Vista Can't Be Fixed Vista Service Packs

Jul 29, 2009

I don't want to be perceived as Vista basher. There're severe issues in it comparing to old WinXP - but my and many others reason to blast them publicly is NOT to harm something that's already dead, lyino on the floor & everyone kicking it like a dead horse - "dead horse" here means Vista. It's the past. The future is Windows7 and we're just making sure problems don't get inherited! What's wrong with Vista can't be fixed by Vista ServicePacks, nobody cares anymore, Win7 is the only thing I personally care for. Now here's another feature in Vista I actaully like, it was either missing or I didn't notice in WinXP. I listed several other great features, but here's one more:

I know DOS command prompt by heart, and since I am no longer young it's something that new generation often is unclear about. I can achieve many tasks faster by issuing commands and don't need any help files, I've been doing it since late 80's. Now with Power Shell it's a new level. This is a great continuation of command-driven interface. Also when renaming files in WinExplorer Vista doesn't select .Extension by default - more convenient than WinXP where I was annoyed by constant extesnion retyping. But a few great features still don't offset the fact Vista was a fiasco.

Downloading Service Packs

May 18, 2010

I recently received a response (in this forum) stating that it is possible
to download Windows Vista Service Packs 1 and 2 and have them available for
use by burning them to a CD. Sound great to me but I really need some
detailed help on how to do this. If I should be posting this to another
newsgroup, I would like to know which one.

(I amusing Windows Vista Home Premium.)

Service Packs Immediately Available

May 17, 2010

I am presently using Windows Vista Home Premium and am concerned about Microsoft support in the coming months. Should it be necessary in the future for me to do a complete disc recovery will the support be discontinued? In the past, I have been able to do such a recovery using the installation disc that came with my Dell Computer and later I received the Service Packs as an upgrade. If it becomes advantageous to do a complete recovery, will I be out of luck without the Service Packs immediately available?

Service Packs Don't Have Any Indication After Installation

Jul 29, 2009

I just reinstalled my Windows Vista Home Premium, and went through the ordeal of updating (almost 100 updates last night). When I click on Windows Update now it says that Vista is up to date. But I don't see any indication that any service packs have been installed. By the way, how many service packs are there for Vista, and do they have to be installed sequentially: that you, you must install SP1 first, then SP2, etc.? how to determine if the service pack(s) has been installed, and 2) how many service packs are there so far.

Vista Service Pack 2 Won't Install

Aug 9, 2009

Vista Service pack 2 won't install on hubbies laptop. (Vista Home Premium 32-bit) I have tried 3 times, rebooting after each attempt. An error pops up saying: "C:Windowssystem32sqmapi.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system Administrator or Software Vendor for support." The error code is C0000020 and on the heading bar is says "SPCLITE.EXE - Bad Image. We have no idea what program or what .dll it is talking about. I am running Malwarebytes on his computer at the moment to see if anything comes up regarding that.

Vista Does NOT Start The VNC Server (service) Mode.

Aug 5, 2007

I just built a Vista Ultimate x64 box, after a lot of effort I finally have most of my old Win2K Pro applications workings except for Real VNC. I have three machines in the work group, unfortunately one is Win2K Pro, XP Home and now the Vista x64. I think due to the Vista firewall or something else it will NOT let other machines access the Vista box, but I can access the other machines just fine from the Vista box. The work group seems to work fine. I am able to see/edit files on each computer Hdd.

The main problem as I have narrowed it down to, is that Vista box does NOT start in the VNC Server (service) mode. And I dont know how to get it to start. When I goto Start>Real VNC>Start VNC Server Service. It says the service is already running but I don't see the icon with the IP address in the task bar.

Turned Off Vista Disabled Firewall Service

Jun 23, 2008

We are running an old CA program for our antivirus here at school. It is called inoculateIT. It has performed well for us, so we've never upgraded to their newer offerings. To install it, you use a remote install program located on the domain controller. I just bought the first Vista computer to try out here and upon trying to install this program, it cannot find the path. When this happened with XP, it was because the Windows firewall was turned on. I have turned it off in Vista and disabled the firewall service, but still get the same message. It shows up in the list of computers in the remote install program's browser just like it does in the active directory list. I just believe it has something to do with the security in Vista that is blocking it.

Service Pack 2 For Windows Vista And Windows Server 2008, Hit An Important Milestone In Development

Feb 25, 2009

Just had this in my RSS Feed, thought it would be interesting. Announcing the Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 RC - Windows Vista Team Blog - The Windows Blog Quote: This week we are announcing that Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 has hit an important milestone in development: Release Candidate (RC).

Starting today, the RC of SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 will be available to TechNet and MSDN subscribers to test prior to final release. In the very near future, we will be making the RC broadly available for anyone to download and test. You can expect another blog post from me when that happens. SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 include updates that have been delivered since the release of SP1, as well as support for new types of hardware and emerging standards. As we’ve described since we first talked about SP2, we’ve taken your feedback into account when developing SP2. Specifically, we expect SP2 to continue the security benefits of both products and simplify deployment for our customers. For an outline of changes in SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, check out the notable changes document. We are planning to release SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 in the second quarter of 2009.

The Vista Scores Cannot Be Taken As A True Benchmark Unless You Use A Benchmarking Utility Written Specifically For Vista

Mar 29, 2008

The biggest factor that explains why your scores between XP and Vista are so radically different is because the benchmark program you are using (you never said which) is likely written specifically for XP. The Vista scores cannot be taken as a true benchmark unless you use a benchmarking utility written specifically for Vista, such as PCMark Vantage. You can then compare scores between yours and other Vista installations. But unless you find a utility that can correctly test and recognize the differences between both XP and Vista, you cannot accurately compare scores.

Is The Vista Ultimate User Account Passwords Located In A Different Place As Compared To Other Versions Of Vista

May 27, 2010

A friend of mine has been locked out of his Dell laptop and cannot find the password for the single account that it has. The laptop has Vista Ultimate installed on it and I am unable to activate the hidden administrator's account to get into Vista. Other investigations using other software shows only 2 accounts, Administrator and Guest but not the actual user single account that shows up onto the login screen. ( I have managed to blank out the Administrator and Guest passwords ) I have a standard Vista Recovery Disk , but I am unable to either repair or re-install Vista from the Dell hidden partition , and the only alternative is to install a unused retail version of Vista Home Premium that my friend has been given awhile ago. I have 2 questions

1) Is the Vista Ultimate user account passwords located in a different place as compared to other versions of Vista?

2) if I install this retail version of Home Premium on the Dell laptop, will I have problems with the propriety hardware that is on the Dell laptop and would I need to find all the Dell drivers for the laptop?

Crash Or Slow Down Vista It Usually Gets Documented In Vista's Error Logs

Jun 13, 2008

The often heard recurring theme spread by no nothing trolls and fanboys is if Vista isn't working right, it must be something you did rather than owning up to how badly Vista is designed once you start poking around and SEE how badly implemented it is. Much of the frustration with Vista comes from it's applets crashing or acting up for no apparent reason. Since these applets are INTERNAL and built-in as part of Vista's core the often heard excuse it's some third party driver, a hardware problem or other software you installed is proven to be bogus.

When something happens to either crash or slow down Vista it usually gets documented in Vista's Error Logs. However like most everything else Microsoft does, the logs are of little actual value other than pointing to how poorly designed and broken Vista really is.

To illustrate how broken Vista is, here's my experience this morning. As usual I started my day going to Google (my default home page) and clicking on News to see what the headlines were. Microsoft's browser hung. Waiting for it to respond, after 90 seconds I gave up and sure enough was treated to the usual BS asking if you want to wait longer or shut it down. I shut IE7 down. Next I went to Event Viewer......

Created Another Partition On My Drive For Vista X64. (two Other Partitions Running Vista X86)

Mar 14, 2008

I'm new to Vista x64 (the op sys as well as this site). I have just endeavored to try out Vista 64 bit on one of my workstations. I run VMWare Workstation at work and can use the additional memory addressing of Vista 64 (I have 4 gigs of RAM). nyway, my problem is this.

1) I created another partition on my drive for Vista x64. (two other partitions running Vista x86).
2) I have been running dual boot with Vista for quite a while and it runs fine.
3) After creating the new partition and installing Vista x64 with SP1 (integrated service pack on install DVD), I get drive corruption problems all over the place.

I have 3 500 gigabyte Western Digital drives in this machine. The first is for operating system partitions and the second strictly for backup (using Acronis True Image) and the third for data. The data drive seems to have problems reading when I attempt to install additional drivers for the x64 bit environment (just downloaded from the web). Also, I soon will get errors afterwards on the C drive also.

Dual Boot: Vista And Vista On 2 Hard Drives?

Jun 19, 2008

There are many articles on how to dual boot Vista and XP, but I want to dual boot Vista and Vista, with an existing installation, on 2 Hard Drives. Currently I switch these in the BIOS, but I'd much rather chose at a later stage, can this be done? Why? Because I keep one of the drives for random software that I rarely use.
