recently i uninstalled Nero 9 only to find out that its still showing up in AutoRun and its still set as the default media player for some kinds of files. Ive tried using CCleaner as well as the Nero Clean Tool and the Windows CleanUp Uninstall Utility but have had no luck. Can anyone let me know how I can fix this irritating problem???

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy uncle bought a brand new computer in Nov 2008. He set it up with a log in name and password. He forgot his password and gave up trying to log in, put the laptop away in a box and ignored it til now as he wants to use it now.
He tried for hours to crack his password, trying everything that he thought it could be, but still no joy. He then went on my computer and downloaded something called "killdisk" ( then transferring to his comp via CD) believing that this would basically restore everything when booted up. However whenever he turns his comp on now, it says " insert a bootable disc...." and wont load anything up ie windows vista! He then downloaded a "windows vista recovery disc" from a website that now, when the comp is turned on takes him to " intall windows" He types in the 25 digit product key but is told "windows cannot open the required file D:/ sources/ install.wim. The file does not exist. Make sure all files for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070002"
So he then clicked " repair your computer" where he is asked to select an operating system to repair.... however there are no operating systems to select! Does this mean that he has unintentionally deleted or uninstalled windows vista? If so, is it possible to get it back? Can he download something, or transfer vista from my laptop or what? Sorry, I know this is a large post but I wanted to make sure all the info was in.
I've searched for similar cases and so far I've performed the following to try and solve the problem, all in vain though.
*Uninstalled/Reinstalled Video/Audio drivers
*Rebuilt Index
*Stopped using Aero
*Taken battery out....
It should be noted that the computer runs fine in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with networking. The computer freezes randomly into the session, when starting up in normal mode, it freezes within 2-5 minutes. When in diagnostic mode with only microsoft services enabled, it last maybe 10-15,20 minutes. It lasts around 30 minutes with windows audio off, but who knows what thats about. The freeze usually is sudden, I'll be typing or performing a task like deleting something, or adding a song to my music library and it'll simply stop working, the start menu will work (except in aero, the start menu and task bar freeze also) but I can't open anything, and eventually the blue circular pointer pops up and everything including the start menu and right click stop working.
I use my computer for home recording and music, so I do download alot, although, my virus scanners aren't detecting anything. It should be noted though, that I can never run a full scan, because the computer freezes before it can ever get through. My laptop screen is broken, it broke perhaps a month after I got it, from my own negligence, but it was working fine after that, I just hooked up an external monitor. In December my friend gave me a copy of Cubase, upon trying to install it, the computer experienced a serious slow down, so I removed it, and downloaded BitDefender to see if I could find a problem. After installing bit defender and trying to run it the computer ceased to last in normal mode for more than 5 minutes, and I've been in safe mode since then, although, that could be coincidence. It should also be noted, sound works in safe mode for me? The plastic lining for my line in and microphone ports are also cracked, but thats just general wear and tear I believe, and shouldn't affect my computer this much should it?
All my problems started after I unistalled a trail version of McAfee. I am using Vista Ultimate 32-Bit. Please don't tell me to phone Microsoft, because I'll just end up losting my temper with them. I don't see why I should have to pay for support, Microsoft have lots of money already.
Internet Explorer 7 is not displaying Flash or JavaScript. I have the latest version of Flash and JavaScript is enabled. Firefox works perfectly, the problem is just in Firefox.
The sidebar has stopped displaying gadgets. The sidebar will open but gadgets will not work...........
I just installed an additional 2gb of RAM on my system, but this is not showing in the Task Manager. It iniitally was not showing in either, but after installing SP1 Sys info was updated.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIve been having a few problems with uninstalling some programs via the add/remove programs tool. For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!
I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi was away for a long time so i do not know exactly what happened but the wife had let me know that the cd she had put in for my son was not playing so i aske her to look at "my computer" to see if the dvd icon was there but no. so i told her to go to device manager and uninstall which she did then restsart the computer. On restart the computer said installing driver for new hardware but it failed..have tried other ways of deleting then reinstalling but still i cannot use the cd/dvd drive..have even gone down the route of purchasning a new dvd writer but that did not work. by the way error code is" Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. Why doesnt my CD/DVD drives show up in My Computer?! Everytime I reinstall VISTA it appears, but after a while theyre not there? And when I put XP on the machine, it never happens. What happens is that it is not showing up under "computer" and will not read any disks of course. What does work is when we go to device manager it is listed, but has a yellow warning under it. suddenly, in the middle of normal usage, my drives were no longer recognized by my computer (optical and virtual drives). they do not show up in "Computer" or disk management. they are recognized by the BIOS. i had DaemonTools installed at the time, it was the latest version; i've read that could be an issue. i have absolutely no idea how to get my drives recognized again - i've got some work i really need to get done and haven't been able to fix this............

Also at the specific moment the "empty recycle bin" command is gray and doesn't give me the option to empty the bin. When I right click and "open" the bin, automatically the icon becomes full again!

Everything was fine and it showed as 8GB memory however now its showing as 7.25GB I have not changed any settings within windows and the BIOS. Any ideas what would cause this?

I m trying to reinstall windows vista and when im trying to delete all the partitions, it still shows that i have 3 unpartitioned space in which 2 unpartitioned space are empty without any space and i cannot delete them. However, i can still install windows on the 1st unpartitioned space which is of 160 GB.

I can enable it and it does show up, but when I reboot my computer it disappears again. I go and right click the orb and click properties and I see that the check box for "Store and display a list of recently opened files" is unchecked again. I have not tweaked my system and the only thing I have installed lately was Firefox 3 rc3. I have got IE7 as my default browser. I am at a loss.
