[DRIVERS] Windows 7 Keyboard Programming?
Mar 11, 2011
I have 3 HP Multi-media keyboards. On my Vista system the programs for the multi-media keys are displayed in a grid in the Control Panel section Keyboard. In the Windows 7 Control panel Keyhoard the grid is there, but is blank and there seems to be no way to change any thing. It appears to me that the sytem wants to use default programs. This does not work for the Eudora email program that I still prefer and also does not give the flexibility that I prefer. For example I like to use one key to access the Character Map (C:Windowssystem32charmap.exe) and I don't find a method to do this in Windows 7

I have been using a Vista Computer which came with a multimedia keyboard. The multimedia keys can be easily programmed in the Keyboard item in the Control Panel. This works very well and lets me choose Eudora for the email program and call up the Character Map with the Calculator multimedia Key. Apparently Microsoft thought it would be easier for users to just pick a default program for each multimedia key. This gives the user much much less flexibility and since users have many different interests, flexibility is a great thing to have. In Windows 7 the Control Panel Keyboard item does show a grid like Vista, but the cells in the grid are blank. As near as I have been able to determine, there is no way to use the grid in Windows 7. HP technical support people, both telephone and email, but have not come up with a solution. The problem is made even worse, because I can't make Eudora the default email program, because it doesn't fit the current method of picking defaults. My newest computer is aWindows 7 that came with a multimedia keyboard. I wonder, if there a an acceptable solution I am missing? There was a tile when Microsoft's support was really outstanding and included outstanding documentation.

I have a five button mouse that I use with Autocad. Two of the buttons were programmed to toggle the snap mode, and toggle the ortho mode. (F3 and F8 buttons on the keyboard). Both buttons are absolutely necessary to those who use Autocad. These two buttons don't work in Windows 7 64. They did work previously under Win xp 32.Is there a way to program the buttons in Autocad? If I upgrade to Win 7 Pro 64, and run autocad in the Win xp virtual mode, do you think the two mouse buttons will function as they did before I switched to Win 764?

Max Keyboard Blog | BEYOND LIMITS for anyone who wishes to browse their site to find an answer.
Got myself an x9 for christmas, went to put it on my Desktop (Windows 7 64bit) and the backlighting turned on but the keyboard would not respond to typing. Went and tried it on my Thinkpad x131e (Windows 8) and it works perfectly on there.
Ok the keyboard is working, good. Now time to fix it on my desktop.
Uninstalled my old keyboard drivers (K120 Logitech,) restarted, then plugged in the x9. Hardware found noise turns on. Searches for drivers, done. Try to type with it, doesn't work.
If I navigate to Start -> Control Panel -> Devices and Printers I see a device called "Gaming Keyboard" which is the x9 with a (!) trouble shoot icon. If I run through the troubleshooting it searches for the drivers but it cannot find them. Turned off my firewall, removed MSE and turned off defender, uninstalled my virus checkers. Nothing, still doesn't want to fetch the drivers.

I'm gonna build my first computer today. Since I already have a notebook, I noticed that if I connected a new keyboard, Windows searched for drivers. But does a new computer also require the drivers for the keyboard and mouse before installing the OS?

This morning I was attempting to remove all my ATI related drivers ue to a display driver error I kept getting so that I can start fresh with a clean installation of the ATI video drivers. I went into the registry and deleted all the ATI related stuff I could find to make sure I had everything. I restarted my computer, and lo and behold, my keyboard and mouse weren't functioning at all, and I couldn't log in because of that. I realized in deleting those ATI drivers I'd possibly removed the USB controllers. So I had nowhere else to go except to system restore, but it told me I had no restore points, which is frustrating. So I'm stuck, i can't go back to an earlier date, nor can I log in.

I just set up a new build with Asus P8Z77-V mobo and windows 7. Not knowing better I tried to install Al Suite from Asus and it didn't install correctly. Anyway it was giving me error codes and I could not uninstall all of its files. So I then used AutoRun to delete the files. Well I must have deleted something I shouldn't have because now my mouse and keyboard don't work in Windows. They do work in bios and I set bios to defaults. I also started in safe mode but nothing. I tried a PS wired keyboard and still nothing. Since its new I have no back-up or recovery disk. I can't even install a disk because I can't click run. The only thing I can think to do is disconnect everything from mobo even the battery then reconnect and see what happens. If all else fails I guess I'll have to format everything and start a clean install again.

I have a Samsung NP-R467 laptop (Windows 7 32bit).
when I press the "S" key it outputs "s"
when I press the "Esc" key it outputs (Esc + F1)
I have tried a USB keyboard, after plugging it in, drivers were installed, computer restarted, and the USB keyboard worked without any problems.I tried the laptop keyboard in BIOS and it seemed to still have the problem.I tried the on-screen key board, no problems
the key board is not dirty
I went to Device Manager > Keyboards >Standard PS/2 KeyboardI uninstalled drivers, restarted, let windows do it's driver thing, restarted again and still had the same problem. Samsung's website doesn't have any keyboard drivers that I could find

I recently purchased a Microsoft Wireless 3000 keyboard new. After plugging in the USB receiver and installing the batteries to the keyboard, it seemed everything was going to work. The noise came on that a USB device had been plugged in and it then installed the proper drivers. When I tried to type or use any function on the keyboard, though, it was unresponsive-the keys don't work.
I then tried the following troubleshooting:
1) unplugged my older keyboard (Logitech Office Pro Keyboard PS/2). Then I tried rebooting with it still I unplugged.
2) Inserted the installation disc that came with the new keyboard. I window popped up saying that the program (intelliType) cannot be opened because it is being blocked for compatibility issues. (that is all it said-no cause stated). Restarted computer and tried it again-same outcome.
3) Downloaded the latest driver from the Microsoft website . I made sure it was the exact format for my computer (Windows 7, 64-bit, Keyboard Version 2.0). Installed it fine. I am able to open the intellitype program and configure the various key functions. No response from keyboard though. Restarted computer-nothing changed.
4) Uninstalled (what I could) the Logitech software SetPoint. From my perusal on the internet, it seems it is a very difficult program to uninstall. I deleted the folders from my c: Drive. It was not listed in 'Programs and Features'
5) Uninstalled the intellitype software, rebooted, and let the OS install the generic drivers for the Microsoft keyboard.
6) I went into the BIOS and noticed that the USB Keyboard function was disabled. I enabled it and the other USB functions (mouse, etc.) options were enabled.
7) Replaced the batteries twice-both brand new. The green light next to the battery symbol on the keyboard comes on for a moment after I install the batteries.
8) Tried different USB ports for the wireless receiver. Each time there is that sound that notifies a USB device has been plugged in. The OS even recognizes that it is a wireless receiver. Rebooted computer.
I even tried rebooting with the old keyboard disconnected but I am forced to plug it back in eventually as I have no other way of typing. The keyboard is recognized in device manager (Microsoft Hardware USB Keyboard, Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Keyboard (IntelliType Pro), Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Detection Driver). Currently, the IntelliType software is loaded and the SetPoint software uninstalled. Could it be a faulty keyboard?

A Compaq Presario CQ62 Laptop running windows 7. I accidentally spilled wine on it and the keyboard no longer worked.I purchased a Microsoft wired desktop 600, but it has no function keys. On the original keyboard I used Fn E12 to connect to a network, but with the new keyboard I can no longer connect to a network. There must be a workaround?
