When I open Control Panel and go to Network and Sharing, the page is blank and all connections are missing. If I open Network icon the page is blank

The Network List Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. This occurred after Microsoft technical support took control of my computer and downloaded a .bat file of .dll's to repair I.E. v8 problems. I do not know if this had anything to do with it.
I have a cable wireless internet connection at home, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But when it doesn't work and I try to see what's happening with the internet, I go to Network and Sharing and the page freezes. I tried to follow the following steps, but it seems in Systems Tool, I don't get given the Local users.
When I click on the "email" option in Windows Photo Gallery I'm given the "size" option, I click on "attach" and then I'm sent to a blank page whose tab reads, http://compose...cldefstat=Def1. I am not directed to an email address box.
yesterday I received several attachments in Windows mail and was able to open them and print out the attached .doc which was written in a microsoft word program. Today.....when I try to open the same documentattachments it is a BLANK page.

I use Vista on my network notebook and XP on my PC. I have a HP 6L printer hooked up to the PC. All of a sudden, it started printing a blank page in addition to every page I send to print from my Notebook. The PC prints just fine. I am stumped as Vista says it has the latest printer driver installed and so does the XP. Firewall are from PCcillin and Mcfee. I have allowed those additional ports as referenced in another post, but no change.
I have a Advent laptop which recently decided not to load Windows Vista, when i tried to launch from the error recovery page it wouldnt start andjust gave me a blank screen. It also didnt work using a the windows Vista download from neosmart. and gave me the same blank screen when loading from the multi-boot screen.
I then downloaded a program called 'KillDisk' and i asked it to wipe out my Vista from my computer, whichit done succesfully, i decided to try my Windows Vista recovery disc and this time it did load the installation page, i put in my product key before it said there was something wrong (Cant remember exactly) i then tried to restore it using the repair computer options on the installation page before itthen said what was wrong with my laptop, 'Boot sector for system disk partition is corrupt' How can i sort this out!?!
It has been a long time since I checked my WEI and I decided to check it today. I was greeted with the first attachment ("Capture1"). Then I clicked on the WEI to check how each of my components rated. It was blank!! (see "Capture2"). Has anyone any idea how this happened? Or how to fix it?
When reading an email using Windows Mail,if the text in the body of that email contains an email address,is it possible to double click on that address and have Windows Mail open automatically with a blank reply page?
This operation used to work OK with XP & OE however using Vista & Windows Mail it only pops up a message stating that the program is not associated. Clicking on an email address in a web page using IE8 works fine, it opens up a Windows Mail reply page.
I have got a nasty bug on my vista laptop. I have tried just about everything to clean it up but with no luck. When the bug hits, it turns off the shell extension on AVG, disables all the shortcuts on my desktop. ( Turns the icons to a blank page as well as not letting them execute) When I click on the start menu all the "most used" programs are gone. It also disable the shut down option arrow from the start menu. I have avast, AVG, SypBot, SuperAntiSpyware, Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and Hijackthis all have found problems but have not fixed the major issue.
my os is vista home premium. my isp is verizon and i connect thru an actiontech wireless modem/router. the majority of sites i try to visit with any browser time out. no error message. just a blank page and a swirling load icon that animates indefinitely. i have no problem pinging any address on dos prompt though and most non-browser progs that use the net function perfectly; curiously, i can't sign onto msn messenger but i can sign on to aim and yahoo messenger.
some sites i have no trouble accessing: google, cnn, Internet, ytmnd (homepage only), yahoo (homepage only), and fortunately, this forum. there seems to be no rhyme nor reason why a select few pages are favored.......
I have Vista x64 and I have read threads on this for weeks and can't fix it. I have file sharing/network discovery on, private network, password protection disabled, my shares set to everyone and everyone is on the same workgroup. My problem is that the x64 Vista computer will not see any of the XP (x86 or x64) computers and they can't see it from the Network Neighbourhood. However, if I type the IP address of the XP computers I can access them. On the XP computers if I type the IP address I get an error that it isn't accessable and I might not have permission. However, if I type \192.168.0.100share or any of the other share names I access it just fine. pinging works too by IP but not by name. If I boot into the x86 install of have of Vista I can access XP computers from Vista and the Vista from XP by name and everything without typing any user names. The only differince between the two aside from x64 and x86 is that x86 isn't patched past SP1 as I don't use it often. Lastly after installing that XP patch I can see the x86 XP computers by name from the network map feature on Vista, still can't access them by name though...
I'm trying to network my new Optiplex 740 with Vista Business (32bit), and Norton 360, to my old Euro PC with W2K Pro. and SystemWorks, using basic Belkin /Realtek cards and yellow ethernet cable. My broadband connection is through my old machine and works perfectly, as does the network card installation.
My new machine also indicates that its card is correctly installed and functioning correctly. BUT the Network and Sharing Center window shows this computer as linked to an Unidentified network and no connection to either the other computer or broadband connection.........
I have a home network with 2 desktops connected. 1 running XP Pro the other running Vista Ultimate. I am trying to set up file and printer sharing, but the Vista machine can not see the XP one, or the network printer. The printer is connected to the XP machine. The network groups are the same, but I can not see the pc or the printer.
I cannot seem to figure out with my network sharing. I have a wireless network with 2 laptops running Vista home premium and 1 xp-pro laptop all behind a linksys router. At this point I have all computer seeing and sharing (only from public folders) fine. I want to be able to share one of the partitons that I created on one of the Vista laptops(home premuim) as a share for backup, but other Vista laptop won't let me have access to it. It does however let me have access to the public sharing folder though. How can I access this Drive/partition?
Network discovery is on, file sharing is on, printer sharing is on, password protection is on, all computers have same corresponding usernames and passwords, properties of the particular partition in question is configured to share. All computers have the same workgroup name. What I am trying to do, in a nutshell, is to be able to use that one partition for backup images for all 3 computers(has a very large drive on that specific laptop) So I even though about maybe mapping that it into the public sharing folder, a workaround, if you will, but I'm not sure if it would give me the available premissions to be able to do what I need it for.
i have all m network sharing turned on, I have followed a bunch of online tutorials. I still cannot share or recieve files on my vista computer. It works fine for my XP computer, just type in the path and its done. Not so with the Vista machine.
thats wat my problem is but I'm able to go online just its acting weird and also the network status thing has a red x instead of being filled in with blue
My main computer that has the printer installed is vista 64bit. The other computers around the house are XP pro 32bit. I can see the printer but when I try to print it says it does not the driver. I go to install additional drivers but it won't let it happen. I have a canon MP780 AIO printer. Can anyone tell me what needs to be done? I have googled but not found my answer.
I've searched online and know this problem exists for others, but couldn't find a solution. When I click on network and sharing it either doesn't open, or opens with a blank window then freezes. Anyone have a solution? If it matters, my eventual goal is to enable file sharing so that I can begin the process of transferring my files to a mac. So if there is an alternate way to enable this, plz let me know.
Have Vista Ultimate on 1 machine and XP Pro on the other. Was able to share files from XP to Vista but not, after all the trying, the other way. About a month ago I becan me unable to share either way. Can see each computer from either one. Have been reading various comments from poeple like me who are in the same boat. Have not had a clear indication on what to do. It seems to me that if Microsoft wants to push Vista then they have to catter to us relatively DUMB ones who are going to buy Vista.
Most poeple want to share their misic etc on their network and with the present layout that is not going to happen. It is alright if you are an IT Tech or System Administrator who has trained for this but the average person is not. Maybe all you Brains could come up with a Wizard to help us Dumb poeple out. Have had Vista from the beginning and have never had control of sharing .
I am running Vista Ultimate - my computer is directly networked to the main computer and is set up for printer - file - etc sharing. Attached to the main computer is a Lexmark X5470 multi purpose printer. From my machine I can print with no problem at all , but I cannot get the scanner to operate!. In my network sharing centre - the printers are shown as X 5470 as a printer and also a seperate X 5470 as a Fax.
I have a laptop with Vista Home Premium & built in wired and wireless networking. The wireless is detected and seems to work fine, but when I go to Control Panel>Network & Sharing, the screen opens, but none of the links are ever clickable. and the screen will not respond to the minimize (-) or close (X) buttons. I am logged in to an account with admin rights, and never get a prompt asking for elevation when the network & sharing screen opens.
When I try to print (Laptop with Vista) to the Network (XP machine) Plotter, I receive this message " Windows cannot connect to the printer. The printer driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks NT 4.0 drivers". I realize this is an old plotter, however the driver installs and works fine in the XP enviroment. Is there any way I can remove this policy?
ave had a this acer lap top for 2 months.. using charter cable for internet access.. ethernet cable cannection.. 3 weeks ago stopped being able to to connect to the internet... charter says it is the computer.. i am able to user the wireless connection fine.. have taken the laptop to the electronics store and it connects to their lan good and surfs.. but at home it will not get a valid ip addresss. per the cable company, the problem is the computer.. also when connected i am not able to select private network in network and sharing..
I am running Vista Business x32 on my laptop & last night everything on my laptop was working fine, and then this morning my wife says she cannot connect to the internet. I go and search for connections, 5 found including my router > hit connect and get a pop up cannot connect,> Diagnose > but still no luck (problem still exists).
So I open up the Network & Sharing Center only to find that it is blank. No network location (public/private), no sharing options, nothing. I noticed that there was an update last night so I system restored back to Monday, but still same problem. I am stumped. Attached is an image of my Network & Sharing Center. my 2 other desktops are connecting fine (a Vista and a Win7).
Just recently I turned on my laptop that runs Windows Vista Home premium and it won't identify the network. I haven't changed any of the settings on my laptop and it just started doing this. It will connect to my wireless network, but it says the Access is Local Only. There is a strong signal and everything and my roommate that has the exact same computer has no problem connecting and getting online.
Whenever I access the Network and Sharing Center and click on the red X to find out what the problem is, a window pops up and says "There might be a problem with one or more network adapters on this computer. It gives me 3 options for repair: Restart the DHCP client service. Plug a cable into the network adapter "Local Area Connection". Automatically get new IP settings for the network adapter "Wireless Network Connection" I have tried all three of these and none of them work.
This is a question about both xp and vista to a lesser extent. I can't find the proper english group for xp netowrking in the newsgroup list so I am posting here. I have 6 workstaions. a mix of xp and vista. I am hoping that I can configure the vista machines in the same way I am doing xp. This is a workgroup environment not a AD. Let us say the 6 workstations are
1) alice (xp) 2) john (xp).....
Lets look at alice. What I have done is to create 5 user accounts (limited) on alice called john, mary, jack, roger and morgan. I have set their password all to network. ****QUESTION****: In order to share a folder(s) to these other 5 workstaions do I have to manually set up each user on the alice machine or is there a way to see these users of the other machines listed in the share permissons and just select them without having to set up physical accounts for them on the alice machine....
I posted this in general, but it does not appear there so I am posting it here too. I have a desktop PC with VISTA and a laptop with VISTA. The DT is connected to a router via a cable. The laptop is connected to the router via wireless. I have set all permissions that I can find and share wherever I can find. I can't access files on either PC from either PC. I get the message "Windows can not access \Lu-PCC" or what ever folder I try to access. I can get into the folder alled "public", but my files are not in that folder on either PC. I'm running a visa 32 bit laptop and a Windows xp PC on a network and im trying to send files from the laptop to the PC. My laptop is unable to connect to the internet and I think the problem is that I have a virus so I'm just going to reformat the whole thing. I want to send my laptop files to my PC, but when I go to the network and sharing center on the laptop to turn public folder sharing on, the whole window just freezes when I apply the setting. The workgroup names are the same. Is there anything else that I have to do to be able to share the files?
my computer doesnt have a wireless network card. It accesses the internet as it is connected to the wireless router with a yellow Ethernet cable. My laptop accesses the internet wirelesses. since my computer is connected to the wireless router, i thought it would be possible to set up a wireless home network to allow files sharing as well as accessing peripherals
on the laptop i went to Start>network>network & sharing center> set up a connection or network>set up a wireless router or access point, click next>click next> message says "Windows detected network hardware but cannot configure it automatically" i clicked the first option> logged on>but all settings were ok nothing wrong
i started everything again then chose the second option> i inserted the USB into the computer but i got a message saying i dont have the wireless network card/software on the computer . why does this matter since its connected to the wireless router

2)Can i have a really simple set by step guide on how to set this up in Windows Vista Home Premium
