Processes Tab On Task Manger

Mar 4, 2009

I've been working with a new audio recorder program and after working with it I close it down. When I attempt to open it up later it will not open. I started checking and saw that under the Processes Tab on Task Manager it was there. So not knowing what else to do I ended the process. Then the program opens as usual. Can anyone explain this? Why would the program still remain there and NOT appear under any other tabs such as Services? How can I fix this so that I don't have to repeat this each time I want to use the program?

Task Manger Disable Admin

Mar 23, 2008

I'm having some problems with my PC, I use Vista home basic by the way. I think its to do with administrative privilages. Basically my account is the Administrator account but some things won't work for me. For example, if i want to change my IE homepage i can't because the field to type in is unclickable. At the bottom of the options page it says "Some settings are managed by your sytem administrator". Another problem is when I try use Task Manager, a message appears saying "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator". I have run scans for malware and stuff like that but nothing has been identified. I can't remember making changes myself but I do have younger siblings that may have in advertantly.

Task Manager Can't End Process

Mar 18, 2009

I haven't been able to find any information on how to overcome this problem. When a third party software decides to 'stop responding' and I choose to "Close program", the application's window is closed, but the process is still running. If I select the persistent process and click the "End Process" button, the precess does not end; and there is no way I can force-close the process - except to restart the computer. I am currently using Vista Ultimate x64, and I'm the Administrator. I'm simply referring to processes of third-party software (e.g. Firefox,uTorrent,Opera etc...) Here's the strange thing: generally I can end any process through Task Manager, until the program decides to stop responding, that's when I am unable to end it's process.

Won't Come Down Until I Finish The Process And Start It Again Through Task Manager

Jul 31, 2009

I've had a problem with my new lap top. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium x64 on a 2.2Gh Dual core. Every time I turn my lap top on, after it finishes loading all the stuff, all of a sudden explorer.exe cpu usage jumps to 40~50% and won't come down until I finish the process and start it again through task manager. This is really annoying since I have to do this everytime it starts... I have read many threads about similar problems. Although none of the solutions have worked for me so far...

SP1 For An MVP: Update Process Could Cause After A Manual Download

May 8, 2008

I have been waiting for Windows Update to offer SP1 and it has not happened yet. I am in no rush for SP1, but am beginning to wonder if it will ever be automatically offered. Should I continue to wait, or should I manually download it from the MS site. My concern is the update process might know something about my system that could cause me problems after a manual download.

Update Process Consumes Machine And Desktop

Aug 29, 2009

We re-image our desktops with an image that was created about 12 months ago. As a result when the user logs in they have about 100 Windows updates to apply which take up the entire computer which can not be used for anything else. The update process consumes the machine and desktop with it's own screen showing update progress.

Start Window Update Blank Screen

Jun 10, 2010

I click Start, then Windows Update - nothing, it just locks up as a blank screen. It's not listed as a Program on Control Panel I've tried to download it, but it won't download. I've searched other sites, nothing helps. I restored the PC to a about month previous (5/12/2010) - nothing.I have Comcast and they replaced McAfee with the Norton Suite and that is what I'm using, not Windows protection software. Could that affect the use of Windows Update?What would you recommend?

Java Update Icon Appears In Task Tray

Mar 30, 2008

Shortly after installing Vista Service Pack 1, I discovered an icon in my task tray that urges me to update Java. I am a user only. Don't even know or care what Java is unless it's needed on my pc. I don't do games or other resource-intense stuff like music. I do do a lot of photos, Word docs, and financial things. Do I need this update, and if not, how the blazes do I get it off my task tray?

Recent Update Causes Programs To Stop

Mar 26, 2010

running Windows Vista Business x64 with Service Pack 2. A recent update has causes programs to freeze and require a restart, the main one is Windows Explorer where I get an error message that says "Windows Explorer is not responding" and I can either restart, close, or wait for program to respond. Restarting works fine but will happen again. If I restore the system back before the update then it works fine until the update is downloaded and installed again.

Shutting Off Windows Update Didn't Stop The Freezing

Apr 21, 2009

Pretty much from the word go Vista was locking up hard. Its response to pretty much any problem it encounters is immediately freeze and be unrecoverable. It's not all random and without pattern, however. Initially it was clear that Windows Update was causing an issue. Shutting off Windows Update didn't stop the freezing, but it prevented the system from freezing 100% of the time minutes after the OS loaded up. Trying to update manually did the same thing. I eventually discovered that there is a temp folder I can delete related to updates that will stop this problem, but it only works for a day or two before it goes back to freezing.

Oh, but that's not all... I've been able to figure out a number of specific things that can cause freezes over repeatedly doing them... Sort of. For example:

* If I start up Google Chrome or Firefox within 5 minutes of getting to the desktop, there's a good chance I'll freeze on some random web page.

* A video player made my system freeze. A flash one. One I'd run perfectly fine before. I went to the page, freeze. Restarted. Went back to the page, immediate freeze. Stopped going to that page... Next day that page and that player worked fine..........

Taskbar Manger Did Not Consistantly

Jan 26, 2009

When I right click on the taskbar and click on the notification area, then under Icons I click customize I notice this weird inconsistency. See the Icon symbols (like the green grid you get for you task manager) did not consistantly match the titles. Like the green grid would be with both Task manager and with Antivira - Antivirus. This seems like a small little problem and it very well maybe but it keeps on bothering me.

Dell Inspiron 530 Not Showing Networking Device Manger

I have been asked to look at a problem with a computer at our local social club. It's a Dell Inspiron 530. It was not showing anything to do with Networking in the device manager so I went to the BIOS and enabled the network.

When I restarted Vista this time the network device was showing in the device manager but that there were no drivers installed for it. If I can manage to locate the Vista installation CD would that help me to get it working? If I cannot locate the original CD would it be okay to use my own CD instead?

Rouge Process I Cannot Get Rid Of.

Mar 23, 2008

C:UsersUserAppDataLocalTempFLBPKKMMZXYZ.exe

This rouge process is listed is Services. I have managed to Disable it, however I'd like to remove entirely. I found it in the Registry, but I cannot find a way to remove it. I've done everything I know even in the Safe Mode and it will not let you delete, modify or whatever.

It has no Dependencies listed, the Service and Display names are the same "FLBPKKMMZXYZ"

When running Regedit I ran it as Admin, I tried to set permissions on the
Branch and was denied. Here is how it's listed.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001EnumRootLEGACY_FLBPKKMMZXYZ000]

"Service"="FLBPKKMMZXYZ"
"Legacy"=dword:00000001
"ConfigFlags"=dword:00000000
"Class"="LegacyDriver"
"ClassGUID"="{8ECC055D-047F-11D1-A537-0000F8753ED1}"
"DeviceDesc"="FLBPKKMMZXYZ"

The one thing I did do before trying to remove from it the Registry was
delete the file from AppDataLocalTemp. Could this be preventing me from
removing the Registry entry? I wouldn't think so, but it may be the first
time in my life I was wrong.

32-bit Process And Open Program, Nothing Happens

Feb 21, 2009

so this is the weirdest error ever. I installed SlySoft Virtual CloneDrive, as well as an update to Comodo Internet Security. Both installers wanted me to install an unsigned driver, then for me to reboot. After I rebooted, I could not open any 32-bit programs. I have no clue why. I uninstalled Virtual CloneDrive, but I still cannot open 32-bit programs. It's so weird, I can open 64-bit programs just fine, but I try to open a 32-bit program, nothing happens. If I boot into Safe Mode, I can open 32-bit (and 64-bit) programs, but I cannot open 32-bit programs normally.

Since I can run 32-bit programs in Safe Mode, I think it is a driver issue, or something that Safe Mode does not load that Vista does normally. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know a fix?

VISTA Shrink Process.

Apr 18, 2009

I don't know where to start At the beginning I guess which seems like ages ago but it was only a few hours ago Okay, I wanted to shrink my 650gig C drive down to 85 or so. I read a tutorial on the net about how to do it and they said that you could do it by defragging with Perfect Disk, defragging the System Files with it, and then performing a few other steps which would allow you to shrink C to a lot smaller than the 350 gigs it was originally allowing me to do.

The steps were to turn off hibernation and delete the files, turn off system restore and delete files, and turn off the page file.Then perform a defrag and then a system file defrag on boot up, then shrink.

I did this and then repeated the "rinse, lather, repeat" about 3 times to get my C drive down to 85 gigs and leave the biggest part of my 750gig HD for archiving only. Seemed like a good idea at the time So the Shrink process went well. Each time I did a System File defrag with Perfect Disk, figuring that each time the drive shrunk, it could move the MFT file a little closer in thus allowing for more shrinkability. It seemed to work.

After I got C drive down to 85 gigs, I immediately restarted and re-stored my page file settings to "let Vista manage" it, and re-started System Restore and created a new restore point.

But when I re-set the page file I got the message: "Another page file exists, do you want to replace it with this one?" I said, sure, why not? I have a feeling I should have said no. But I moved on NOW I had a 600 gig unallocated section that I needed to format to NTFS. But Vista Disk Mgmt said I could not format it because I already had the limit of 4 partitions:

1. The EISA drive
2. OS C drive
3. Recovery Drive D - came with the Dell
4. Rip Process Download R - I created with Paragon Partition the other day
then
5. Unallocated - the partition I just created by shrinking C drive with Vista

I knew there was a limit on the number of partitions you could have, which is why I fired up Paragon Disc Manager, which is supposed to do this kind of thing...........
