View 4 Replies View RelatedThis has to be the most confusing and difficult set up I've seen.
In VERY simple terms, how do you set up the blasted "server address" in order to send mail? I received all the spam they sent me just fine, but when I try to send mail, I get nothing but error messages about the POP server address.
I looked in these threads, and every answer seems to be using words and terms you need years of computer training to understand. I don't have that training, I'm merely an intelligent person trying to set up my email account.
So how do you enter or correct this stupid business about POP3 servers and so on?
I got the information from my ISP, they gave me two lines,
outgoing mail, (SMTP):SMTP.comcast.net
incoming mail, (POP3):mail.comcast.net
I tried to enter this stuff in the fields, but it still won't work, this whole setup process is VERY complicated and impossible for me to follow.
So can somebody pleae tell me, in simple plain english, what is the exact procedure you use to type in the server addresses for incoming and outgoing mail?
I need to know which incoming and outgoing e-mail server type my computer is set up on.

How can I get my email to always appear on both computers?
Also, the Windows Vista computer will only receive email, I get an error message when I try to send:

Is it just me or had vista consigned the art of the simple mouse-click to history. Why when i click on a folder does it always try to rename it ? If i wish to rename it i would right click like every othe microsoft OS ever created. Why when i click on a short cut from my desk top does nothing happen (no feedback that i have clicked) so i click again and get two (or more) application loading. Is there some where to change click behaviour without setting up umpteen user profiles with 136 sql server schemas? Most exaspereted - moving to linux - just need to convince my boss

View 5 Replies View RelatedIt has happened occasionally, but with no predictability that I can see. I change settings in control pannel / power settings / balanced to 10 min for monitor and never for computer. I check the "advanced settings" to assure that they are the same. I use balanced because that seems to be the default in the registry. I do not see the actual settings in the registry. Every so often Vista resets the settings back to 20 min for the monitor. I have looked at but it speaks of "System Settings page" - I don't know what that is. In any case, my settings have no effect and I can't get the monitor to dependably go to standby after 10 minutes.

According to the manual there are 2 memory slots accessible from the underside of the PC (Toshiba laptop), and 4Gb is OK (2 * 2Gb). I need to know what is already installed, ie 1 * 2Gb module, or 2 * 1Gb modules. Vista Control Panel (System) confirms that I have 2Gb, but not how it is arranged.

I backup my computer using vista backup. It is not an image backup since image backup is not available on OEM Vista Home Premium. I currently backup to USB hard drive. I am going to experiment with backing up to DVD RW. Is there any automatic or default security built into these backups? If someone steals my USB hard drive or DVD that contain my backups can they access all the data on them? If there is no security in vista backup, what do you recommend I do to secure my backups?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having difficulty connecting to the wireless network that my apartment building provides. I just purchased a new computer with Windows Vista. On my old computer, which had Windows XP, I had no problems. All XP required of me was to enter the password that my landlord provided to me in order to access the secured wireless network. However, now that I have Vista, I try to connect and it asks me for: 1. Username, 2. Password and 3. Log on Domain. The only information I have is the password which worked on XP before. When I enter only that, I get a message saying "Additional Log on Information Required" or something to that effect. I don't have any more information than that.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista64 ultimate SP1 and had to reactive a month or two ago because of hardware changes. Tonight I flashed my bios (only thing I did) and I was notified I had to activate Vista again! It took about 20min last time... what a pain in the arse.
I decided to attempt an online reactivation and low and behold Vista reactivated? How could this be? I installed once with the key. The second time I had to call Microsoft (in India I think) and the third validation was OK online? I don't know if this has happed to others but I thought I'd share my weird experience with the latest and greatest Micro$oft product.
I receive mail fine but keep getting the above e-mail message problem when trying to send. I have Vista loaded with McAfee.
