How can you eliminate the os from asking you to authorize -each time you want to do ANYTHING!!---my screen freezes, finally the screen dims and a question block appears==asking me to authorize Vista to continue.
View 4 RepliesIn my network, sometimes my user's laptops freeze during the logon script. Well the computers don't actually freeze, they just don't move beyond the logon script. When I go into task mamager, cpu is running at 100% (2 gb ram and very new processors) and the process taking up the most memory (48,748k)is svchost.exe I think it's associated with the windows search indexing but I'm not completely sure. On the Microsoft support site I saw that I could use the command tasklist /svc to see what is running in svchost. But I haven't figured out yet how to determine exactly what this svchost process is assoicated with so I can prevent it from running all the time.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy problem has been going on for a while but has recently gone over the edge and caused me some big problems. I play Second Life and from time to time, it would freeze up my computer but yesterday, the screen of the laptop just went black and I had to hard reboot my computer, only for it to come up with the Vaio screen looking horrible graphically. Then it would commence to the normal boot up and then to a black screen and it stayed there all night. I've tried removing everything with Second Life off of my computer and it still won't boot up completely.
I tried leaving it on overnight to see if would bypass the black screen but it wouldn't. How should I go about fixing this? I can try getting my hands on the Vista DVD and or the recovery disks from my girlfriend. I would honestly just like to know what caused the problem and how to fix it because you can easily learn from your mistakes by fixing it. Oh, another interesting tidbit is that my brother used the computer beforehand to do some research then left it on and when he came back, the screen was black and when he rebooted it, the screen was messed up and he did a system restore to bring it back to normal but if I tried that now, it would still only boot up in safe mode and not regularly.
I've had voltage issues causing my computer to freeze or reboot during games and dvds. Fixed that and the computer was fine after memtest showing no problems. That was late Dec.
A few days ago, the computer would go to a blue screen saying it's dumping physical memory and then automatically reboots. Thinking my harddisk might be collapsing on me (I have a seagate barracuda 7200.11 500Gb HD with the SD15 firmware, the infamous crash friendly HD), I flash the HD with the SD1A firmware from seagate, then it was fine. 2days later, Catalyst started to cause problems by not responding, so I formated the drive and reinstalled vista ultimate, along with Catalyst, drivers from Mobo manufacturer ASUS, plus a couple of other softwares. That was yesterday, and now I'm getting the same blue screen back, or the computer just freezes.
Alright well right now I am not sure as to where this thread goes but I am going to place it here for now. Now I recently got internet and I think the speed is 2.1mb I know it is not much but it is enough to run xbox live or computer gaming I think, But I have a pesky step sister who refuses to stop download movies and tv series, and I have confronted her with it but it does not work at all, now I have a router and I have been looking around relentlessly trying to figure out how to either block her from certain sites put a certain bandwidth on her computer but I just can't seem to find it.
My router is a Belkin N150 I have pulled up the router config and there is nothing I can visually see that will do any of what I need, it does not have parental controls or block specific sites, I don't want to block her from complete access just from that because it lags me not only on my computer but I can't even play xbox live its frustrating
I have a problem with this graphic card, when I run a game with better graphic details. My computer freeze for 2-5 second, next is black screen for 2seconds(as monitor is shuted down) and next is black screen while i don't stop the game. Next I see this-> I hope that you solve my problem(and see that image) BTW: if this problem was solved on this forum sorry, but on system instantForum i was never been and i don't know how it control. Since I don't want it to affect my normal foreground applications, I set it to IDLE/BELOW_NORMAL priority using Process Explorer. However, when I lock my screen (manually or automatically after some idle time), the encoding virtually stops. When I unlock my screen, I can see from recent history that CPU was idle instead of being utilized to run the encoding process. What can I do to ensure that my background encoding process continues to run even when I am away from the computer (the screen is locked), but at the same time not affect any foreground applications if I happen to be using the computer?

If I click on the Undo button, undo stays on the screen until I shut down the computer. What could be the problem?
View 1 Replies View Related* When I start the system, it gets to the Vista's bootscreen (where you see the progress bar). At that point, the laptop freezes. In fact, it freezes before I can see the colored boxes in the progress-bar.
* If I force a cold shutdown (by holding down the power-button), and then restart the laptop, it might load fine and everything would be running fine (like there was never any problems).
* Assuming, it didn't freeze and loaded Vista successfully, then I would shutdown Vista through the Start button.
* If I try to start the laptop again, it will freeze at the bootscreen again.
* I cannot tell when it will freeze at the bootscreen..............
MS Flight Simulator X with the FS-X-SP1 patch and the Acceleration pack on top running on Vista Ultimate and a eVGA 8800GT-512MB card with the latest official 169.25 Nvidia drivers installed after about 1 hour the entire machine locked up, dark screen total freeze. Had to Hard reset. There is nothing in any of the Vista Event logs to be found.
How is this possible? Suffice to say this machine is absolutely stable hardware-wise .....
Solution (for whomever may have stumbled upon this page through Google): My computer was freezing on a random basis because I used Acronis Disk Director Suite to partition my hard drive (issues with Vista compatibility?). Anyway, I had to write 0's to my hard drive (using KillDisc, i.e. deleting my entire hard drive and reinstalling everything) and no more issues.
If "send to HP" in the title doesn't give it away: My HP Pavilion is under warranty, but the thing is - I've sent it back to HP for repairs twice already (for the same screen-related problem). I hate their customer service for giving me a bad product and not fixing it the first time . I'd do anything to not sent it in again for another few weeks... Hopefully I can do something myself (I'm competent enough to do / learn to do very advanced procedures)....
My boyfriend installed a 3D falling leaves screensaver from freeze.com, and then decided he didn't want it. I tried uninstalling it, but I still see references to it. And when I try to uninstall it now, I get the message "INSTALL.LOG does not exist". What can I do?

I had to cut the power to turn the computer off and have been unable to boot up. Every attempt to boot fails and ends with the same line.
I am having trouble with my laptop it's a toshiba a100 32 bit with vista home premium. I don't know much about computers and am generally pretty chilled out when it comes to resolving issues with them but this is REALLY making me lose my cool.
About a month ago my computer started crashing regularly and eventually i couldn't even log on after the welcome screen. it just sat there spinning and would eventually freeze. After reading a few forums i found a post which said to do a system recovery but i don't have a disk and then i found something that said i need to make a disk but can't for the life of me fugure out how to do that.
i tried 'last known good configuration' and finally passed the welcome screen to find that i had a fake security centre virus. i have found over the past few weeks my system has been locking up in the first 10 minutes or so. All i get is a whit screen and a constant freeze out that is not resolved by ctrl alt del. I have taken the following actions
1. took side off case and removed any dust which was minimal
2. cleaned down heatsink
3. removed plug in Graphics card as i noticed it was very hot (GF8400GS)
4. reinstalled Vista ultimate from scratch
5. left the system running with the side off
alas it is still crashing in the first few minutes or wehn i try to install anything. The system is currently clean with just the install software given it crashes as soon as i try to do anything. It is 8 months old and in very good condition. I am at an absolute loss as to what could be. As stated before i cannot run for more than a few minutes so am struggling to do anything with the system....
Advanced System Care Free 3.3.4 and Orbit Downloader 2.8.13 which are both the latest versions respectively.
I noticed this issue ever since I moved to Vista. Back in XP the two would simply run on startup with no flukes. This time, however, there are a few lapses. Let me explain.
1. Advanced System Care Free starts up most of the time but there are times that it just dosen't and the the tray icon is completely missing even when I start the application manually.
2. Orbit Downloader, no matter how many times I select the option for it to startup it simply refuses to do so.
If I leave my computer sit overnight, it will completely freeze, and I have to hard-shut it down. The only program that was running was Firefox (with a few pages open). What would cause this?
Overheating?
Memory issues?
GPU issues?
I have had freezing before while browsing on the internet, but it has happened only once, and I had tons of Firefox windows open. It will, however, freeze almost every time I play Company of Heroes Gold, and sometimes freezes when I play FarCry2. In addition, I can benchmark it over and over, but if I let it sit for an hour AFTER I benchmark it, the system will freeze. I have all updates...64 bit drivers, BIOS, etc... These issues aside, why would it freeze when sitting idle overnight? My system specs are pretty good...if I was overheating I would be shocked
When I start it, it will go to the desktop, everything will run fine, then suddenly nothing can be clicked, and soon the cursor also freezes. No chance to Ctrl+Alt+Dlt or bring up task manager. This freeze was initially happening after about 30 seconds, but after taking out one stick of RAM it lasts as long as 5 minutes before freezing (may be coincidence). This started happening before I changed any settings, the PC is still as new.
I have tried taking out the RAM and putting back in, leaving one stick out as mentioned above, and having a look at the BIOS on startup (didn't really know what to look for though). Made sure everything is plugged into PSU, everything looks right, I'm truly at a loss as to why this is happening. Oh, and freeze doesn't happen in Safe Mode, which leads me to believe it's nothing to do with hardware and is related to Vista or drivers?
I have a fairly new computer (about 5 months), and I recently wanted to play Oblivion again. When I ran the setup for it, the music would start from the setup program, and I would click yes (for permission to run the setup program) then I would get an error saying that the program has to close. I browsed the internet for solutions, and found that Oblivion was made for XP and hasnt made a patch/compability for Vista. I also read that Oblivion can be played on a vista and that many people are doing it. I found out I had to run the setup program (and the oblivion program) in windows xp service pack 2. I installed the game with no problem after that.
Now when I run the game, it goes to the menu screen (with the option for new game, load, option, ect.), and the first couple times I would go to options to configure the graphics and sound ect... after about 10-30 seconds the computer would freeze with the screen frozen, or the computer would freeze and the screen go black. After a couple tries (after restarting the computer) I would click on "New Game". The intro movie would play for about 10 secound before my computer froze again .
About two years ago I bought a Vista HP laptop. Recently when I went on vacation with my children the snow storm holed us up in the hotel with nothing to do. So they used my laptop alot. After this, my laptop did not work properly. About 1 minute after I turn it on it will freeze completely. After about ten minutes it will unfreeze but proceed to execute all of the clicks I made during the time it was frozen. I am at about an intermediate stage when it comes to computers. I have already posted the above in the General Discussions forum and they told me to come to you guys. My old firewall did not seem to be doing the job to I downloaded a trial of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and started the scan it has been scanning for about 5 hrs. and has come up with 1 infected object. I am pretty sure that is the root of my problem but my computer won't unfreeze long enough for me to take care of it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario CQ50 that was just purchased in November. About a week after we got it, I started getting the dreaded blue screen and it kept shutting down on me. Internet would also freeze. Went round and round with tech support, nothing they did ever seemed to fix the problem, but all of the sudden one day after an automatic Windows update, it was working fine. Fast forward a few months. Started getting some random issues over the last several weeks. Blue screen and Internet freezing again, then keyboard and touchpad stopped working. Tech support had me change some configuration settings in the BIOS and it started working again. The a couple days later, I turned on the system one day and was getting the "unable to start" error and it couldn't ever be fixed. Tech Support did a system restore that got me started, but lots of things were disabled that shouldn't have been and we couldn't get the Internet to work, so he recommended I back up and do a system recovery since something was obviously wrong. Did that, worked fine for about a day, then went to turn it on the other day and got the same "unable to start" again.
This time, it was able to fix it and start. The only program I've added since the recovery was a webdesign program. Had it before as well. Thought I was in the clear, but now I keep getting the Blue Screen and it keeps restarting on me. Then today I went to reinstall my printer and it won't install. During the installation, I get an error message, something about 1% not found win32. Sorry, I should have written it down. I called Tech Support again and they wanted me to send it in, but I absolutely can't do that as I run a business and can't be without it that long. So they told me to take it to Best Buy, which I will, but I'd love to be able to figure this out of my own so I don't have to be without my computer for an extended period of time.
does video editing at times for company, so theres a folder with all my videos but after switching to vista and happy with the rendering speed and "stability" compared to XP on video editing purposeon the first run of video editing, done with the video rendered into WMA and HD mpeg-4 upon entering the folder containing video, vista GAY(grey) screen me and hell freeze over and i had to manual push power button to force switch off and boot up...
did the disabling the DEP, and still problem PERSISTED. and had to force me to do a system recovery to reinstated the OS to factory state after it fails to boot up completely... if it hadnt been a pre-installed OS in a Brand laptop, i could have used the Vista installation repair option and i really wish to find out the bloodly problem vista have up in A** that video folder cannot be access could be solved. or else i had to save my videos in a ext HD and preview it in the virtual machines environment. any vista techie guru could enlighten me?
here's the event: After uneventful computing for several hours this AM - I began to play Vista Spider Solitaire for some relaxation & the entire game/cursor - everything froze as I was about to win. Typical! Please note the time discrepancy below from the event log - indicating the correct date/time (7/21) from the log as opposed to the 'description' that indicates the wrong time and date from the previous day (7/20).
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been running Ultimate x64 and had occasional freezing problems. I'm pretty sure those are related to a memory issue. Normally I just have to hard reset the system and everything is fine. But yesterday I had a lock-up, hard reset and somehow the date was changed to 18 Apr, 2066. I obviously couldn't connect to the internet, so I reset the date to 2009 and restarted. No change.
My software subscriptions think they have expired, and I'm at a complete loss here. I require the internet and that software on that system for work and have no idea what to do. I believe as soon as I get the connection up, my subscriptions will talk to their online server friends and all will be fine (hopefully), so that's why this thread is here.
I have a problem currently with Windows Vista Ultimate(Integrale), this occurred last Friday evening. I was finishing off a word document when suddenly all went black. As an end user I assumed this was a system crash and so rebooted my system, then ran registry repair, then checked for viruses etc with Live OneCare, eventually reloaded Vista all to no avail. Each time I rebooted I was greeted by a black screen after logging in.
I called my tech support who could not help but I did manage to gain access to the internet and after a short while found an item entitled Black Screen Death. This reported that all my problems where due to Microsoft thinking I had a non genuine copy of Vista it went on to explain how you could circum-navigate the problem (this I did and even though I have to repeat this process each time I log on I can use Windows normally). I purchased my copy of Vista Ulitimate from a large chain store at the not give away price of over 400 Euros and registered the same online on the day of installation and have been running for sometime with other Microsoft products including Live OneCare. Why then am I suddenly crippled for an entire weekend by Microsoft security and how can I rectify the situation perminently
I have the latest drivers for all technology and all works well, with one xception. Vista will "stutter" or have small freezes when I attempt to:
1. Open My Computer
2. Open or Close Media Player
3. Some websites also generate this behavior.
Each "freeze" period lasts about 5 to 10 seconds before the system returns to normal. When I view each of the processor cores during these "freeze" periods, each cores cycles to 100% utilization, in order.
I have just puchased my first Windows Vista computer - an HP laptop. I have purchased at leat five laptops since 2000 so I am familiar with setup and
comfortable with installations etc. I have three questions here.
1. My last computer had Windows XP and an 80 gb hard drive with 70 gb full - After copying the data only (55 GB) to my new 250 gb hard drive I have only 107 GB remaining of the 222 GB C drive partition. I have not yet added many programs. That tells me that Vista must be using 50-60 GB or more of the drive. Can that be correct?
2. My new computer takes 5-6 minutes to start up. After two minutes I get the welcome screen. Then the monitor goes black for a full two minutes before continuing the startup process. Is this normal for Vista?
3. Occasionally the monitor goes dark for a few seconds and a window pops up saying the display driver has failed but is back. Is this normal?
I certainly gained no speed with this new computer. There are many things I like about Vista. Since I have no previous experience with owning it I am trying to sort out if this computer is a lemon that should be returned or if I should just put up with the downside.
I dont know what happened. All of a sudden I cant use my computer. Whenever I start windows normally I get a black screen with this message: 0c0000034 247/99403 (_oooooooooooooooo.cdf-ms). When I try to start safe mode it loads a bunch of files then says please wait. It never goes past please wait. I cant do a system restore. Whenever I try I get some unspecified error message. The "Last Known Good Configuration" option doesent work either. I've tried startup repair several times but that doesent work.
