Reduce Clock Speed, Not "overclock" Back Up?
Mar 23, 2008
Is there something in Vista that would reduce clock speed for performance/efficiency purposes? I have new build with E6750 processor that is clocked at 2667 with FSB of 333 and multiple of 8. Which BIOS shows. However, CPU-Z, and the motherboard utility Easy Tune5 from Gigabyte, show running at 2000 with multiple of 6 -- and will not "overclock" back up to 2667. Vista device manager lists at 2667.

I'm considering a new CPU with VISTA for Small Business. To run efficiently would you recommend 3GB RAM? How about CPU processor and clock speed? Also, what are your thoughts on INTEL vs. AMD?

I click the "defragment now" and instead of freeing up a few Gbt of HD, I have now 3G Less. As soon as I hit the "defrag now" (I have always had it run as scheduled) , my HD started to reduce by alarming speed before my eyes. The defrag took hours, 4 hours, by the end, i ended up less than 10G, 7 of which came back out of nowhere the next day, but 3 did not. So I did defrag and ended up 3G Less HDS than before.

I have an inspiron 1545 with a hd 4330 with 256 mb gddr3 VRAM. I tried to extract the bios but GPU-Z said bios reading not supported i heard somewhere that pc manufacturers cuts of the read/write pins of the GPU Some gu ys told me that in some laptops the Video BIOS is a part of the main bios. If it is true what if I extract the video bios from my main bios setup file & after changing the clock speed reflash the main bios. By the way my bios version is A14

I just bought a new pc with Vista Home Premium, it came with: 1GB PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM, expandable to 4GB. I wanted more memory so I bought a 2GB kit PC2-*5300* DDR2 SDRAM, because it was on sale for $60. The 6400 speed would have cost me over $200. The salesman assured me it would work fine and I wouldn't notice any difference. I installed it when I got home and everything works great, no problems. But I still can't stop wondering if the difference in speed WOULD matter. Can anyone explain, or provide a link explaining, when, if ever, I would benefit from the faster memory. I mostly use my PC for surfing the web, email, and some photo editing.

I have Vista x64 Ultimate and I'm having internet connection issues. My laptop is the HP Pavillion dv7. My ISP tells me everything is fine on his end. I have a router (Linksys model BEFW11S4) 2.4 Ghz - 802.11b. When I connect the wire from my modem directly to my laptop, I get internet speeds of 900 Kbps. But when I use the router, the speed goes down to 300 Kbps. Is there a setting in Vista that could be doing this? According to Linksys, I should be able to attain 900 Kbps with the router. The laptop comes with a wireless adapter (Intel Wi-Fi Link 5100AGN).

i realize my CPU is kind of a weak link in my set up but i've had excellent results overclocking it until i moved to vista. I previously ran XP Professional SP3 and had the system overclock to 3.1Ghz with no issues. The CPU temp ran at full load around 39C. Before i upgraded to vista i set all system settings back to default did my upgrade and then proceeded to push my overclock again. No matter when i changed my settings to it would show only the 2.8Ghz for processer speed in system settings. According to my motherboard the bus speed and multiplier are set high enough to obtain the 3.1 overclock again but the system settings are showing it only at 2.8Ghz.

I'm interested in overclocking my rig. I just built the rig from the ground-up a week ago when I got everything in from Newegg. I figured it's time to get over WoW, and start playing CoD4/5 and Crysis, which to be honest, run fine already on my computer. But for some reason I still want to give it a try. Now since this is also the first time I've even considered this, I'm completely confused as to the best way to figure out what to do in my bios to properly overclock my cpu, mobo, ram and gpu. So here are a couple of questions:
A) If I'm already running Crysis at high settings (not sure if I had the demo at the highest or just high), should I even try to overclock my rig? (I plan on installing the Adobe suite to do some web design and flash work now too.)
B) Can anyone direct me to a site where I can find the proper equations for overclocking?
C) Can anyone suggest what they consider is the best temperature monitoring program for all of the components? I downloaded the Monitoring program from Nvidia, but it isn't working properly on my machine? The program spec's on their site name my mobo and gpu as being compatible with the program, but it will not display my gpu and when I try to select it the program crashes.

I recently overclocked my cpu from the stock 2.67 to 3.8
Bclk 194
cpu volt 1.4
Dram bus volt 1.50
Qpi/dram core volt 1.375
Temperature was fine
Which ran fine gave it a few tests (prime95) which was all good, but there was a problem with the sleep function if i did it a second time vista would not boot, i would just get a black screen, and twice when i turned the computer on it gave me a overclock failed message, if i restarted it all was good but i was unsure so now im running it stock.
i have been getting a few errors with various programs (java, call of duty 5, crysis) they have been crashing from time to time, the solution centre found a problem and gave me this message "This problem was caused by a compatibility issue between this version of Windows and a chipset in your computer. The chipset was created by Intel Corporation. The model name of the chipset that caused this problem is Intel QuickPath Architecture I/O Hub."...............

My system clock keeps changing, off by 1 hour, if it's really 6:03 it says it's 5:03. I'll change it and then the next time I reboot it may have it correct or it may have it wrong. But eventually I notice that it's back to being off by 1 hour. I am running XP Home edition with all the latest updates.
