Upgrade Vista Reinstallation Of Xp Stopped Working

Dec 27, 2008

im new here so dont be harsh but last night i decided to format my pc, so i formated it and tried to reinstall vista, the reinstallation worked fine but then it said i had to have a old version of windows for me to activate, because its an upgrade version. i then formated AGAIN and tried to clean-install XP so i could then upgrade to my vista but during my reinstallation of xp it stopped working. this is where it may get confusing haha, after the first part of the xp install it restarts (the first part meaning where it formats and copys all the files to memory) but just after it restarts it comes up with the screen "press any key to boot to CD........" i let it go because ur not ment to boot to cd after that, but on that same screen it comes up with a few different coloured boxes on the screen and it just hangs and thats where im absulutly stumped

20 Minute Boot Time, Even After Reinstallation Of Windows

Apr 22, 2010

I'm currently experiencing an issue with a Visa Business laptop where it had suddenly been taking approximately 20 minutes to boot, after running various virus scans and checking through the boot logs I was unable to find a solution and as such decided to reinstall Windows to resolve my problem. However, I have found that even after completely reformatting the drive and reinstalling Windows Visa I am still experiencing this extremely long boot time. I have observed that the long boot time does not occur if I select to boot in to safe mode, and for a large majority of the time when the computer is booting the hard disk activity light isn't even flashing with Windows freezing on some attempts while booting.

To attempt to see if this was a hardware issue I downloaded a copy of Linux Mint onto a DVD and booted from it, as expected it booted extremely fast (for a disk) compared to Windows. Being unable to fix the problem myself I have decided to finally request help from people whom would be more knowledgable in this area than me :P To assist in finding the resolution of my problem I have included a copy of the bootlog (I have disabled the drivers that do not load and have noticed no difference in the overall boot time).

Home Basic: Reformat And Reinstallation Of Windows, Keeps Bugging

Dec 9, 2008

I have a friend with Windows Vista Home Basic on his HP laptop, he has a valid key in the back of it on a sticker, it worked before, but after a reformat and reinstallation of Windows, it keeps bugging him that it's not genuine. We tried various command prompts found online to reset validation keys or stuff like that, we passed the phone activation successfully, but still there's no change.

Starting Over After A Complete Reinstallation

Feb 2, 2010

Today, I was forced to use my Vista Ultimate installation disc to reinstall Vista - since yesterday morning, my computer was not able to get out of a loop (first going to Windows Error Recovery and then, when selecting any of the options, going to the green loading bar, where it the green bar stopped moving about 2/3 of the way, and going back to Windows Error Recovery).

The installation went smoothly enough, but I am absolutely clueless how to get my computer to roughly the same conditions it was before this fiasco. Fortunately, it would appear that all of my files and folders from before this re-installation have been saved in the folder Windows.old. However, I am at a complete loss as to how to reconfigure my Internet connection, how to restore my previous screen resolution (there are now only three options for resolution under Display Settings), and essentially getting the basics back in order.

Settings Saved Would Make Reinstallation

Sep 17, 2008

I am wanting to do a clean install of Vista Ultimate soon, I was wondering if there is anyway I can save all the settings for my Services (services.msc). I have Vista services tweaked the way I like them and having the settings saved would make reinstallation a lot quicker and easier. I know they can be exported as a TXT document but I was wondering if I can save the Registry entries and if so, where are they stored?

Visual Studios And Command Prompt-Reinstallation

Nov 4, 2009

I am relatively new at Visual Studios, and I am trying to get it to work on my vista. My command prompt displays the message "'C:Windowssystem32command.bat' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." I checked to see if the application and target were still there, but I am just not sure why it would do this whenever I would run it. Is there any way I can reinstall command prompt without messing up the rest of my computer?

The Recommended Updates Was KB940157: Windows Search 4.0 For Windows Vista For X64-systems (11,8MB).

Aug 19, 2008

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition Dutch Version, updated with SP1 and all the patches/updates until today. However, I have encountered two problems lately, that might be related. During one of the last Windows update sessions, one of the recommended updates was KB940157: Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista for x64-systems (11,8MB).

The update downloaded succesfully, created a restore point, but then during installation of Search 4.0, windows update stops and announces an update fail error:

Failed: 1 update
Errorcode: 800F0900

I've been googling this particular error code in combination with KB940157, but it doesn't bring up any entries. Then later on, I discovered that when I go into the Windows Components window (via Control Panel, Add/remove software), the entire windows stays blank (first it says "Wait a few moments..."). This only lasts a few seconds then shows a complete empty window.

Windows 7 Provides No Real Benefits: Vista / Windows 7 Are Mostly Transparent To Normal Users - Even Monster Power Users

Oct 9, 2009

I calculated that to migrate to Vista or Windows 7 will cost close to =A32000. not including my time - It will take around 100 hours. This is because many of my existing software / tools / utilities does not work on Vista and the vendors expect me to buy a new license because it is a "new product" even though it does exactly what it did before - just on a different OS. Even the products that do work have problems and glitches that have to be worked around. All this takes time MY VALUABLE time. In other words I am suffering because Microsoft want money. In the past some versions of windows were worth migrating to Windows 2000 and Windows XP were great

But most of the improvements to Vista / Windows 7 are mostly transparent to normal users - even monster power users like me. I believe Microsoft have a serious attitude problem. just wait until they take full advantage of TPM to screw even more money out of us. If I am wrong please point out a real tangible benefit that Vista or Windows 7 brings to a large percentage of users or to me. I also I can no longer buy a laptop because they only come with Vista GPU drivers (some come with buggy unsupported XP GPU drivers - great)

Windows Vista, SP2 With 2 GB Of RAM

Jul 29, 2009

I'm running Windows Vista, SP2 with 2 GB of RAM. All WU's are current. On June 23 I foolishly installed (from a pirated CD) a copy of Finale 2002 Music notation program. While the program does seem to work, I'm now having problems with his program either freezing itself (requiring a hard shutdown), freezing Windows or my computer freezing when other apps are open, like Firefox.

Finale 2002 was obviously created for OS's prior to Vista.I'd like to uninstall this program but selecting it on Add/Remove and trying to uninstall it gives the following error message: "An error occurred while trying to uninstall Finale 2002. It may have been already uninstalled. Would you like to remove Finale 2002 from the Programs and Features List". I've been selecting `No'.

The `uninstaller' file that comes with Finale 2002 does nothing when invoked.Since I created a Restore point prior to installing Finale 2002 on June 23, I tried to restore the computer but at this point I can no longer view that point. It won't show on the list of restore points, even if I show restore points older than 5 days. Has that restore point been permanently deleted? If so, is there a way to estore the computer to some date prior to June 23rd. Or perhaps there's a program I can download that will correctly uninstall Finale 2002. I looked on the internet but to no avail. I thought about just re-installing the program again but am afraid of screwing up my Registry.

Getting Bad Feedback From Windows Vista

Apr 6, 2008

I am having quite some issues with a new computer that we got for our
company's director. It is an HP Pavilion Media Center m8325f Elite. Although
it comes with Windows Vista Home edition, we bought the upgrade to Windows
Vista Business edition. Once we installed this upgrade, we started having a
blue screen every other time we reboot this computer. The error code that we
get ( 0x0C5 ) talks about a driver that got corrupted. There are some
articles in your site that suggests choosing a specific starting mode to
identify which driver is the one that tries to use a page outside its pool.

It is not even a month since we bought the computer, and now we are
having another kind of blue screen in which Windows complains about a
specific antivirus file that got corrupted.
