Update: "Windows Security" And Allow Communication?
Aug 19, 2009
Since the last Vista update I get a message from "Windows Security": Account: 'pop.suddenlink.net', Server: 'pop.suddenlink.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid user name or password.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
The user name and PW are good I can still log on a read online. How do i get windows security to stand down and allow communication? This setup has been working great for a couple of years now
I know microsoft released an update back in october to protect against conficker. I got my computer in december with the olest update being many security and windows mail ....... updates. Although non of them are rated critical, did I get the update? When I click on windows update it says WINDOWS IS UP TO DATE
i have symantec antivirus corporate editon on my computer and all of the sudden for some odd reason the windows security center is telling me its not communitcating with it, its up to date with the virus list, does anyone have an oppionon on this antivirus,
i have a vista computer with bullguard pre installed.Whenever i start up,a balloon at the bottom of the screen tells me defender is out of date. However,it has always been impossible to update this or indeed download any windows updates since i bought the computer new a few months ago.
I have attempted many times and failed to install a security update for Microsoft.NetFramework, version 1.1 service pack 1 (KB29729). I receive a failed to install with a Code 66A. I have tried to find an explanation for the code to no avail. This is listed as an important update for vista but I am stumped as to why it won't install.
This security update (see below) kept reappearing on my task bar wanting to be installed and I kept installing it. I finally checked and I have it on the list of installed updates a dozen times--but it still keeps appearing on my task bar asking to be installed. It's like a spell gone wrong. How do I stop it and/or get rid of it? I don't even have works 8 on my computer. Thanks, Don.
A security vulnerability exists in Microsoft Works 8 that could allow arbitrary code to run when a maliciously modified file is opened. This update resolves that vulnerability.

I am unable to install Security Vista update KB967723 (released very recently). When I attempt to install this patch I get the error code '80070020'.
I have downloaded this patch manually to install with no success. I have tried turning off my anti-virus (AVG) and windows firewall, with again no success. I keep getting the above error code.
I have also scanned my system with AVG, Windows defender, Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal & Ad-Aware (nil viruses etc...)
I am running Windows Vista 64bit edition on an Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard, Intel Q9540 2.66gz Quadcore processor with 4gb RAM. My system has been running fine for the last year and just last night (27th June 2009) windows told me there were 3 updates that should be installed. I only noticed one of the update names which was Internet Explorer 8, the other 2 were security updates or something - really not sure though. The total of the downloaded updates was around 280mb.
Anyway... So I started installing the updates and walked away. When I came back there was a Terms & Agreement box for Internet Explorer 8 which I agreed to. Once that finished it came back to my desktop and said "windows needs to restart to configure the updates, please restart now."..........
Dell forward a bunch of updates from Microsoft yesterday. One was Security Update KB950759. After this was installed I couldn't access the internet. After I uninstalled it everything worked. Again today it was sent by Dell and installed-same thing, couldn't access internet until I uninstalled it.
A Dell Inspiron 1521 running Vista. There are several problems that all seem related but the most obvious one is that I can't update Vista. It is set up to update automatically. However, the "New Updates are Available" Icon appears on the task bar. If I click on it a window comes up and immediately disappears. If I hunt through the help menus until I find a link that says "Click to open Windows Update" the same thing happens: a window opens and immediately shuts. Similarly if I go to the control panel and click Windows Update nothing happens.
If I right click on it and choose Explore a window comes up but it is empty. The Default Programs icon is similarly unresponsive. If I click on the Windows Defender Icon and click on that and say to update, it returns error 0x8007045a. In addition to that, the backup/recovery thing returns errors. And when I try to run Ad-Aware it hangs. All of these failures are related to security
I have installed the security patch for IE and I did a disc check afterwards when I noticed , on completion that Windows had made alterations to the file system and that there was 8KB of bad sectors but the disc was clean ! Is this something that I should be worried about ?
I found this interesting. It seems those of us who have the .NET framework add-on installed in Firefox will have trouble with this Windows Update. It's listed on my Updates as a security update for IE8- KB974455
1. Installing Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (944533) stops IE7 (in Windows Vista x64 Ultimate) from showing web pages. Uninstalling the Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (944533) resumes IE7 showing web pages.
2. Any version of Agent mail.ru (messenger, e-mail notifier, cannot connect in the Windows Vista x64 Ultimate. I checked everything the Agent mail.ru support suggested.
It seems that all my desktop shortcuts have turned into white squares. It happened after the installation of last weeks security update.(at least I assume it was caused by the update.
Just bought a new computer (Alienware M17 with 64 bit windows vista ultimate) and installed the drivers for my Dell 924 all in one via a Dell 3300 wireless printer adapter. The printer is working fine with my new computer - however after I installed the printer the following message pops up about every 15 minutes:
Printer communication system has stopped working and was closed. A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available. Sometimes an additional prompt appears to submit the problem to Microsoft =96 however Windows has yet to find a solution to the problem. The only printers I have installed on my system are my =93Dell Photo AIO Printer 924=94 and the default =93Microsoft XPS Document Writer.=94 I=92ve never seen this issue with any of the other computers that use this printer running 32 bit versions of vista.
I keep getting a message that this update is ready to install. I have installed it about 10 times, but after it is installed, I get the update icon and the same update is there ready to be installed. When I look at the installation history, it shows that it has been installed successfully. HOW do I keep this update from showing up time after time? Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181)
That is the message I get from the icon in my Vista tray. When I try to manually check for Windows Updates I get the message that I need to "first install an update for Windows Update". When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.
Microsoft Update was first released a few years ago for Windows XP and Server 2003 as a great way to update all of your Microsoft software installed on your PC. Not only would it update Windows, but it would also update Microsoft Office. Are you a Microsoft Outlook user? If so, Microsoft Update would even download updated junk mail signatures when they are released.
In Windows Vista the new Windows Update application is no longer web-based. Microsoft has built-in the old Microsoft Update functionality into the new interface but you need to turn it on before you can use it. Follow these steps to turn on updates for other Microsoft applications: ...
I am updating my computer and I thought it was finish but my computer restarts and I encountered the death blue screen. I can't switch into safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with Command Prompt and Last Known good configuration. I don't know how to solve this problem because I can't get into any of the modes and even I inserted the installation disc I can't still see any repair computer or what. It will just turn to blank screen with space at the upper left after if i will insert the installation disc.
I understand that Vista SP2 RC update has to be uninstalled before installing SP2 RTM update(when bcomes available). Does 5the Windows Update automatically uninstall SP2 RC update or does it has to be done manually?
The last time an update was installed was in January..since the next time i was offered an update, Windows Update or any of the programs that use windows update fail to update. Also i can't download the updates manually..standalone msu installers also dont work.. windows defender, IE8 installations also fail to update. And unfortunately i have deleted the recent system restore checkpoints before i knew about this problem. Windows Update gives error 80070002, i have tried the "solution" to delete temp update files, and all other solutions i could find on the internet. Windows defender gives the same error.
The updates can be downloaded from windows update, but cannot be download (not even manually in .msu package) I also lost many shortcut files of MS Office (the icon turned white and they lost their target). Some shortcuts of 3rd party programs are also lost (which were supposed to be in c:windowsinstallerlabla I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 (SP1 came with the ssytem when i bought it). This is very weird. I have no other choice than to reformat drive and use recovery disk.
I have an acer 3055WXMi laptop running Windows Vista home basic 32bit. I hav no 3rd party firewall, only other security software i have is AVG anti-virus Every time i start up my laptop windows firewall fails 2 start, windows security alerts comes up.
My computer is running the concistency check. It's at stage 3 and when it's almost complete it's starts to "replace invalid security Id with default security id for file ******" it's been doing this for a while now and I was wondering what I can do to speed it up. It's currently at 170000, and if I try to restart the computer the login screen will not load if I skip the disk check.
I got Vista 32 bit installed on my laptop. I work from Internet And need a good firewall and security suite which can protect my computer from trojen and malewars and hackers. Currently i am using kaspersky as my internet security and in past i have used Norton Security suite, In Both I have noticed getting too much of hacking attempts 3/hr.
