I've got a problem with WMP 11 playing .wmv files. It suddenly started to play these with distorted sound and slowed video. When I put any graphic file into the forlder with wmv file, open picture and slide to .wmv file it plays ok. I have already tried to reset WMP 11 settings with registry patch and tried /sfc scannow to no avail.

I'm don't even know if this is a Vista issue but I'm beginning to run out of areas to investigate. While playing WoW, my computer screen will freeze for approximately 3-5 seconds. Generally speaking, this happens after I've been playing for "a while". I've had it happen as soon as 30 minutes into my gaming, or as late as 3-4 hours; however, once it starts it then repeats itself with increasing frequency, reboots seems to help a little. There is no "trigger" that sets it off, I've had it happen in indoor environments, outdoor environments, 25 man raids, or by myself.
During this freeze my toon online will just stand there like an idiot. On my end, the video completely freezes but whatever sound was playing at the moment of freeze will play itself over and over at about 1/2 second intervals, kind of a machine gun effect of sound. I also get a sound from the computer case that might be the sound of a hard drive getting accessed..................
I am running Vista Home Premium 64bit SP1 and noticed that when I play and MPEG files I have no sound.I though this might be a problem with the Microsoft media player but I get the same result with anothermedia.The files used to play just fine and I do not know when the problem occurred.

I can play the files on my computer with QuickTime player, but when I try to play them with Windows Media Center on the same PC, it says "Cannot play video. One or more codecs required to play this content cannot be found." The first time I tried to play these in Media Center, it downloaded a codec first before attempting to play, but it still cannot play them. How can I make Media Center play these video files?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed Vista Home Premium onto my pc, and everything seems to be running ok, except for the sound. No matter what application I run, my sound seems to skip a lot. It's most noticeable when listening to music or TV. Various media players don't make a difference, and it acts like my pc is starving for resources. I've got a 3.2Ghz cpu w/2Gb of memory and plenty of hard drive space. 256Mb ATI video card, and Audigy sound card, but it looks like Vista makes the applications run off of the virtual memory, even when nothing else is running. Is anyone having issues like this? I've disabled services and features till I'm blue in the face. Nothing seems to help, although increasing CPU priority for the process seems to make it better, but it's still skipping.

Yesterday I wanted to use my headset to play a game, so I had to change my settings to stereo to get the sound out of both the left and right headphones. When I had finished, I changed it back to 5.1 through the control panel, but now the sound is only playing out of the left and right speakers. All speakers are functional, since when I test it through the control panel the 'bing' sound plays through all one-by-one. The speakers worked fully in 5.1 before I changed the settings. Windows Vista 32bit SP2.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have the notebook since a month and everything works fine. however, i always have that strange sound playing in vista. it happens every 5-10mins, i dont know what it it. its not caused by the hardware, but its played by vista, so to make it clear it is a soundfile. i have no clue, which software or whatever causes it. anyone, who has an idea? and no, it was already there with the original setup, it is not because of any software i installed additionally. i would really be happy, if someone knows how to stop that.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows Vista Ultimate and when I stream videos from websites like Gametrailers.com as either a Windows Media or a Quicktime file the video is choppy and has sound issues. If I download the same video there is no choppyness and once the stream is no longer on HTTP and is on CACHE it is fine. I know i have enough bandwidth for the video and under statistics I does not show any errors .I have all the latest drivers and service packs. I have reinstalled Vista as both 32 bit and 64 bit to see if there was some difference. I also have this same issue on my Laptop running Vista.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista Ultimate x64 and noticed a problem recently when playing music via windows media center. However, having played around in WMP11 also, WMP is doing the same thing so I believe the problem is somewhere in there. Initially the problem started when trying to play a collection of mp3 files off my local drive. Whether it be via an existing playlist or simply by selecting an album within WMC. The problem is that a track plays and then WMC/WMP freezes on the next track. If I skip to the next track that plays, but then the next track freezes. Sometimes the 1st track on the list doesn't play but the next will. Sometimes the 1st plays and then the next won't!
So, I closed WMC and opened up WMP directly. (This happens in both x86 and x64 versions of WMP by the way). If I create a playlist, the same thing happens a track plays, then freezes, if I skip on, the next track plays and then the next one freezes.....
There seems to be a problems with how Vista and WMP11 is looking at Video. I can go to google video and play everything in XP WMP11 but in Vista I only get sound. I have looked at many message boards and there are a lot of people having this problem. I have the most up to date version of WMP loaded, I had WMP check just now and I am current.

I installed some x64 codecs, but to no avail. The same happens on my 2nd T60p which runs Vista Ultimate 32-bit. I use the VideoLAN player, which plays back almost anything, and I also am the proud owner of a license for PowerDVD Ultra, Deluxe version. No audio problems there. I have installed Service Pack 1 on both Ultimate x64, as well as x86, and the issue is the exactly the same. Am I overlooking a small thing, such as not putting a checkmark in the right place? Is there some other kind of workaround?
View 4 Replies View RelatedVista Ultimate (non SP1) on desktop PC approved to run Vista. Vista Business (non SP1) on laptop approved to run Vista. When desktop had XP and the laptop had Vista I had no trouble sharing files/folders. Right after Vista was installed on the desktop (before a random reboot) I could share files/folders between both Vista PCs. Now I can't share files/folders. I have enabled file and printer sharing on the desktop. I have added a user to the desktop with the same "name" as the user on the laptop. Both computers are part of the same Workgroup. I have set up several shares: Music, Video, Storage (docs & programs, etc.) and can't access them from the laptop through the network share, so I also can't map the drives. If memory serves me I also allowed 'Everyone' share permission also. And UAC is disabled on both machines. The The UPNP music and video files share fine. One more thing, I am fully updated up to SP1. Unless SP1 is known to resolve this issue (I've read about this before but can't seem to fix my problem with it) I won't be installing it.

The whole codec thing is over my head and more trouble than I want to deal with. Is it a Vista thing? Are wav files no longer compatible? The old recorder program used to record and play them. Well, i previously had Combined Community Codec Pack but after viewing the thread on vista64bit codecs, i uninstalled this and used vista64bit codecs. But then i could play only media center not my windows media player. So after getting so annoying i installed Combined Community Codec Pack again.
But now i play any video, i feel the sound not in sync with the movie, as its slower then the video.
P.S : I use DIGITAL CABLE for my z680 and my supreme fx 2 sound card is just idle and not in use of my asus rampage. Also i use 9800 gfx from which a friend of mine has done audio output,
I have a laptop with Vista Ultimate SP2 x86 installed and when I try to = run a movie or music DVD from the DVD ROM there is no sound in either = Vista Media Center or Media Player. Sound works for everything else, and = the same DVD's will play fine when loged on to XP Pro SP3 X86 on the = same machine. I have tried updating the driver, everything suggested by HP support, and = nothing has worked. The only way I have been able to get sound with the = DVDs in Vista or Win7 Ultimate x64 on that same machine is by installing = the VCL, which plays the same DVDs from the same ROM fine. =20

The audio works fine for about 30 seconds and then it seems like it get distroted like people are talking slower. Im thinking this might not just be an audio problem with the driver but maybe a video problem. So I installed the newest WHQL supported video drivers. Still didn't fix the problem. Then I installed the newest realtek AC 97' audio drivers. Still didn't work. I even formated Windows Vista Ultimate x64 and did a clean install and I still have the problem.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi have bought a gateway M-1628 with a built in webcam and when i open camera assistant software program. it shows nothing the light for the webcam comes on like its on. but it shows no image at all. with the program i can record sound but no video. i uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it and still nothing. just wondering if there have been other problems. i have a Toshiba a while ago with the same program for the webcam just a little different and that one worked at first but just didn't work with messengers and later updated to work. but i can't find new updates of anything for the one i have now.

Ifran reports: width 640 height 471 bitsperpixel 32 frames 378 (25.0 fps) length 15.12 seconds actual playback is too fast at about 9 seconds (Windows Media Player) with 'chipmunk' sound. playback on the camera is 15 seconds camera manual says that in 'Std' mode it should be about 17 frames/sec. Vista Home Premium, SP1, all patches from Automatic updates. Must be something in my setup as I don't see this as common in my Google search.
View 7 Replies View Related(it's been a while since I've needed this kind of support so let me know if more info is needed) Anyways, from the moment Vista plays the logon sound there is static crackling and chirping noises whenever there is audio playing at the same time as any kind of visual change on the screen (not every screen update). For example videos on websites that play them as plugins are especially static-y. However, playing a fullscreen game (i.e. World of Warcraft) does not produce the static.
Interestingly, I have now tried two different video cards. The Nvidia and now a ATI Radeon, both have the same identical problem. I first thought that it might just be a Nvidia Issue but this is not the case. I have checked for IRQ conflicts and none exist that I can find. I have updated Windows as much as I think I can. I've tried changing Creative drivers as well.
i haven't mentioned this since i have reinstalled vista, but i have noticed that, since then, the windows experience index scores have gone down 1 or 2 points. i have installed all the latest drivers using drivermax but little performance has been improved. and it seems that the gaming graphics have let me down on wei. also, the second lowest score on wei is the aero performance. it is 4.0 on the aero because i have recently changed the theme to windows classic for better performance. i have changed back to aero, and haven't bothered the update the wei score. here is a snip of the wei score right now-. i remember the score being up in the 5's but now, it is down. just wondering if it was to do with reinstalling vista by any chance? i'm not asking for a solution-but you can give me one if u can- just want to know what is causing the laggyness. look at my system specs to see why i think my computer should have better performance.

I got Norton Internet Security 2009 and Spyware Doctor and used them both to scan my computer, solved a few viruses and that was it. I have no new programs installed,in fact, I'd removed some programs. (except for NIS 2009/Spyware Doctor(It was also slow before I got those)) It was still slow...it takes literally about a minute to open programs and about 5 minutes just to start up. Normally it would take 1-2 seconds to open programs and 2 minutes to start up. I really have no clue what to do right now and this is really pissing me off right now!

When I first got it it ran programmes like Mozilla Firefox and the Office Suite rapidly, opening the apps quickly when required. Over time programmes began to slow down upon opening. I also tried the new Windows 7 which was OK but had a few drawbacks. So I bit the bullet and re-set my machine back to how it was when it was new.
Reloaded my apps and data files, speed returned. Now it's slowing up again after only 4 months. do these proprietary programs like Norton etc actually clean up the computer and restore its trusty speed in opening apps? If so, which one have you found to be the best in practice?
im currently running windows xp home and am thinking of upgrading to vista home premium for directx 10 but feel that my computer would be slowed down to much to really benifit from this. im running e4500 overclocked to 2.9 ghz, 2GB ddr2 RAM, 320gb hrad drive, 600W psu and 3870 HD graphics card
