I am very confused as to why when I install some programs like COD4 and 5 and some EA games they don't seem to show in the registry, is this normal surely if there are not in the registry somewhere then they would not function at all?

View 9 Replies View Relatedrecently i uninstalled Nero 9 only to find out that its still showing up in AutoRun and its still set as the default media player for some kinds of files. Ive tried using CCleaner as well as the Nero Clean Tool and the Windows CleanUp Uninstall Utility but have had no luck. Can anyone let me know how I can fix this irritating problem???
View 7 Replies View RelatedPossibly I should have read a few forums and tutorials when I first got my new Vista computer before downloading and installing a bunch of programs, but alas I didn't and now I have something of a mess. I have some program files installed to my user account, I have some installed to the Admin account because I couldn't install them to my user account, and now I have some programs that absolutely must be installed to the user account in order to work properly but can't be because of the whole Denial of Administrator Privileges that has been brought into the picture with Vista.
I also strongly suspect some program files got installed twice also. Maybe not, but when I configure a program in my user account (like iTunes or Microsoft Outlook) those changes are not evident on the admin account. And an outrageous amount of the space on my C drive has eaten up already, much more than I suspect I've actually installed. Basically, I would really, really love to get all of the program files onto one account, preferably the Admin account, make sure any duplicates are taken care of, and otherwise clean it up because i don't want a big sluggish registry mess within a month of owning this computer. Something like that?
I use to go into the registry to remove startup programs. Can I do that in Vista?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI purchased the Upgrade version. I have XP service pack 3 installed right now. I know there's a work around that allows the upgrade version to be used for a clean install. I was wondering if upgrading the normal way over XP will basically be the same as a clean install. Will it wipe my drive clean or will there still be remnants left such as drivers, programs, registry keys, etc? Also, if I ever wanted to do a clean install, which shouldn't be a problem legally since I own XP, would it basically be the same as doing so with the full version? Another question I have is about manually maintaining my system. I've read that Vista isn't like XP in that I don't need registry cleaners or spyware cleaners. Is this true? I have a habit of using these things frequently to keep my comp as speedy as possible.
Not much, just Auslogics Boost Speed, AVG, and zone alarm. Those are my mainstays. I also have ad-aware and CCleaner just in case. Would AVG and zone alarm still be good programs to use? I find that they do very well in keeping my system protected.I must admit, I was among those that talked about Vista like it was crap and I haven't even tried it much. It was mostly from what I've heard. It wasn't until I read that article at tweakguides.com, ( TweakGuides.com - Vista Annoyances Resolved ) about Vista that I decided to take the plunge and go for it. Made me feel like an idiot but it gave me the true info without the BS.

Win 7 compatible - have used this and deleted all 1200 entries it found. It makes a backup - been running for several hours and reboots with no probs. Also working fine so far on my Vista x64 and Win 7 x86 installs. After cleaning you need to shut the app. and reopen it for it to find it's backups. (Easy to find them by hand - it can compress them to.7z files, too ). Have used their regdefrag a lot - identical scans and results to the Auslogics and Glary versions- so use whichever defragger you already have. WARNING: not recommended to defrag registry across drives.
Currently using Vista 64 Home Premimum. Can anyone recommend a good registry cleaner? I tried PCTOOLS and it promptly wrecked my registry.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using this program to clean up my registry and it seems to work fine except the errors keep coming back. I can do a scan, clean up all the errors and then shut down and start up and I have a new 20 registry error list and most or all of the errors relate to "bad path for the value" and its windows files that seem to be at fault. I don't understand why Microsoft operating system would create registry errors on a startup, before anything has been installed etc. is RegistryBooster misleading me or what. I am running win7 but it did the same thing on vista home premium so I think the question is valid for this group.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIve been having a few problems with uninstalling some programs via the add/remove programs tool. For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!
I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.

View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen i go to start, all programs, all my folders/programs show up, but then i noticed that theres a "programs" folder within the list, and when i click that, it shows all the same folders/programs that are in the "all programs" list. but then some of the folders within the ones in the 'all programs" list, they are empty, but they show up in the programs folder in the list. i dont know how this happened and i just wanted to know how to fix this issue.

View 7 Replies View Relatedi was away for a long time so i do not know exactly what happened but the wife had let me know that the cd she had put in for my son was not playing so i aske her to look at "my computer" to see if the dvd icon was there but no. so i told her to go to device manager and uninstall which she did then restsart the computer. On restart the computer said installing driver for new hardware but it failed..have tried other ways of deleting then reinstalling but still i cannot use the cd/dvd drive..have even gone down the route of purchasning a new dvd writer but that did not work. by the way error code is" Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

I removed the hard disk connected it to a test bed and run treesize and try to explore "my documents" but telling access denied or showing it as empty.. I donot want to take the risk of doing a restore as there were important files on there..
I am going to try to run it on safe mode and see and also check the folders options as whether it is not on hidden files.
Why doesnt my CD/DVD drives show up in My Computer?! Everytime I reinstall VISTA it appears, but after a while theyre not there? And when I put XP on the machine, it never happens. Only in VISTA, first I thought theyre not supported but when I first install VISTA theyre there...then as I said...give it a month and they dont show up and when I put a disc in nothing happens and I cant even type in their location ex. What happens is that it is not showing up under "computer" and will not read any disks of course. What does work is when we go to device manager it is listed, but has a yellow warning under it. The drive did work before, but no longer does. Any ideas? He really needs the help and I did everything I could.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi've googled this issue all over, and though i've found many people with the same problem, none of their 'fixes' have worked for me. hopefully you guys can come up with something (without reinstalling vista again!) to make it work. as a note, i'm running Ultimate x64 and all of my hardware specs are more than enough and i'm pretty positive that's not the issue.
suddenly, in the middle of normal usage, my drives were no longer recognized by my computer (optical and virtual drives). they do not show up in "Computer" or disk management. they are recognized by the BIOS. i had DaemonTools installed at the time, it was the latest version; i've read that could be an issue. i have absolutely no idea how to get my drives recognized again - i've got some work i really need to get done and haven't been able to fix this............

I have checked through the drive and I do not have anything like 106 gig installed on that partition. On my c: i have 46.1 ree of 100GIG.

Looking around the modern internet all the newer registry cleaners are for sale only.
The one had was terrific:
cleaned the registry, uninstalled programs, etc.
I installed a new registry cleaner, RegCure I think, ran it, cleaned like 12k errors, more than I thought I should have, turned off my computer and went to bed. I come back and its acting like windows 2000!
None of the services are working, I can't access the backups I made, and I can't use the system restore because the host program wont respond, or something I ran safe mode and got SOME of the drivers working again, as I thought I would, so it sort of seems my computer has amnesia Does anyone know how I can get more services to work without
reformatting my computer?
