Vista Does NOT Start The VNC Server (service) Mode.

Aug 5, 2007

I just built a Vista Ultimate x64 box, after a lot of effort I finally have most of my old Win2K Pro applications workings except for Real VNC. I have three machines in the work group, unfortunately one is Win2K Pro, XP Home and now the Vista x64. I think due to the Vista firewall or something else it will NOT let other machines access the Vista box, but I can access the other machines just fine from the Vista box. The work group seems to work fine. I am able to see/edit files on each computer Hdd.

The main problem as I have narrowed it down to, is that Vista box does NOT start in the VNC Server (service) mode. And I dont know how to get it to start. When I goto Start>Real VNC>Start VNC Server Service. It says the service is already running but I don't see the icon with the IP address in the task bar.

Vista Corrupted Start In Safe Mode

Jul 21, 2009

I have Vista Home Premium 32bit. Vista became corrupted to the point where I was not even able to start in safe mode. I managed to make a set of backup dvds through the HP backup system just before the computer completely died. Vista Home Premium does not recognize these backup dvds, even though it does show that there are files on each of the dvds. Is there any way to retrieve the information on them?

Service That Fails To Start (Bonjour Service)

Apr 16, 2008

I use Vista Ultimate 64.

For the past few weeks I've been having an issue with an Apple made service called "Bonjour Service". That service is used in several pieces of software including iTunes (which I do not use) but also some Adobe applications (Version Cue for example) and the font management utility I use which is Extensis Suitcase 11.0.1 for Windows.

Both Version Cue and Suitcase depend on the Bonjour Service to work and I have had no issues with it for months but recently, the Bonjour Service stopped working and would not start anymore. It now gives this error message when trying to start it:

"('Bonjour Service' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

My user account is an admin account so privileges is not an issue. I had made no changes to my system myself before the Bonjour service began to "refuse" starting but I remember that I installed a few Windows updates a couple days prior. My machine is always on and I don't re-boot everyday.

So I was wondering if anyone has heard of the issue and knows how I might fix it or if anyone can give me pointers on how I my start trouble shooting this and find what started preventing the Bonjour Service from starting. FWIW, the Windows Firewall is already off and turning off my anti-virus doesn't help (Eset NOD32).

Re-synchronize Data Server Service Is Not Started

Sep 23, 2008

This morning I synchronized my Vista 32 Business SP1 laptop with my XP Home SP3 desktop. After finishing some work on the XP desktop I want to re-synchronize data for tomorrow's presentation with the Vista laptop and all I get is an error message with a message that my Server Service is not started. I have no idea why Microsoft thinks that every home user has their own personal network administrator, but anyway, I don't.

So I checked in Services.msc and, yes, Server Services are running. Just to check I paused and resumed, without any change. A ping was good (6 ms) and net view sees all connected machines. I go to the XP desktop and download some files from the laptop without problems. I try accessing the desktop from the Vista laptop and have no connection whatsoever.

Firewall Service Cannot Start

Nov 21, 2009

We have a Vista Ultimate installation with all service packs installed. Both the local security policy and the domain policy after joining a domain have the reserved accounts NETWORK SERVICE and LOCAL SERVICE configured to start as a service. If we disconnect the notebook from the domain and restart it, the Windows Firewall service refuses to start. All attempts to manage the firewall fail because the service reports it has not started. If you manually attempt to start the firewall service it fails. As soon as we put the notebook back on the domain network and reboot it works. Does anyone have any insight on why this happens and how we can get the firewall to start? Any sequence that effectively prevents the firewall from starting strikes me as a pretty serious misfeature. The notebook is
often used to configure devices by cross connecting straight to the device, so we cannot count on being on the domain network, but clearly we want a working firewall at all times.

Safe Mode Doesn't Start Up Freeze

Mar 23, 2008

Vista Home Premium I'm having with my newish Scaleo P2. I've never had problems with it for the two months I've had it. Yesterday I was burning some system recovery discs, but I had to leave before the process was finished. I asked my lady (no lady jokes, please to just shut off the computer when it was done. She *apparently* just did what I asked, but said there was a notification about updates that would be installed before shutdown. Well, when I turned on the computer this morning there was the usual startup Vista progress bar (moving green dots) then nothing - blank screen and no noticable noise from the pc. I noticed the last DVD disc was still sitting in the drive - I took it out and restarted. Same thing. Restarted and entered the boot menu and the advanced chipset features - the boot devices were correct and the HD's were properly recognized.Safe mode doesn't start up - freezes with 'wait' in the bottom of the screen. I got in touch with support and entered the Vista repair option. Running the 'Startup Repair' nothing happens - it just keeps running for hours. Running the 'System Recovery' - from an earlier Windows date, I get a message that I need to first run disk recovery and repair, which then proceeds and keeps running with no progress. I've tried putting in the first of the recovery discs that finished yesterday, but upon startup, it's like the pc doesn't sense anything's in the drive.

Vista Can't Be Fixed Vista Service Packs

Jul 29, 2009

I don't want to be perceived as Vista basher. There're severe issues in it comparing to old WinXP - but my and many others reason to blast them publicly is NOT to harm something that's already dead, lyino on the floor & everyone kicking it like a dead horse - "dead horse" here means Vista. It's the past. The future is Windows7 and we're just making sure problems don't get inherited! What's wrong with Vista can't be fixed by Vista ServicePacks, nobody cares anymore, Win7 is the only thing I personally care for. Now here's another feature in Vista I actaully like, it was either missing or I didn't notice in WinXP. I listed several other great features, but here's one more:

I know DOS command prompt by heart, and since I am no longer young it's something that new generation often is unclear about. I can achieve many tasks faster by issuing commands and don't need any help files, I've been doing it since late 80's. Now with Power Shell it's a new level. This is a great continuation of command-driven interface. Also when renaming files in WinExplorer Vista doesn't select .Extension by default - more convenient than WinXP where I was annoyed by constant extesnion retyping. But a few great features still don't offset the fact Vista was a fiasco.

Windows Could Not Start The Windows Audio Service On Local Computer

Jan 3, 2009

My speaker icon in the taskbar has a red cross on it. When I hover my mouse over it, it says "The audio service is not running", if I right click it I get 3 options

1. Playback devices
2. Recording devices
3. Sounds

I went to my start menu and searched services.msc and checked to see if plug and play, windows audio endpoint builder, and multimedia class scheduler were all set to startup type automatic & all started. they were. so then i go to Windows Audio, right click to properties, and it is stopped. So i click to start it and it says "Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process."

I tried to restore my computer but my restore point is past the point when this issue originated. Also, Conexant Driver is installed and working properly. If I right click on the volume icon with a little red X through it... I can click on Open Volume Mixer, and It says "No Audio Device Installed" Yet, my audio devices are installed.

Turned Off Vista Disabled Firewall Service

Jun 23, 2008

We are running an old CA program for our antivirus here at school. It is called inoculateIT. It has performed well for us, so we've never upgraded to their newer offerings. To install it, you use a remote install program located on the domain controller. I just bought the first Vista computer to try out here and upon trying to install this program, it cannot find the path. When this happened with XP, it was because the Windows firewall was turned on. I have turned it off in Vista and disabled the firewall service, but still get the same message. It shows up in the list of computers in the remote install program's browser just like it does in the active directory list. I just believe it has something to do with the security in Vista that is blocking it.
