I use my laptop to play an MMoRPG Game and I noticed it runs extremely slower than a few months back. I also noticed the System Idle Process is running and using 90% of the cpu. Is there anything I can do to speed up my computer or to stop the System Idle Process from using up all the CPU?

I want to know how I can prevent my computer from going back to the log on page after it has been idle for a time. I would simply rather touch the laptop pad and just be able to pick up from where I left off instead of having to sign in all over again. I use Vista Ultimate. I have tried going to Personalization and the Screensaver page and checked to see if the On resume, display logon screen has been unchecked and it has been all along apparently.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new pc with Vista Home Premium, it came with: 1GB PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM, expandable to 4GB. I wanted more memory so I bought a 2GB kit PC2-*5300* DDR2 SDRAM, because it was on sale for $60. The 6400 speed would have cost me over $200. The salesman assured me it would work fine and I wouldn't notice any difference. I installed it when I got home and everything works great, no problems. But I still can't stop wondering if the difference in speed WOULD matter. Can anyone explain, or provide a link explaining, when, if ever, I would benefit from the faster memory. I mostly use my PC for surfing the web, email, and some photo editing.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen my Vista Home Premium-SP1, is idle for awhile, the computer freezes. the screen is a grayish color and the mouse circle just keeps twirling. I have to manually re-boot. Everything is fine until I leave and come back...and it is frozen again. I cannot ctrl-alt-delete either. When I went to do a system restore, I saw that all my restore points were gone. How could this have happened? I thought maybe a windows update could be the source so I uninstalled the many updates (approx. 25). the next morning, I saw they had all returned even though I have it set not to download automatically.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home premium for 2 years. About a week ago it slowed to apoint where it may take 5 minutes to respond. Task manager Performance shows about 50% CPU usaage but Processes says 98% idle. If I start in safe mode Task Manager is the same but I seem to get a little better response. I use a free version of AVG.This problem seems to show up a lot in Google but each one seems to get resolved a different way. I tried some things others did but it has had no affect. The last time I started there were about 10 SVCHOST
processes. I ended a few but nothing changed.It takes a long time for one to end because the response is so slow.And it gets slower the longer I am up.
Where do I start to get to the bottom of ths?
From time to time my system (Vista64) shuts down - when IDLE - for no reason. WIndows restarts and says: Windows recovered for an unexpected shutdown... error report send. How to debug? Note that the system is idle; only background processes are running.
What I've done sofar:
- Ran extended memory test: no problem
- Disabled power saving settings (as I suspected a problem going into hibernate/sleep). No effect.
- Disabled all "user based processes" as Picasa, Google indexing, CPU-temp watcher etc..
- Removed all USB sticks (no readyboost anymore)
I leave the system idle and 10minutes to 2hours later; bang; shutdown Note also that the system never chrashed when I'm actually working. So, not a severe issue but I feel intellectually challenged to get the thing under control.
My new system was running at idle temps of 46c and under load (2 games and ventrillo running) it was sitting at around 61c @3.1Ghz. Now tempted to go a bit further to see how it will perform. I wanted to get the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreeme but found it difficult to locate from local supplies but with more reading i found that a lot of people also had good reviews with the Zalman 9700 LED HSF setup so i was able to get that and man what a difference it made. I now run my system @3.5Ghz easy with idle temps at 38c and under load at 50c thats a damn vantastic difference it has made. extra rep points from me but i am not sure how to do that

I've recentely bought a Qnap TS-109 NAS Sever. I am trying to copy all my bideo and music files over to it, however, as soon as I sart a transfer (either throught windows explorer or FTP) my computer slows to a crawl. Basically videos and music become juddery, my mouse and keyboard become very slow etc. Also I only seem to get about 3.5 MBPS when transfering files. Im on a 100mbps lan, my maths says that says thats a maximum of 12.5 MBPS, I know there are overheads but it should still be faster? Infact streming videos from the NAS server to my computer is worse that streaming them via my 54mbps wireless connection to my PS3. Is there something wrong with my setup? I am using two devolo highspeed home plugs between my pc and router, although my pc still says its connected at 100mbps and the homeplugs say they are linked at 100mbps.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn my network, sometimes my user's laptops freeze during the logon script. Well the computers don't actually freeze, they just don't move beyond the logon script. When I go into task mamager, cpu is running at 100% (2 gb ram and very new processors) and the process taking up the most memory (48,748k)is svchost.exe I think it's associated with the windows search indexing but I'm not completely sure. On the Microsoft support site I saw that I could use the command tasklist /svc to see what is running in svchost. But I haven't figured out yet how to determine exactly what this svchost process is assoicated with so I can prevent it from running all the time.

aswell as this BSOD: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION STOP 0x0000003B with the file/driver: "dxgkrnl.sys" identified
I've been getting a lot of blue screen stop messages that halt mycomputer. About 2 weeks ago this was happening once a day. It became more frequent until yesterday it was happening every time I tried to boot up during the boot process. Last night, I finally copied off all of my files, formatted the hard drive, and installed a new copy of Vista Premium. Believe it or not, I still have the same problem - although now I can boot up and get some work done before a crash happens.
This is a Sony Vaio laptop with 1.25 gigs of ram and a 70 gig hard drive. The error messages are always different. I didn't write any of them down, but they are like "Subset not less than zero" and "Page fault in non-paging area" and "IQL server not found" (I'm sure these aren't right, but you get the idea). So, how could this be happening on a clean and formatted hard drive with a brand new operating system? Is the problem in the BIOS or the motherboard or somewhere else?
Everytime I return to work after putting computer to sleep, the computer wakes up without no problem. But once I move the mouse, a shadowed box appeared. With the moment of the mouse, the size of that box enlarges or shrinks. If I click on the mouse, that box disappeared but then a window [View/Sort by/Refresh/NVIDIA Control Panel/New/Personalize] opens. I close this window, only to find the pointer of mouse stop working and the screen is frozen. For now I solve the problem by two ways described below, but it is very annoying to have to do it everytime I return to work from Sleep.
1.I open Task Manager, do nothing, and close it.
2.I right click the mouse on desktop, change the size of Icons. Repeat this action one more time.
I'm trying to figure out how to stop the esc key from power on my computer. It doesn't do it if I've turned off the PSU recently, and the BIOS settings are all set to disable for USB/Keyboard/Mouse/etc powering on the system... but if I've booted to Vista once, then shut-down the esc key will now power on the computer. As there are many cats running around my house, so far almost every time I've left the house, I've returned to my computer on I've been poking around the Power Settings and other such options but I can't seem to find any option to stop Vista from turning my computer on. It's not the sleep option either that I'm choosing, It's "shut down" on the shut down button.

The hard drives shut down after fifteen minutes. My computer buddy says that, since there are no moving parts, then it should be no problem leaving it running. Is this true or false?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Vista x64 Ultimate and I'm having internet connection issues. My laptop is the HP Pavillion dv7. My ISP tells me everything is fine on his end. I have a router (Linksys model BEFW11S4) 2.4 Ghz - 802.11b. When I connect the wire from my modem directly to my laptop, I get internet speeds of 900 Kbps. But when I use the router, the speed goes down to 300 Kbps. Is there a setting in Vista that could be doing this? According to Linksys, I should be able to attain 900 Kbps with the router. The laptop comes with a wireless adapter (Intel Wi-Fi Link 5100AGN).
View 8 Replies View RelatedThis is a tough one for me to explain but I will try very hard. I guess this started around late summer 09. I turned on my computer and it would run chkdsk over and over again. I let it go over night once and it was still scanning the hard drive over and over. Around Christmas time I reinstalled vista and still it would run chkdsk on every boot. Only this time, it ran once and then vista loaded fine. It would stop responding often and run slow but it was better. I manually turned off chkdsk but it made the computer run worse over time.
It would just not do anything so i would have to hold on the power button and turn it back on. The hard drive light will just stay on and the drive will sound a little different than usual. No clicking or metal on metal noise, just a different type of busy noise until you open something. Also you could use the disk clean up but not the defrag. It will say you should defrag volume so i would click defrag now. It would just show you the spinning blue circle and say analyzing but then say you should degrag volume again. So it won't defrag either. System restore also does not work.........
I have just downloaded speedfan 4.37 and done a test. My GPU is running at 75C!! I have a Nvidia Geforce 7300SE. I also have just a standard CPU fan. I have a thermal take case fan on order aswell. How else can i cool my GPU?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAt idle, I have 50% cpu usage at times. It seems to be msiexec.exe. I have absolutely no idea why. Is this a normal Vista behaviour? Second, at startup I have 67 processes running, then it jumps to 72, then back down to 67. I had this amount on my XP pro machine, but had probably over 60 different programs installed, as it was a shared machine with CAD programs, graphic design software, etc. Now I only have vista, adobe cs3, blackberry, and office... And for my final question, Why does eSata not able to "hot-swap"? Is this normal as well (sorry, I've always used firewire for my external drives, but now I'm trying to use eSata)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed Vista recently and now, when I've got all updates and I've installed few programs into Windows like Visual Studio, Mobile Device Center, some SDKs etc, every time the system is idle the CPU load is 50%, not exactly, but about 50%.
So I've tried to determine which process makes this CPU load. After Alt Ctrl Delete and Task Manager I haven't got to know anything. I've installed Process Explorer from Sysinternals. He told me process "System" makes this high load. I've tried to "kill" process "System". Yes, load felt down. But this isn't solution because after reboot it's the same.
my computer is running idle and nothing is going on, i am just staring at the screen and it seems like a lot of ram is being used up...and i dont know whats eating it...is 51% a little too high for an idle..if so, can u guys help me point down whats eating it all up?

My computer freeze for 2-5 second, next is black screen for 2seconds(as monitor is shuted down) and next is black screen while i don't stop the game.
