardless of which of those options I choose it goes back to the first 3 choices (Windows 7 Windows Roll setup rollback or Windows 7). I can't make any progress. I have tried booting from safe mode (F8) and it still will not boot. It blinks safe mode for a few seconds then reboots and goes through the same continuous loop.
I am trying to boot from the CD; I am using an external CD drive as the internal drive does not work properly. The boot sequence it set to the CD drive first. I have tried everything I can think of and I have been searching the internet for days and I cannot figure out how to get this system back up. I do not care if I lose everything on the drive. MI have all the discs from Dell.
My Zenbook crashed yesterday when I clicked OK to a "LiveUpdate" pop-up on my desktop. Guess it was from Asus but I'm not sure, as the pop-up didn't contain any text...
When I boot it gets to the (pulsating) Windows logo - after that I just get a black screen with a movable cursor.
None of the safe modes works - just black screens with "safe mode" written in every corner.
I've made a bootable USB with Windows 7, and that boots up fine to the install/recovery mode - sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't get that far, it just goes to the black screen even though I'm certain it boots from the USB. Weird.
Anyway, the recovery mode can't find any system images, and I can't see the SSD when I try the 'load the drivers' option. HOWEVER, the harddrive DOES show up in the BIOS, but only IF the USB is in the machine?
I have an option to reinstall Windows (I think...), but I would very much like to safe some files before the drive is formatted...
I'm frankly not that familiar with Windows 7. Also, this isn't a computer that I used, so I'm not familiar with what exactly was happening, if anything, before the situation it's in now.My friend has the following system:Gateway NV7915uIntel Core i3 330M 2.13Ghz500 GB SATA HDD4 GB DDR3 SDRAMWindows 7 Home Premium 64 BitOn Start Windows Normally, it just freezes on "Starting Windows" I have left it like this for days with no progress. On Launch Startup Repair, "Windows is loading files..." OK Then when "Starting Windows" appears, BSOD:DRIVE_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUALSTOP: 0x000000D1On Safe Mode, BSOD at classpnp.sys:PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREASTOP: 0x00000050On Debug Kernel, freezes on "Starting Windows"On Windows Home Premium 64-Bit Recovery Disc (I downloaded this, I did not make it from this system, the owner never did this), Windows Setup [EMS Enabled].... "Windows is loading files..." OK, Progress bar moves a bit and then:STOP: c00021a {Fatal System Error}The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000The system has been shut down.
If I use a Retail Windows 7 Disc, "Windows is loading files" OK, then "Starting Windows" the logo forms, and boom:STOP: 0x0000008EI took the HDD out of this system and popped it in my tower. I ran a virus scan (as expected, nothing found), ran an Advanced System Care 5 scan/cleanup. Then I ran a Check Disk (Checked - Automatically fix file system errors and Checked Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors), finished fine. no issues. All files are accessible and everything seems fine on the HDD when it's a slave in my tower. So at this point, since I cannot boot into any form of Windows or repair or command prompt that I am aware of, what can I do?
