I have Vista without sp1 and installed the updates of 2007/2008 and I don't see the sp1 in WU. How does it show? How do I check if I have sp1 installed? I do not want to download the 434MB standalone pack, is there a solution?
I just installed an additional 2gb of RAM on my system, but this is not showing in the Task Manager. It iniitally was not showing in either, but after installing SP1 Sys info was updated.
i was away for a long time so i do not know exactly what happened but the wife had let me know that the cd she had put in for my son was not playing so i aske her to look at "my computer" to see if the dvd icon was there but no. so i told her to go to device manager and uninstall which she did then restsart the computer. On restart the computer said installing driver for new hardware but it failed..have tried other ways of deleting then reinstalling but still i cannot use the cd/dvd drive..have even gone down the route of purchasning a new dvd writer but that did not work. by the way error code is" Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
When I connect my Epson CX3200 printer to a PC with XP o.s., I can see the ink levels in the properties window. Wen I connect to a PC with Vista o.s. I am unable to view any ink levels.
I have a laptop running vista and all my documents and pictures and music folders are showing as empty.. I removed the hard disk connected it to a test bed and run treesize and try to explore "my documents" but telling access denied or showing it as empty.. I donot want to take the risk of doing a restore as there were important files on there..
I am going to try to run it on safe mode and see and also check the folders options as whether it is not on hidden files.
Why doesnt my CD/DVD drives show up in My Computer?! Everytime I reinstall VISTA it appears, but after a while theyre not there? And when I put XP on the machine, it never happens. Only in VISTA, first I thought theyre not supported but when I first install VISTA theyre there...then as I said...give it a month and they dont show up and when I put a disc in nothing happens and I cant even type in their location ex. D:/ WHY?
My friend is having an issue long distance and can't see what's going on but is having a problem His DVD drive is not working. What happens is that it is not showing up under "computer" and will not read any disks of course. What does work is when we go to device manager it is listed, but has a yellow warning under it. The drive did work before, but no longer does. Any ideas? He really needs the help and I did everything I could.
i've googled this issue all over, and though i've found many people with the same problem, none of their 'fixes' have worked for me. hopefully you guys can come up with something (without reinstalling vista again!) to make it work. as a note, i'm running Ultimate x64 and all of my hardware specs are more than enough and i'm pretty positive that's not the issue.
suddenly, in the middle of normal usage, my drives were no longer recognized by my computer (optical and virtual drives). they do not show up in "Computer" or disk management. they are recognized by the BIOS. i had DaemonTools installed at the time, it was the latest version; i've read that could be an issue. i have absolutely no idea how to get my drives recognized again - i've got some work i really need to get done and haven't been able to fix this............
I searched the forums, but i haven't seen any problem such as mine. I first saw it with the Help and Support program, but it has also appeared in Combat Arms (game) and in Internet Explorer. See attachments to see what i mean. If you need any further information, just post what.
I have a windows 7 Samsung NC110 with 240gig HD and 1 gig of RAM. I have noticed that my D: is showing that i only have 10.7 gig free of 117GIG. I have checked through the drive and I do not have anything like 106 gig installed on that partition. On my c: i have 46.1 ree of 100GIG.
When I delete a file the icon of the bin doesn't show me that the bin is full, as it used to show. Also at the specific moment the "empty recycle bin" command is gray and doesn't give me the option to empty the bin. When I right click and "open" the bin, automatically the icon becomes full again!
I wonder why this is happening! It is the first time as a long time user that I face such a weird problem.
I have to tell that I checked my pc for virus, malware and ad-ware and it is clean.
I have installed 8GB of this Corsair XMS2 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C5 800MHz Dual Channel Kit : novatech.co.uk : CSR-X644G5
Everything was fine and it showed as 8GB memory however now its showing as 7.25GB I have not changed any settings within windows and the BIOS. Any ideas what would cause this?
Is anyone else having problems installing this speific KB937287 update? I am unable to get it to stop showing up in my 64-bit Vista UE's Windows Update even though it was a success. All other today's updates were fine except one (KB937287 failed) and then rebooted, but now KB937287 keeps showing up even after successful installs.
I m trying to reinstall windows vista and when im trying to delete all the partitions, it still shows that i have 3 unpartitioned space in which 2 unpartitioned space are empty without any space and i cannot delete them. However, i can still install windows on the 1st unpartitioned space which is of 160 GB.
Every one of my new or saved emails is showing up as an attachment? The To, From, Subject and date are correct. They are all displayed correctly when I open the attachment. They all have this format: ATT0000XX.htm (XX.X KB)
The problem I am having is in the start menu the recent documents bit is not showing any more. I can enable it and it does show up, but when I reboot my computer it disappears again. I go and right click the orb and click properties and I see that the check box for "Store and display a list of recently opened files" is unchecked again. I have not tweaked my system and the only thing I have installed lately was Firefox 3 rc3. I have got IE7 as my default browser. I am at a loss. I know this is a small problem, but it was handy to have the list of recently opened files to hand.
I deleted something and could not find it in the recycle bin, and it shows 3 items in there, but when I empty the recycle bin, it said 6 item deleted. So I guess my recycle bin is not displaying all the item?
I have Wise Registry Cleaner installed and for some reason it keeps finding the same entries again, I delete them every time but they keep showing up when I do a scan.
I ran the Windows update on close last night and today my system will not re-boot, my bios cannot see my SATA2 HDD. I have tried repair in windows but no good as HDD is not there. I have tried swapping the SATA sockets etc but they all say none detected. I tried MOBO jumper reset with battery out. The HDD is spinning so the power is working.
When I go to a folder and do a right mouse click and go to properties it will show me the number of files I have but not the number of subfolders. How can I find out how many subfolders I have?
I use Vista x64 and I browse my explorer windows in the 'List' view. Just recently (well, today actually) my main music folder has decided it will not shorten the file names (limit the amount of characters shown) and is showing the full length, which means I am only seeing one column until I scroll along to the right as some names are LONG. This is very annoying. It doesn't do it in any other view mode and it doesn't do it if I open a different folder (they're shorted with the '...' at the end), and yet directly or indirectly as soon as I open the music folder they are full again. As I wrote earlier I've tried the different 'view' modes and putting it back does nothing, so I'm perplexed why it's happened and how I can fix it.
ETA: Oh, I have to say it now seems like every folder's doing the same thing, and if I right click the 'Name' tag, go to 'More' and select the width for columns it does not save when I exit the folder and re-enter. This is how it looks now: and this is how it used to look, and how it temporarily looks if I switch the view to medium/large/extra large icons and then back (although as soon as I refresh the window, close, etc it reverts back): I did once use a registry edit to stop Vista changing the folder view due to folder content (I think this was it here, not sure), but I don't think that has any impact on this.
I have a 1 TB external HD that is broken up into three partitions. For some reason, only two of three partitions will appear in Windows Vista. When I had it connected to my now out-of-commission desktop which ran XP, all partitions showed up and were accessible with no problem.
Can anyone offer any insight as to what's causing this and/or how to fix it? As luck would have it, my entire music library is on the one partition that won't show up, so I've been unable to access my music since my desktop has been down.
I have a few problems at the moment but think most will stem from this. My C: drive is partitioned at 10gb (Disk Managament shows 10gb). Windows Explorer & the driver Properties windows however are only showing 1.00gb capacity & 0mb free.
This may be the cause for me not being able to run downloaded files from the internet & files from an external source (CD Drive). I have tried the usual methods of defreg, disk clean up, resize shadow storge & running Windows Defender (Which is now giving error messages too) & none of these seem to have fixed the problem. There are a few other things I've tried too, but wondered if anyone has come across this before.
I have a system running 32-bit Home Premium and noticed that when I open "My Computer" it shows two floppy drives - A: and B: - even though my system only has one floppy drive (and there's only one showing in BIOS setup). I tried uninstalling drive B:, but the next time I booted, it was reinstalled. I then tried uninstalling both floppies -- when I rebooted, the system promptly reinstalled A: and B:. Any suggestions on how to correct this? It's not a critical problem, since I have only used my floppy to boot hard drive diagnostics, but it is becoming a major irritant.
Posts I make in this newsgroup are not showing up on my computer. I think I had this problem once before, but can't remember the fix. If I go to "microsoft.windows.public.vista.general" in Internet Explorer = my posts are shown there.
I have set several folders on my Vista machine to share, turned off Password Sharing (couldn't see anything with it on), set file sharing to on. In fact everything in the Network and Sharing Center is on except Password Sharing. Bit my Laptop can only see the public folder and an external drive I have setup to share on my Vista machine.
So I just bought my 2nd Evga 8800gt card Superclocked Edition. I tried running SLI with it and when I enable SLI, I'm only getting 10 fps on 3dmark06. When I disable SLI, I'm getting a much higher fps running just 1 card. Is it some bug with Vista x64? Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? I've tried everything from reinstalling the drivers to reinstalling the cards themselves. Both cards show up in my device manager and both are bridged. I can't figure out why this is happening.
