View 4 RepliesIf you change the name of your computer (under Control PanelSystem and MaintenanceSystem), then the scheduled task that Windows Calendar has will NOT be updated with the new name of the computer. The result is that this scheduled task does not run properly when it is supposed to, and when you open up the Task Scheduler, you get an error popping up in Task Scheduler:
"An error has ocurred for the task Reminders - {User Name}. Error message: The specified account name is not valid."
Where {User Name} is your user name.

I just got done messing around with overclocking a little, and I'm afraid I might have be heading into trouble. How hot is too hot for a cpu to be running? Right now I'm at about an average of 53C idle And the hottest I've gotten is 57C. I just did a quick 10-min stability test from my nvidia software, and the max/min temps are 66/53C, reported on the motherboard. CPUID actually measured core#0 at 43/63C and core#1 at 43/60C.

All my web browsers seem to freeze (no respond every so*__often_*) I have run the repair option from the Cd many times and it dose nothing, I managed to boot up tonight by first entermoboard *_moboard_* options and forcing it to boot up with latest working configuration, some times this dose not work.
I can not do a system restore as this update wiped all the restore points. One of my friends had her GFX die due to this updpce, My*__pc_* cost allot oandtryingnd*__trying_* to avoid this happening, as you have guessed i am novice at these things.
I read quite often about the possibility of "registry cleaners" messing things up on Vista. Is it recommended not to use a registry cleaner at all? Are there good/bad ones? My computer is almost brand new so I don't believe I have any problems. I used a registry cleaner on my old XP computer.....it found lots of problems.....fixed them and the machine ran better than ever!
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm having a spot of bother with Windbg. I've been messing with a game and found whenever I try to assemble any instruction containing 'xmm0' I would recieve an 'Bad opcode error' warning. I've even tried copying an existing instruction ie, movaps [ecx],xmm0 and still get the same warning. If there are any Windbg users on this board can you please tell me the correct way to write 'xmm0' or any of the 8 xmm registers, to work with Windbg.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a bat file that runs without errors on the command line. Uses robocopy to back up document drectory. The scheduler history states it started, action completed with an error code 16 (don't know what this means) and task successfully completed? But I do not think it is actually executing the bat file.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I open task scheduler a pop up says "an error has occurred for task MCVsurveyReminder4 Error message the specified name is not vailid.". It repeats 4 time when i click OK and is followed by 4 of "an error has occurred for task MCVregistrationReminder4 Error message the specified name is not vailid". And finally by "an error occurred for task reminders - username Error message the specified account name is not valid"
I think it is something to do with a task to register my vaio or take part in a survey but I cannot get rid. It is in task scheduler local and there is no delete. I found a similar situation on the vaio site but cannot find now.Found it http://club.vaio.sony.eu/clubvaio/gb...7&lastpage=yes
I've just got my new Alienware m17 and I can't find a way to disable the "Lid Open" event. I've disabled the lid from making the system go into stand-by, but the moment I open the lid, it wakes up again. I've tried using : Code: powercfg -devicedisablewake "ACPI Lid"
But all I get is "You do not have permission to enable or disable device wake", and yes... I am logged in as an Administrator.
All lid related articles on this site (and others) seem only to refer to problems with Closing the lid rather than Opening it. I know it's a minor issue, but I don't want to wake up my system until I press the power button. I've even checked the BIOS settings but there isn't even a Power section.
I am a new Vista (x64) user and when I woke up this morning this was going on. Can someone please help me resolve this issue, I rely on my computer to run my home business. When I bring it up in safe mode and ask for the prompt to find solutions, nothing happens.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista Ultimate x64 with SP1 and I'm having an issue with file sharing. If I try to copy files from an XP machine to the Vista machine, the System log on the Vista PC fills up with 2017 (The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the server reached the configured limit for nonpaged pool allocations) and 2021 and I get an error on the XP machine about there not being enough memory to fullfill the request. I have tried a couple of registry entries, like disabling SMB2 and setting MaxMpxCt to 255; neither of which have resolved the issue. I'm still able to browse the network from the Vista machine, so it looks like it's only incoming connections into the Vista machine that are the problem.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI already followed closely that tutorial Brink made, to boot on safe mode disable
WinMGMT, etc and it didn't work. I need Event Viewer to work so that Diskeeper works.
The following error i receive when trying to start the service by Services.MSC
Windows could not start the the Windows Event Log service on local Computer. Error 4201: The instance name passed was not recognized as valid by a WMI Data Provider. (The service is set to Automatic, tho)
Every three or four days I review my Event Log. The log for two days ago on my laptop (Vista Home Premium SP1) system has approximately 75,000 entries that are identical, all logged over a four-second period. The entry reads:
(Event 51)
An error was detected on device DeviceHarddisk2DR2 during a paging
operation.
According to MS, if this occurs on a primary drive (like "C" I'm guessing - they don't say, actually) the drive could be failing. They go on to say "Otherwise, no user action is required". The error cites "harddisk2" so unless MS has decided that drive numerations start a "2", I'm guessing this is something having to do with an external drive; possibly one of my USB drives. What is strange is that I haven't plugged in an any drives for five days or so.
Should I just mark this down as some sort of Vista glitch, as I am tempted to do? Or, is this just one more thing to worry about? I do know what paging operations are, and why they sometimes fail, but this particular set of entries puzzles me.
I've been struggling with this for a couple of days now without any success, I noticed the the event viewer would not start, it reported that "Event Service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running" Well, the service was not running and my attempts to start Windows Event log result in an "Error 5: Access is denied"
So to Google I go. I tried several things that I found there, taking ownership of files, resetting the whole system to default permissions by using a Microsoft
utility. That reset everything except one folder that it reported as an error. That was the EtRTeventLog folder, this seems to locked out completely. I renamed the folder using Unlocker and Windows recreated a new folder but I still have the same problem.
I have a sound trigger for the 'Open program' event in Vista Basic sp2 x32 When my computer is idle and I "here" a program open the only thing I have to go by is the time it occurred. If I want to go to Event Viewer in Administrative Tools and see what this event was that triggered the event sound I'm overwhelmed with a bunch of categories and sub-categories. In order to find what opened at the specific time I need to check each category and sub-category. That is a real pain in the ass. I find no search capabilities in Event Viewer unless I've missed it. Is there some way of making a hunt for a specific time easier in Event Viewer? Or, is there some 3rd party software with the capability to sort all events by data and time??

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've searched thoroughly for this but could not find an aswer to this problem I'm having on my laptop. I've had a BSOD twice now within the last month. After the first one, I had to do a complete re-install as system files were damaged. I thought it must've been some virus, but apparently it's not, as I've done a new install and it happened again. This time so far it's seems ok after the reboot though.
The funny thing is that the system running extremely well otherwise - there are no other problems, slowdowns, freezes, hangs, nothing like that. Here's what I was doing just before the BSOD: (on both occasions, the circumstances were EXACTLY the same!) -I was surfing the net with IE8
-other programs running in the background: utorrent, Total Commander, Notepad As I say, both times I was doing the same: reading some forum in IE8 with exactly the same apps running in the background and then suddenly bang!..........
You receive the message that your computer is infected and you can see the scan running behind the message box with the OK button? Is there a process to follow and a time frame before all the bad things take root? I have received the message a few times and did the following with what appears to be positive results:
Do not click OK!! Try to close the window with the X box. Shut the computer down in normal fashion. If you cannot do a hard shutdown.Reboot into the safe mode with no networking and run your scans.Reboot normally update your antivirus and scan again. I throught perhaps someone with a lot more knowledge could post a process to follow when you get this message. Is there a way to set key words in the firewall to flag this event??
Sometimes, when I search for items in the start menu, it gets iffy about using exact names. For example, if I type 'Event' (for Event Viewer), I get nothing. But, when I remove the 't', the Event Viewer shortcut comes up. The same thing happens when I search for the Task Scheduler (using 'Task' and removing the 'k')
View 6 Replies View RelatedI always use hibernation, never had a problem with it up until today. When I tried to start the computer, the "Windows is resuming" screen just sits there. indefinitely and the green progress bar at the bottom is extremely slow. I tried deleting the hiberfil.sys file and re-enabled hibernation, but the same problem keeps occurring. So I started browsing the event logs and I found that every time I hibernated the system today I got an: The previous system shutdown <at time/date> was unexpected error. Which is strange as it was not unexpected for me, I initiated it. What could be causing this?
View 6 Replies View Relatedi have been getting issues with lock ups in vista, not sure what is causing the issue but suspect its driver related possibly with video drivers. I am sure this has been talked about previously but have tried lots of other peoples fixes but still get the same problem. Clean install vista 64 with no problems or event log errors, do a create system restore point. Install crucial updates only restart and check event viewer with no errors, create system restore.
Install latest Nvidia mobo drivers restart and check event viewer no errors, create a restore point. Install Nvidia beta drivers restart and check event viewer with lots of errors seemingly appear unrelated to driver so uninstall drivers and do a system restore point to before the install of drivers. Cleaned log of errors and restarted to make sure logs are still clean. Installed signed Nvidia drivers 177.41 and restarted and checked logs to find i still got some new errors but not as many, during the point of loading video drivers the first time i get errors and random lockups.
I was going to uninstall the drivers again but it locked up so after reboot when i got back to the desktop it was as if i didnt install the video drivers at all only the directory on C: was there but no interface or anything wierd? I then installed the drivers again and restarted, it seem to shut down and boot up much faster this time and seem to work fine at this point but still get random lock ups with no info in event viewer or BSOD?
I recently turned my computer (HP Pavilion Verde Special Edition a6645f) on after 4 days of dormancy. It runs Windows Vista. When it turned on, it told me it "could not connect to windows services," and that I should check the system event log. I tried, and it said the log is unavailable and to make sure it is running. Also, my sound has vanished. It is telling me, "No Audio Output Devices are installed." On top of that, my wireless internet is failing. It tells me that my wireless adapter (D-Link Rangebooster G Desktop Adaptor) is not available, even though when the computer starts, the LED on the adapter lights, then goes out......

here's the event: After uneventful computing for several hours this AM - I began to play Vista Spider Solitaire for some relaxation & the entire game/cursor - everything froze as I was about to win. Typical!
