0xc0000225 Boot Error After Extending Partition

Dec 15, 2009

So basically I have two partitions: Vista C: and Windows 7 D:, boot file is on C:

I had installed Jolicloud OS on my computer and it carved out a drive from my Windows 7 partition. later on I EasyBCD to remove grub when I figured out that it will be a pita to get my wifi working. afterwards i booted from the jolicloud installer, then used Gparted to extend the Windows 7 partition back to it's original size. i then rebooted, and it ran the disk repair, but now Windows 7 won't boot, giving me:

0xc0000225

"Windows did not start correctly. A recent hardware or software change might

be the cause.

If you have aWindows installation disc, insert the disc and restart your

computer. Click system recovery options, and then choose a recovery tool.

(Startup Repair, available in some versions of Windows, can automaitcally

diagnose and fix startup problems.)

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer

manufacturer for assistance.

I've tried to use the recovery feature on my disk, but it cannot see my hard drive and it's not able to locate a driver.

help? Windows Vista is AGONY

also: Easy BCD whe running from Vista says:

There are a total of 2 entries listed in the Vista Bootloader.

Bootloader Timeout: 10 seconds.

Default OS: Microsoft Windows Vista

Entry #1

Name: Windows 7

BCD ID: {6d574dfa-cef3-11de-a588-9966156464d7}

Drive: Deleted Partition

Windows Directory: Windows

Entry #2

Name: Microsoft Windows Vista

BCD ID: {current}

Drive: C:

Bootloader Path: Windowssystem32winload.exe

Windows Directory: Windows i'm going to re add the entry for 7 via easybcd. if you don't hear from me in ten minutes then you will know that this didn't work.

After Partition Changes, 0xc0000225 And Cannot Boot?

Mar 6, 2010

So i had two partitions on a physical disk, and wanted to delete the first and enlarge the second. I usually use gparted off the ubuntu live cd because it completely separates itself from windows details and allows a lot of disk changes in one interface; no conflicts. I moved forward with my changes and rebooted the computerI now find myself standing at this boot screens with error 0xc0000225 and a "corrupt" /boot/bcd file. Googling that information, the first hit was a solution about using gparted and getting this error. I thought perfect, but going through the steps, i still have no resolve. I have now been in and out of every boot problem thread on the internet and cannot figure it out.I have tried: windows 7 repair startup tools- rebuilding the bcd from scratch- bootrec /fixmbr and /fixbootWhen i boot into ubuntu or repair mode, i can browse the file system fine. can see the /boot files, create a new bcd file, and so on. One thing to mention is every test i have tried yeilds the same consistent error. The error has not changed whatsoever. My assumption is not that the /bcd file is corrupt or configured wrong (as the gparted solution/post suggested)

I have Windows 7 on a Partition with 37.22 GB and Unallocated space with 37.31 GB. I want to extend the Windows 7 Partition to the Unallocated space. Is there any way to extend the current/boot partition? I tried diskpart but obviously that won't work I guess since I read later that you can't do it on the boot partition? Then how else are you supposed to do it?

BSOD Booting, Error 0xC0000225

Mar 12, 2012

I got a dual boot with GRUB2, Arch Linux + Windows 7 Pro x64.Always used it with no problems, and now the Windows loader can't work.I only managed to read the status value, 0xC0000225, and something like "boot manager generic failure", "a required device is inaccessible".I tried using the repair function from my full retail dvd, but it didn't work as well. I think it's because it acted on the windows partition, while the windows boot is stored in another partition of about 100mb, wich was created automatically during the dvd installation. So I guess the solution would be giving to the repair function the right drivers to let it "see" the boot partition, but how?

My system specs:

Windows 7 Pro x64
Full Retail
The machine is a laptop, 1.5 years old
OS installed a few months ago

Not Booting After Resizing Partition, No Boot Error?

Nov 18, 2011

I had an empty 70 GB partition on the left of my computer and a 230 GB on the right side but I wanted to combine them. Windows was on the 230 GB partition. I booted GParted and combined them, it copied everything from the 230 GB partition over and resized it, it took a few hours.I assumed after it wouldn't boot and all I would have to do is pop in my Windows 7 install disc and go through the repair setup. At first I ran startup repair and it would say it found a problem, and I rebooted and still nothing.. After the bios loads and it lists my DVD drives I just get a cursor _ blinking, nothing else.. No BOOTMGR missing.Odd I thought, so I ran repair again, and again it found another problem. I did this several times before it said it could not detect a problem but it still would do the same thing.I opened the cmd prompt and issued the following commands

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildocd

I tried installing a second copy of Windows 7 on a 10 GB partition on the end, it went successfully but still blinking cursor. Theres a 54 MB partition at the beginning of type Primary, the main windows one is System and the test windows 7 partition is Primary as well. I thought the first one was usually 100 MB but maybe I am wrong.Still I am stuck with a blinking cursor?

Disc ASUS Recovery Error 1029, Cannot Boot Into That Recovery Partition

Jun 23, 2012

I've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows. However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore. It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

Can OS Partition Access A Dual Boot Partition If Encrypted With Bitlocker

Aug 29, 2012

I'm a long-time reader but new poster. I am currently running Windows 7. I want to install Windows XP onto another disc and have a dual-boot setup. I keep Windows 7 up to date and secure, but for the XP partition, I would rather not have antivirus running or even installed, in order to limit background processes. I will not be logging into any place or making any credit card purchases when booted into Windows XP. It will just be used for surfing, games, etc. Further, if and when XP becomes compromised or buggy, I will simply overwrite the partition with a backup image.

If I use Bitlocker to lock down the Windows 7 partition (with the encryption key on a thumb drive) and boot into Windows XP, am I correct in thinking the XP installation see or can't access the Windows 7 partition? If XP gets compromised, can a virus access or write to the Windows 7 partition?

Is there any other reason why this would not be secure? Can a virus write to the BIOS?

0xc0000225 After Restoring Image With CloneZilla

Mar 2, 2012

After successfully restoring the Windows7 image from partition 2 (/dev/sda2) to partition 1 (/dev/sda1) using Clonezilla, Windows7 is no longer able to boot and displays the following error messages:

Quote: Windows Boot Manager

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

[...] Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible To solve this particular issue, I rebooted with the Windows7 DVD and hit Repair... which didn't work. But even if it did, I can't do this every time I restore an image to test. Note that I used the same laptop to save and restore the partition, so it's not HAL-related.

Here's what the Repair screen says (poor man's screenshots): Attachment 201071 Does someone know what can be the cause for this error, and what can be done before saving and/or restoring an image with Clonezilla?
