Service Pack2 Failed To Install And It Started Undoing Everything

Dec 2, 2009

This started with Windows update, it wouldn't even download, just gave me an error. I tried Safe Mode and no good, then back to normal mode and it worked! I was happy. Sp2 started installing and got through stages 1 and 2 then rebooted, got through stage 3 up to 100%, paused for a few minutes then said the service pack failed to install and it started undoing everything. I've tried this a number of times over the past year since it was released and it has always failed. Just for disclosure's sake, I have OSX installed on another partition, but that was installed in June when the SP2 trouble started back in January, so it shouldn't be related.

The Security Service Cannot Be Started

Oct 2, 2009

I am running Vista x64 Several months ago I got a nasty trojan which removed the Security
Center from my computer. I didn't think it as a big deal as I have several other anti-viruses installed, but I've come to a situation where I require windows firewall to be on. When I attempt to start windows security center, I get the error "The Security Service cannot be started" .Now according to several other hundred threads, I'm supposed to go to "Services" and change "Security Center" to automatic. The only problem is, Security Center is not under Services as thetrojan removed it.

To make matters worse, HP programmers thought it would be cool to not include a vista OS installation disk, but instead add a crappy program on the computer that would allow you to replace programs, but unfortunately it cannot repair my security center.

Re-synchronize Data Server Service Is Not Started

Sep 23, 2008

This morning I synchronized my Vista 32 Business SP1 laptop with my XP Home SP3 desktop. After finishing some work on the XP desktop I want to re-synchronize data for tomorrow's presentation with the Vista laptop and all I get is an error message with a message that my Server Service is not started. I have no idea why Microsoft thinks that every home user has their own personal network administrator, but anyway, I don't.

So I checked in Services.msc and, yes, Server Services are running. Just to check I paused and resumed, without any change. A ping was good (6 ms) and net view sees all connected machines. I go to the XP desktop and download some files from the laptop without problems. I try accessing the desktop from the Vista laptop and have no connection whatsoever.

The User Profile Service Service Failed The Login

Jan 24, 2010

I have the following error message when trying to login to vista on my laptop:

The User Profile Service service failed the login.

User profile cannot be loaded.

Just before the problem happened I was working to remove the Anti Virus Live virus from my laptop via the techsupportforum.com forum.

Two things I did within the hour of the problem happening are:

1. I ran the malware removal program OTL

See step 5 at (http://tinyurl.com/pr92qn)

2. I cleared and set system restore's cash-

as instructed in post#23 on my techsupportforum.com thread

(Anti Virus Live on my Laptop - Page 2 - Tech Support Forum)

Further details-I can and am able to login to Safe Mode I do not have a program called System Restore in the System Tools folder In Safe Mode I was able to change my password, but in normal mode I get the same error message I did windows updates and then tried to remove some of those updates, with only a few files that wouldn't allow me to delete them. Thank you for visiting my thread. If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix my problem it would be great to hear about them.

Updates To Install: Desktop Started To Load And Froze There

Dec 28, 2008

About six weeks ago I had an issue with my computer that seems to be related to an update downloaded at that time. I had Automatic Update set to download and install updates automatically and after one such update, the computer instructed me to restart which I did. All went well until I logged in. The log in screen came up, I logged in and hit enter and the desktop started to load...and froze there. I restarted in safe mode and system restore failed. I called Dell and they walked me through diagnostics until they were fairly sure that it was not a hardware problem. I finally got it to reboot from the Windows disk that came with the computer, but the problem persisted. No error message, no lights, no beeps. Just frozen at the same place at the same time. In addition, each time I had to hold the power button down to reboot, my RAID array would have to 're-verify' the data on both disks which would take about 4 hours before I could even think of doing anything with the box.

Finally Dell had me restore the system from a partition on my hard drive which reset the computer to how it was from the factory... It worked fine till I downloaded the updates again. The last bunch included a Vista security update and a bunch of Office updates. I had to Factory Image reinstall again. I have now shut off my Auto Update. It tells me that there are updates to download, but I have not done any of them in the last month........

Undoing Virus Damage

Mar 14, 2010

About a week ago I had the "Vista Antivirus 2010" virus on my computer. I was able to get rid of it pretty quickly with AVG, but since then I have been having an annoying (but not debilitating) problem. The Vista Antivirus 2010 appears on your computer pretending to be a new program downloaded through vista updates, and lets you know that you have viruses on your computer. Its main purpose is a financial scam: to remove the viruses you need to pay for the "full version" of the program. To stop you from being able to remove it easily, it makes it so that whenever you open an .exe program on your computer it will open instead, and then determins whether the program is a threat or not. For example, I was able to run Firefox, but I had to trick it to let me run AVG.

However, now that it is gone, I am still having trouble running .exe files. When I attempt to run one, it prompts me to select the program that I want to use to open the file, which is not possible since that is the program that should open it (does that make sense?). I have had to redo all of my shortcuts, and still need to "run as administrator" and then give the program permission to run each time. I know that this is a long explanation

Windows Service Installer Failed

Apr 15, 2010

So you guys know that Antivirus Suite? Well a couple of days ago I was like JESUS! How do I get it out of my computer? But then I got it resolved by the help of Malware Bytes. BUTTT, the next day, my older sibling thought it wasn't "trustworthy" so he decided to delete it. Now, the computer before it starts says it checks the __ drive ( I forgot) and then all my applications just stopped working. Like AIM malfunctioned, Itunes malfunctioned, the sound on my browser stopped working ( oh, Itunes notified saying that the audio configuration didn't work so yeah...), my browser thank god still works, and everything else.. Well it's infected with errors and blah blah blah.

-I checked out the Windows Service Installer and tried to repair it, but it failed.
-I can't download anything on certain browsers, but for all browsers, I can't save things like pictures.
-Yes, I tried F8? or F9 I forgot Dx to try to do a startup repair, but that failed. And I tried system restore, but for some reason it all got deleted, and I hope I don't have to F11 and restore it to it's factory settings haha...
-ANDDDD, I'm not breaking a limb for no Geeksquad haha, it's DTM (doing too much)!Lastly, I blame my sibling... >:0

User Profile Service Failed The Logon

Jan 5, 2010

I have had a Lenovo 3000 n100 laptop with what I think is Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit (does that sound right?) for a few years. Within the first year I had it my hard drive crashed, I managed to save it but I lost all my files. Today I tried to log onto my administrator account for the first time in a few weeks and I recieved the error "User Profile Service Failed the Logon". I searched for a solution and this is what I found..

Quote: 1. I closed down.

2. Turned computer on and immediately pressed F8 repeatedly until I got "Advanced Boot Options".

3. used the down arrow to select "Safe Mode" and pressed enter.

4. computer then opened eventually in the funny look of safe mode, with

a "Help" window.

5. In the help window there is an underlined "What is System Restore?" Clicking on that gave me the answer and "Click to open System Restore"

6. I clicked on that and a new window came up recommending restoring to a previous state before windows update which I had done before the fault occurred.............

We entered the KNOWN password (it's never been changed from new, approx 11 months) and we got ;- "User profile service failed the logon, user profile cannot be loaded", which slowed us down a bit :-) We took an option to "reset password - put disc in drive with password on" (or something similar), but he has never created such a disc. To repeat - the password entered 'was' correct.......

Windows Search 4 Update Profile Service Has Failed The Logon

Apr 2, 2009

A few days ago, Windows Update Automatic updates installed an update on my computer called:

Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista (KB940157)

When I restarted my computer after this update I tried to log on and got this message:

The user profile service has failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

I fixed this by booting into the F8 restore options on my Dell Laptop and used system restore to repair the problem

Today Windows Update Installed that same update again and the same problem arose which I again fixed with system restore.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this, like why should this update be causing my User Profile not to load?

User Profile Was Not Loaded Correctly, Service Failed The Logon

Sep 13, 2009

Ive been having endless problems with my vista. Firstly, I had the error message "Your user profile was not loaded correctly! You have been logged on with a temporary profile." for a good month or so, I was in the middle of exams and didn't want to risk trying to fix it myself, I was advised the best option would be just to reinstall vista, but I wasn't sure the best way to go about that either. Now on my laptops first birthday, I stopped getting this error message, and started enjoying usual computing again, until I started getting this message instead.

"The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded."

If I complete a system restore a few times I can access my account again, but after a day or so I start getting the error message again. All my old files (from before the error messages started appearing) are under my old user folder which I can access in users. I renamed it at some point during the time of the first error message. I thought that because of this I could delete my main account, and make my secondary account an administrator instead. (not sure if thats the right way to go about things, as the first option the thread for this error provided was not working) and now I cannot access my control panel, or windows updates, to tamper with user accounts.

SP1 Will Not Install And Install Failed With Error 80004005

Apr 25, 2008

I've tried numerous times to Install Vista Sp1, but without success. The install appers to go well, reaching 100% at stage 3, but then the screen reports the SP did not successfully install, and proceeds to roll back. On Checking the message in Windows Update, the install failed with error 80004005. I've raised the issue directly with MS, but the advice to install the SP in Safe mode has not helped. I've also trawled various forums and cannot find any reference to the specific error code.

I own a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ1. A number of forums seem to suggest it might be a hardware issue, and I have tried disabling / uninstalling various devices to
see if this helps, but this also has not got me any further. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what this error code means? Is there a way to force the SP to install despite this error code (it does get to 100% at stage 3 after all, so maybe it does install, but one of the packages check routines is picking up an error which doesn't really exist???)
