i am a modder for the game medieval total war 2 kingdoms. I am currently modding on a mod called p italica and I am having problems once i download the beta it opens up in WINRAR their are 4 folders the p italica the scrips the pictures and the launch button.
View 8 RepliesI have WinRar, when I try to extract .exe files it gives me an error saying "! Cannot execute". Now before you say it is Winrar's fault you are wrong. An admin said that 7-Zip is what I should be using. But, guess what happens when I use 7-Zip? Another error. Let me address this one: "could not find this item" When I extract. Now, is Vista blocking this in some sort of way?

View 7 Replies View Relatedmy computer new less then a year ago and use it for internet access, word processing, and a little gaming. recently i've had update issues, but even stranger when I attempt to extract a file using vista's in home extraction program(dont have a third party one) I get a message "Windows Explorer has stopped working" which then immediatly is followed by "Windows explorer is restarting." I can not extract files nor move files around that are in these files without this occuring. I went to the problem reports and solutions and get the following message:

Along with that I also got a COM surrogate error this morning when I tried to extact a file. I have no idea whats going on, I called Gateway support, and they are sending me a wipe disc but I'd prefer to just fix this.
A relative recently sent me an e-mail with scanned family photos from long ago -- which, unfortunately, were embedded within the e-mail rather than attached to the message. Can anyone tell me how to extract such embedded photos.

I figured it had something to do with the untrusted programs popupthing, so i tried disabling the Windows Defender which still didn't help.
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust finished my upgrade from Home Premium x64 SP1 to Ultimate x64 SP1. I've been lurking here on the forum for a while now and having seen quite a few folks having problems with their upgrades, I thought a post sharing the steps I took, which resulted in a Smooooth and problem free upgrade, might be of interest to some.
In no way am I advocating or recommending ANY of the steps that are shown here (i.e. turning off the firewall, etc.).
First phase:
-Purchase and download the upgrade to my hard drive (shoparhive.com was less costly than digital locker). Since I live 40 miles away from the nearest store, I preferred the digital download.
-Extract the .iso file using winrar to an empty folder on the desktop.
-Performed full system virus scan.
-Performed full system spyware scan.
-Performed full system backup to the removable HP media drive.
-Burn the downloaded iso file to dvd, and the extracted files to another dvd.
Second phase:....................
I have attempted all the following to install. I corresponded with digital river who forwarded me three files for the Vista upgrade.After downloading via FireFox I begin the installation. Once the installation begins I get the following error message: "Cannot extract Windows Vista Setup to your hard drive. Please ensure that you can create files and folders in the same folder where VistaSetupPrep.exe was downloaded." Now, I have troubleshooted this way:
I have unprotected the folder that contains all the files and unclicked the Read Only option. I have attempted to copy and paste the install.wim and the boot.wim files into the source folder that is created after I have begun the install, as someone in the Microsoft Answers Forum suggested. I also tried to burn it to a DVD, which gave me another error message.
This is extremely frustrating as I purchased this OS on discount thinking it is an affordable alternative. I can also see that I am not the only one with this issue. So it would be nice if someone from Microsoft found a solution to this issue. I currently have Windows XP Media Center Edition SP 3.
Need a software that will allow me to extract audio segments from a Dvd. I'm very new to CD/DVD RW so hopefully it won't be too complicated for me.

I don't know exactly what happened, I probably mashed the touch pad. Anyway, now I can't find the files anymore. I've tried running a search but it has come to no avail. How do I find my files? If it makes any difference the files were on a memory stick.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhile installing a program, the process was interrupted and the install created 62000 files using 160gig in my syswow64 folder virtually using all my hd space. However when you go into the syswow64 folder, there is only about 2000 files and 1 gig of space used. I have set the folders to show all hidden files. When I go into the ms dos prompt and do a directory, the files match the 1 gig data.
I can't delete these 62000 files and free up the 160 gig space because I don't believe they are actually there on the hard drive but explorer thinks they are there. Is there any way to rebuild, sync, or otherwise get windows explorer to recognize the correct amount of files that are actually in my syswow64 folder.(2000files 1gig and not 62000files 160gig)
I am running Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I have a folder on my desktop named Downloads that I use for, shockingly, downloads. Anyway, there are a couple of files in the folder that are, apparently, not really there. They are like ghost files. They used to exist but now they are still visible but not recognized by any program. Also, they have a size of 0 kb!
I'd like to get rid of them but they refuse to be deleted. When I try to delete them, I get this:

View 9 Replies View RelatedA multitude of files, folders and sub-folders have disappeared (all from my "Documents"). Miscellaneous sub-folders within folders have disappeared, while other sub-folders remain intact. At first I was completely lost, as the files were there not 30 minutes prior... After assuming the worst and thinking that they had corrupted or been deleted due to a virus, I:
- Made sure my folder options were set properly (I can view all hidden files)
- Thoroughly checked the recycle bin
- Did numerous searches
- Downloaded Google Desktop and searched some more
- Ran various "undelete" and "recovery" programs with no results
- Did a system restore...........
I bought a new computer for college recently and I cannot download limewire. Everytime I try I get an error message that says "....can't open input files because of splittet files." I have no idea how to circumvent this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have encountered a very strange problem. I have downloaded two exe files recently. When I doubleclick on the exe file, instead of the application installing, what should happen but Word of all things opens with, in the case of one of them a box headed 'File Conversion - arw5setup.msi', and a similar wording in the second, asking me to select the encoding that makes my document readable. Whatever I select, the exe file then opens as a text file.
(The reference to an msi file is baffling as both files were exe files.) When it happened the first time I thought it was a corrupt file, but when it happened again it has to be that there is something wrong with my system. Is this a virus? Spybot has just come up with a clean slate ...
When I start installing it, it goes through the "Copying Files" stage instantly, and then hangs up at 0% on "Expanding Files". Then, anywhere from 10 seconds to 3 minutes later, my screen goes black like it's not receiving a monitor signal anymore, and nothing else happens.
I Googled the problem and found a ton of threads here and elsewhere with the same issue, with a slight variation, but none of them had issues posted, and they were all relatively old.

I have a laptop with Vista Basic on it and my girlfriend changed the password... Then forgot it **Grrrrr** She just wants to retrieve a couple folders from the desktop.
I've tried booting to a knoppix disk, and I'm able to see some places on the hard drive, but in Public: where her desktop folder should be it's empty.
How do I:
1. see what's in the folders
2. acquire permission to copy over the folders to a thumb drive
I was once able to extract all .zip files but since I tried using another program for compression/extraction I have not been able to open these files. The icon for the file has changed and I wonder if anyone knows how I can open my compressed files??
