When I go to C:Users I see "mine", public, and the other I deleted named "test" ....I'm positive that deleted the account and all files but I could be mistaken. Is there a fix for this? I want it deleted.
View 4 RepliesI recently purchased a new HP Media Center PC with Vista Home Premium installed. I promptly went in and created two admin accounts (password-protected) one for me, one for the wife, which may or may not be advisable, I know), and separate accounts for four of our children (these were set-up as standard, password-protected accounts). I was logged into my account (admin) and helping my son with a Word document for one of his class projects. I tried saving the document to the Documents folder in his account, and got a message saying I wasn't authorized. If I'm logged in to an account with admin rights, I didn't think that would be a problem. At least that's how it worked with XP. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone suggest a fix? Is this a matter of
tweaking a setting?
I deleted the user account, then realized that the files were not sent to the recycle bin. I also can see the hidden file, its size, and the name of the file but the warning states it cannot be opened because the path has been changed or altered. I still see that the user has many files, and I do not seem to have gained any disk space...is it still possible to get these back.
I know when police agencies are searching for files on the computer they have software that recovers a lot of evidence...is there any out there that I can use?
Yesterday my (Vista 32) system crashed so hard that it took some system files with it, necessitating a complete re-install with all the headaches and thoughtless wreckage it does to one's file system. I'm desperately in need of many of my old "My Documents" files, etc. and have searched around for them, to no avail. I've been trying to access the old Users/Account folder I used in my previous installation (where I presume most of these files are located). I need to grand admin permissions to do this, and I do, but then a new window opens up and it's literally nothing but a *black* (not blank) empty space. I get no further explanation or access.
a) Where are my old files? Have they been deleted?? b) How do I access this folder? I've seen in other forums things that tell me this users/account folder may just be a sort of 'pointer' used for legacy purposes. What's going on?
something weird is going on...this has never happened to me before, but whenever i try to download files off the internet, they just get deleted right after it finishes downloading. the part0 of the file still resides tho, and i cannot find the file anywhere on the computer.

After I did this, I read something that said don't delete backup files because it could potentially create problems with the backup and restore process in the future. I keep it updated as the updates from Microsoft come in, and for about three weeks now, I see the following two erratic behaviours: Files I delete from my desktop return from oblivion upon the next reboot. Doesn't matter if I throw them in the bin, clear out the bin afterwards, or even use shift-delete to bypass the bin altogether: next reboot I have about a 50-50 change of seeing them pop up on my desktop again. And it seems to happen somewhere around the time the boot process is complete. I have not tested this in other directories, but will do so if you think it is relevant.

After a month I no longer need some of the older backup files so I deleted two via windows explorer because there is no way that I've found to delete old backup files using the backup and restore center. Now when I go into the restore files (advanced) screen that list the available backup files on my external disk, I see the two backup files I deleted. The question I have is, what needs to be done so that Vista backup and restore does not list backup files that have been deleted?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running OL2007 on a Vista Ultimate machine. All has been well for the past year, but lately, I have run into the problem described below. It seems to happen most often when I address an e-mail to multiple recipients. It shows stuck in the outbox, although it appears that most of the time it does get sent. I often get a message to the effect that "Sent Items folder is full, delete some of the messages" (it doesn't have any more messages in it than usual, I purge them regularly).
Then, I find I can't delete the offending file. I get a simple "Folder is full" message. Also, I cannot delete any files from my deledted folder I now have 2090 files stuck in my deleted files, 6 emails stuck in my outbox. I cannot rely on sending any email from my home computer and now am relying on my lotus notes at work. I have contaced Dell - no help. I have observed all information in the discussion groups, The Intel IT people who are my neighbors have ried to address this. I am one of many experienceing this problem - even Intel staff have the same uncorrectable problem. Could Microsoft work on this issue ASAP as it is forcing me to use other email addresses and doesn't allow me to continue to work form home....

View 2 Replies View Relatedrecently any files i either a) delete/move in bulk while holding the CTRL button or b) entire folders i delete, have been reappearing when my computer restarts after shutdown. the deletion shows up in my recycle bin or the destination i moved it to, but it's like another copy appears in its place. these have so far been .mp3 or .jpg files (i haven't tried it on any other kind). i've emptied the recycle bin and they still appear. what could be causing this?

When I right clicked on these items that had been deleled...I got the message, The item cannot be found.....make sure the Folder exists....check that the path is correct.....Or similar words. I would expect to see the message appear appear because the items don't exist.....but why did the search display them? Is there a way to clean emove them so they don't show up on future Searches?

I cant deleted some invalid paths and shortcuts in the system....
Here when I open any application and try to insert or open a file for that application, I am facing the problem.
For Example,
In VLC Player, I click on Media --> Open File
This gives you the Box to select the file you want and in the bottom of that small window in the " File name " box, you will be having a drop down box to select the file.
Here all the deleted files are listed with the file name and path, which was deleted months ago...
When you select the file it says, "Path does not exist, try again"
So, I think all the invalid shortcuts are stored some where in the system, which displays there.
So we need to deleted that particular cache.
I found out that there is something called " Indexed Cache " in Vista, which saves all the shortcuts as the files are stored.
I need to find out how to delete the file shortcuts from that location.
Similiar issue is there in Outlook 2007, when I compose a new message and insert file.
It gives the drop down box like the above issue with all the deleted files path.
I tried rebuilding the Indexing Options as advised before.
It didnt work.
I performed all the basic steps, like deleting cookies,temp files from system,ran chkdsk,disk cleanup, and also used some popular and unpopular cleaning software and nothing worked.
Only couple of months I have been using Windows Vista, In the last two days some files with file extensions xlsx, wav and mp3 have been deleted without any hint. I did not deleted these files. I am at a loss why this has happened.

It started this morning when I logged in and everything off of my
desktop was gone. All of the files and everything. I don't know what
happened, I didn't delete the account or make a new one or anything.
All I know is that my brother, he was stupidly going through my
files from his user account (through Computer/Users), since he was made an admin, and he was deleting some files off of my user account. I'm not sure what it was but it must have been something he deleted that messed up everything! I still see some of the items in my garbage can of stuff that might have been deleted by the moron. The
other user accounts are fine, its just mine that is missing everything
and acting like its a brand new account.
I don't know what he deleted but I know he didn't do a complete wipeout of my account.I
still have a feeling that my files are somewhere because the hard drive
is still the same size.
In [Computer>C:>Users] there's a file for an old Windows user name that we no longer use that's taking up over 1/2 gig. I have deleted this name already through User Accounts in the Control Panel, but the file still remains on the hard-drive. Windows doesn't allow me to delete it for some reason
View 6 Replies View RelatedAs you can see, there are two "Pictures" folders, and two "Music" folders. They do not contain the same contents; only one Pictures folder contains all my pictures and only one Music folder contains all my music. The "new" Music folder contains the "Sample Music" folder, and the "new Pictures folder contains all of what is in my original Pictures folder, in addition to same strange things which are shown in screen shot 2. These folders are not deletable, and probably related to the ntuser.dat.LOG2 file you can see at the bottom of the user folder. I think this is probably the cause of something going wrong in the registry, which I haven't a clue of how to edit.
Upon opening the new Pictures folder, this is shown (unrelated folders/files are blurred):
For some reason, the same default Music folder as well as an entirely new (third) Pictures folder is also present here.
If I open the third Pictures folder here, this is shown:
The new Music folders in all cases (except for the original in my user folder) only contain the default Sample Music folder, so I didn't post a screen shot of that.
Deleting any of these unneeded folders is impossible, as Vista will either prevent me from doing so or just creating a new one immediately after it is deleted.
