I use Vista on my network notebook and XP on my PC. I have a HP 6L printer hooked up to the PC. All of a sudden, it started printing a blank page in addition to every page I send to print from my Notebook. The PC prints just fine. I am stumped as Vista says it has the latest printer driver installed and so does the XP. Firewall are from PCcillin and Mcfee. I have allowed those additional ports as referenced in another post, but no change.

When attempting to print/save a web page as a PDF in Vista, a dialog pops up; "For your computer???s security, the file was saved to the Temporary Internet File Folder.? Do you want to open this folder?, Yes or No". When clicking ?Yes? you are taken to a folder named ?Virtualized?, which contains no files. Also the PDF printer dialog box shows "Error - Printing" and the PDF printer refuses to print. PDF files can be saved from other programs with no problems. The web page can also be printed to local or network printers. We are not using Zone Alarm

My printer is printing out half of the one page. It stops prinhting in the middle of a page and goes to the next page. It stops printing after only finishing the top half of a sentence. I got it to work once. I'm also having an issue with my mouse and keyboard. The mouse will sometimes click a second time and the keyboard will get stuck on the last key for like 3 seconds.

When I open Control Panel and go to Network and Sharing, the page is blank and all connections are missing. If I open Network icon the page is blank

The Network List Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. This occurred after Microsoft technical support took control of my computer and downloaded a .bat file of .dll's to repair I.E. v8 problems. I do not know if this had anything to do with it.
I have a Advent laptop which recently decided not to load Windows Vista, when i tried to launch from the error recovery page it wouldnt start andjust gave me a blank screen. It also didnt work using a the windows Vista download from neosmart. and gave me the same blank screen when loading from the multi-boot screen.
I then downloaded a program called 'KillDisk' and i asked it to wipe out my Vista from my computer, whichit done succesfully, i decided to try my Windows Vista recovery disc and this time it did load the installation page, i put in my product key before it said there was something wrong (Cant remember exactly) i then tried to restore it using the repair computer options on the installation page before itthen said what was wrong with my laptop, 'Boot sector for system disk partition is corrupt' How can i sort this out!?!
It has been a long time since I checked my WEI and I decided to check it today. I was greeted with the first attachment ("Capture1"). Then I clicked on the WEI to check how each of my components rated. It was blank!! (see "Capture2"). Has anyone any idea how this happened? Or how to fix it?

This operation used to work OK with XP & OE however using Vista & Windows Mail it only pops up a message stating that the program is not associated. Clicking on an email address in a web page using IE8 works fine, it opens up a Windows Mail reply page.
I have got a nasty bug on my vista laptop. I have tried just about everything to clean it up but with no luck. When the bug hits, it turns off the shell extension on AVG, disables all the shortcuts on my desktop. ( Turns the icons to a blank page as well as not letting them execute) When I click on the start menu all the "most used" programs are gone. It also disable the shut down option arrow from the start menu. I have avast, AVG, SypBot, SuperAntiSpyware, Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and Hijackthis all have found problems but have not fixed the major issue.
View 9 Replies View Relatedmy os is vista home premium. my isp is verizon and i connect thru an actiontech wireless modem/router. the majority of sites i try to visit with any browser time out. no error message. just a blank page and a swirling load icon that animates indefinitely. i have no problem pinging any address on dos prompt though and most non-browser progs that use the net function perfectly; curiously, i can't sign onto msn messenger but i can sign on to aim and yahoo messenger.
some sites i have no trouble accessing: google, cnn, Internet, ytmnd (homepage only), yahoo (homepage only), and fortunately, this forum. there seems to be no rhyme nor reason why a select few pages are favored.......
When I open hotmail from windows live messenger, the page opens from an already open internet explorer web page + a new one with a message saying that the email address or password is incorrect. Does it happen to anyone else here?

I insert a blank cd and it auto loads, then it asks to format before continueing, i click yes, it formats then right at the end it says unable to finish formatting and opens the cd. I then try to burn onto it and the cd stays blank.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to burn an audio CD on my computer (i've only had this computer for a few months and this is the first time I've tried burning any kind of disc), and when I put the CD in and hit burn it says that my cd is not blank, I tried a handful of blank cds and it spit them all back out at me saying it's not blank. Just to make sure, I opened my computer and looked at the disc there and it WAS blank, so I don't know what to do.

Center from my computer. I didn't think it as a big deal as I have several other anti-viruses installed, but I've come to a situation where I require windows firewall to be on. When I attempt to start windows security center, I get the error "The Security Service cannot be started" .Now according to several other hundred threads, I'm supposed to go to "Services" and change "Security Center" to automatic.The only problem is, Security Center is not under Services as thetrojan removed it.
To make matters worse, HP programmers thought it would be cool to not include a vista OS installation disk, but instead add a crappy program on the computer that would allow you to replace programs, but unfortunately it cannot repair my security center.

The failure happens at the instant the filepicker is taken into a subdirectory, but is unpredictable and not reproducible in a given subdirectory. It happens with various applications (browsers, editors), and leaves no message in the systems logs. I'm at a bit of a loss to know where to look. AFAIK, this started after installing SP1.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought this laptop in February 2008 and I have had problems with the windows minimizing and maximizing from the beginning. They seem to have a mind of their own. I will be typing along or browsing and all of a suddent the window will minimize. I can reopen it and click back on the page and it will minimize again. It is getting worse. I bought two of these the same day and one belongs to me and the other one is my daughters, however, hers was not doing this until recently. She says it has started doing it. Is anyone else having this problem? Is it Vista or the computer itself? I am really ready to get this thing fixed! Get more and more frequent and aggravating!

View 9 Replies View Relatedmy computer started lagging and freezing on me to the point that i had to shut it off by holding the power button eventualy i got it running agin and an hour or two later it started lagging and freezeing again. I tryed to boot in safe mode (and i know it was a bad idea) it seemed like it forze agoin while loading the drivers and i had to manualy shut it off again now when ever it starts up all ican do is start windows normaly or lanuch startup repair. now i've tried both, when i try and start normaly a blue screen appeares too fast for me to read something about unable to move something and if i try launch startup repair all i get is a black screen and a mouse and im starting to panic a little bit

View 7 Replies View RelatedI had Netmeter installed to show network activity. I like to see if I'm downloading or if I'm just sitting waiting for nothing. Then when on vacation in June/July, Netmeter on Vista suddenly started displaying an incredibly long list of "network adapters" with the weirdest names and descriptions, while at the same time saying it couldn't find any active adapter. This after it worked for a long time (years?) on XP and then on Vista since December when I got a new laptop. In frustration I downloaded the Netmeter beta. This alleviated the problem and I could see network activity again. Unfortunately, the beta was simply an .exe file, not an install through Windows installer.
Now, after a few weeks, when I start up, I get a message that Netmeter has stopped working and that Vista has reported the problem to MS (asif that will do anything!). Unfortunately, I can't get it to not start up, since the option to start at boot-up is set in the program and since the program won't start ... you get my drift? How can I safely tell Vista to not attempt to start Netmeter at start-up?
