Center from my computer. I didn't think it as a big deal as I have several other anti-viruses installed, but I've come to a situation where I require windows firewall to be on. When I attempt to start windows security center, I get the error "The Security Service cannot be started" .Now according to several other hundred threads, I'm supposed to go to "Services" and change "Security Center" to automatic.The only problem is, Security Center is not under Services as thetrojan removed it.
To make matters worse, HP programmers thought it would be cool to not include a vista OS installation disk, but instead add a crappy program on the computer that would allow you to replace programs, but unfortunately it cannot repair my security center.
I have DL a trogen and it seems to affected my browsers. My email works as well as quicken and Limewire as well as other update programs, but both of my browsers say they cannot display any webpages. Also, my security service center cannot be started.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis morning I synchronized my Vista 32 Business SP1 laptop with my XP Home SP3 desktop. After finishing some work on the XP desktop I want to re-synchronize data for tomorrow's presentation with the Vista laptop and all I get is an error message with a message that my Server Service is not started. I have no idea why Microsoft thinks that every home user has their own personal network administrator, but anyway, I don't.
So I checked in Services.msc and, yes, Server Services are running. Just to check I paused and resumed, without any change. A ping was good (6 ms) and net view sees all connected machines. I go to the XP desktop and download some files from the laptop without problems. I try accessing the desktop from the Vista laptop and have no connection whatsoever.
This started with Windows update, it wouldn't even download, just gave me an error. I tried Safe Mode and no good, then back to normal mode and it worked! I was happy. Sp2 started installing and got through stages 1 and 2 then rebooted, got through stage 3 up to 100%, paused for a few minutes then said the service pack failed to install and it started undoing everything. I've tried this a number of times over the past year since it was released and it has always failed. Just for disclosure's sake, I have OSX installed on another partition, but that was installed in June when the SP2 trouble started back in January, so it shouldn't be related.

The User Profile Service service failed the login.
User profile cannot be loaded.
Just before the problem happened I was working to remove the Anti Virus Live virus from my laptop via the techsupportforum.com forum.
Two things I did within the hour of the problem happening are:
1. I ran the malware removal program OTL

2. I cleared and set system restore's cash-

Further details-I can and am able to login to Safe Mode I do not have a program called System Restore in the System Tools folder In Safe Mode I was able to change my password, but in normal mode I get the same error message I did windows updates and then tried to remove some of those updates, with only a few files that wouldn't allow me to delete them. Thank you for visiting my thread. If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix my problem it would be great to hear about them.
Also my Windows Search service does not start. When I try to start it, I get these errors in the event log:
1. "The Windows Search Service cannot open the Jet property store.
The content index server cannot update or access information because of a database error. Stop and restart the search service. If the problem persists, reset and recrawl the content index. In some cases it may be necessary to delete and recreate the content index. (0x8004117f)"
2. "The Windows Search Service has failed to created the new system catalog. Internal error <4,0x8004117f>."
I'm totally lost as how to solve this problem. I spent hours on the web trying to find a solution, with no luck sofar. Anyone here who has a clue how to solve this one?
currently i have been trying to backup my computer using complete backup on my windows vista ultimate but every time i try when i click the button it says
(X) The backup application could not start due to an internal Error:
The specified service does not exist as an installed service. (0x80070424)
Please check your system configuration and try again.
I use Vista Ultimate 64.
For the past few weeks I've been having an issue with an Apple made service called "Bonjour Service". That service is used in several pieces of software including iTunes (which I do not use) but also some Adobe applications (Version Cue for example) and the font management utility I use which is Extensis Suitcase 11.0.1 for Windows.
Both Version Cue and Suitcase depend on the Bonjour Service to work and I have had no issues with it for months but recently, the Bonjour Service stopped working and would not start anymore. It now gives this error message when trying to start it:
"('Bonjour Service' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
My user account is an admin account so privileges is not an issue. I had made no changes to my system myself before the Bonjour service began to "refuse" starting but I remember that I installed a few Windows updates a couple days prior. My machine is always on and I don't re-boot everyday.
So I was wondering if anyone has heard of the issue and knows how I might fix it or if anyone can give me pointers on how I my start trouble shooting this and find what started preventing the Bonjour Service from starting. FWIW, the Windows Firewall is already off and turning off my anti-virus doesn't help (Eset NOD32).
I have forgotten the Username and Password for the Login ID... and it is not the default (Username: *blank* Password: admin). I have heard you can hold the reset button on the back of the wireless router but will this reset my wireless network? By that i mean... will i be able to connect with my laptop still through that wireless network or will i have to set it up again?

View 7 Replies View Relateda friend has a new sony vaio with vista home premium installed. For some reason it will not connect to my netgear router wirelessly. I have tried everything. I am however not too hot on Vista as this is my first time with it. The adaptor says its on, but when you interegate it and ask why it wont connect it keeps telling me "switch on wireless adaptor capability". In the network connections it is on, the switch on the front right is swiitched on and the wireless network light on the front is on. The network is fine and working as i have my laptop connected to it. All security is present and entered. It seems to be the computer as it doesnt find any networks when there are loads in the area. Am i missing something exceptionally obvious? Does Vista have another "on" switch for this adaptor?

The failure happens at the instant the filepicker is taken into a subdirectory, but is unpredictable and not reproducible in a given subdirectory. It happens with various applications (browsers, editors), and leaves no message in the systems logs. I'm at a bit of a loss to know where to look. AFAIK, this started after installing SP1.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought this laptop in February 2008 and I have had problems with the windows minimizing and maximizing from the beginning. They seem to have a mind of their own. I will be typing along or browsing and all of a suddent the window will minimize. I can reopen it and click back on the page and it will minimize again. It is getting worse. I bought two of these the same day and one belongs to me and the other one is my daughters, however, hers was not doing this until recently. She says it has started doing it. Is anyone else having this problem? Is it Vista or the computer itself? I am really ready to get this thing fixed! Get more and more frequent and aggravating!

Originally started off as a problem with Microsoft Office not working properly and telling me it had not been installed for the current user. After about an hour and a half on the phone with Microsoft Support and a Remote assistance from a microsoft technician later... I find out that UAC is causing all the problems. View 9 Replies View Relatedmy computer started lagging and freezing on me to the point that i had to shut it off by holding the power button eventualy i got it running agin and an hour or two later it started lagging and freezeing again. I tryed to boot in safe mode (and i know it was a bad idea) it seemed like it forze agoin while loading the drivers and i had to manualy shut it off again now when ever it starts up all ican do is start windows normaly or lanuch startup repair. now i've tried both, when i try and start normaly a blue screen appeares too fast for me to read something about unable to move something and if i try launch startup repair all i get is a black screen and a mouse and im starting to panic a little bit

All of a sudden, it started printing a blank page in addition to every page I send to print from my Notebook. The PC prints just fine. I am stumped as Vista says it has the latest printer driver installed and so does the XP. Firewall are from PCcillin and Mcfee. I have allowed those additional ports as referenced in another post, but no change.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had Netmeter installed to show network activity. I like to see if I'm downloading or if I'm just sitting waiting for nothing. Then when on vacation in June/July, Netmeter on Vista suddenly started displaying an incredibly long list of "network adapters" with the weirdest names and descriptions, while at the same time saying it couldn't find any active adapter. This after it worked for a long time (years?) on XP and then on Vista since December when I got a new laptop. In frustration I downloaded the Netmeter beta. This alleviated the problem and I could see network activity again. Unfortunately, the beta was simply an .exe file, not an install through Windows installer.
Now, after a few weeks, when I start up, I get a message that Netmeter has stopped working and that Vista has reported the problem to MS (asif that will do anything!). Unfortunately, I can't get it to not start up, since the option to start at boot-up is set in the program and since the program won't start ... you get my drift? How can I safely tell Vista to not attempt to start Netmeter at start-up?
I have a big problem with my laptop as when the windows is started up and a speicial icon appeared on the taskbar, the windows is converted to a dummy otherwise its seems good. I have a printed screen for that icon, but i don't know how to post it! at the last time i have installed a 3 antiviruse programs but no result, but some times during the scaning the sysytem was stoped and a blue window (with error message talking about new hardware or software not compatible).

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo last night my bat-out-of-hell cat jumped on my table and knocked over a glass of red wine. Most of the wine went under my laptop but some amount splashed onto the keyboard and screen. At first, my computer showed no signs of a problem and I have never spilled on a computer ever so I didnt know what to do. About an hour later my screen started flickering on and off (from black to the screen image) it started with just a flicker or two in a couple of minutes to every other second or more. I turned the computer off and took a blow dryer to it for under an hour and then let it dry overnight. In the morning, I turned the computer on and it booted without issue except that the screen resolution changed (as it often does after booting with the screen closed or open) and then the flickering started again. I turned it off and blow dried it again for some time and I will leave it off for at least a week but any ideas/suggestions for what I should do next. Does it seem like something is already fried and I need to contact the manufacturer for a fix? Is there anything else I should do?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't know all that much about computers, so if I leave out any necessary information, please let me know and I'll try to provide it. It started today when I got a virus. I have no idea what the virus was, but I know that by the time I had gotten to it, it all but destroyed my computer. I could not get into any system applications to get rid of the virus, including my antivirus software, or system restore. A friend told me to go to safe mode and use system restore from there, so I did that. I restored my system to an earlier date, when the virus couldn't possibly have been there.
However, when I attempted to restart my computer after the system restore, a message came up that said "BOOTMGR is compressed. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". I pressed this several times, but I keep coming up with the same message. I saw other threads with the same basic problem, and the advice was to reinstall windows through the cd. However, my laptop is a very cheap model and does not have a cd drive, so this is not an option.
