Pc Not Boot - Can Create Boot Cd With Another P

May 1, 2008

We just bought 2 Toshiba Satellites A200, both run Vista Home Premium. Now one does not boot. Some of the screen messages read:

"Windows Error Recovery"
"Windows failed to start."
"Launch repair (recommended)"

When we click Launch repair the screen goes to Windows Boot Manager and it reads:
"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to
your computer.

This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external usb drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or cd-rom drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer. If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.......

Create Duel Boot PC?

Apr 25, 2009

how to create a duel boot PC? I have genuine Vista Home Premium x64 and XP x64 licenses, multiple drives that I could use or partition, and a computer that can handle it, but I have never created a duel boot computer before. Currently the computer runs only on Vista Home Premium x64, and there are some programs and hardware that I would like to occasionally like to access that are only compatible with XP including a Lexmark x83 multifunction printer and Microsoft Picture It! Publishing 2001 (in addition to a couple other programs that just seem to work more smoothly on XP). I still want Vista available too for other programs too though.

Booting Up: Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media In Selected Boot Device And Press A Key

Jan 1, 2009

I went to turn it on this morning, I just had a black screen showing the following words;

Press F2 to run
Press F11 to boot menu
Auto detecting PRI Master Atapai CDROM.

It then went to reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. I went into the BIOS to change the boot order and inserted my Vista home premium 32bit. I then got windows is loading in files. After a short while I got the black start up screen with Microsoft Corporation but after a few seconds it just froze. Moments later it went to a blue screen with white writing part of which said the following; A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TI YOUR COMPUTER.

Boot Slow, Check Disk At Boot

Jun 3, 2008

Vista used to boot up very quickly. Now it spends ages on the page with the "loading" bar. Is it performing some sort of CHKDSK during this time? I only have sidebar and rocket dock starting up, and it's fast again when it gets to the desktop, it's just that loading bit takes quite an ages, and it didn't used to. Virus/spyware/malware free. How do i find out if it's doing some sort of chkdsk at boot?

Boot Failure - Dual Boot Situation

Mar 23, 2008

I have more or less completed all the driver upgrades and windows updates but I keep getting repeated boot failures of Vista. I can always get into Safe mode but in Normal mode the boot fails just after the first spash screen at the point when the screen goes blank to be replaced by the small circular Vista logo. After 2 or 3 attempts it succeeds to load but then the problem seems to reoccur, particularly when I have been back to XP for a while.

I had a similar problem with XP but that seems to have sorted itself out. I have tired looking in the logs for faults and failures but no clues there. I am running an ASUS P5E MB with Intel Quad 6600, 4Gig RAM, GeForce 8800GT and 2x250Gig HDs.

Fix Boot Logo, BOOT Screen No Works

Apr 16, 2008

This is the best install I have ever done (or was)…I did a fresh install and followed a tweak which was to very enlightening, to say the least. From there I have been to a few other sites and moved on to fully customizing my desktop/login and……well…this is where I stuffed up…My BOOT screen no longer works properly, even with the original “winload.exe.mui” file replaced.

I downloaded and used “Vista Boot Logo Generator” I loved the results on my last install…It worked well. Upon deciding to do a fresh install with Tweaking in mind, I simply coppied over a Boot logo I made previously after allowing permissions and all that as well as changing the NO GUI in msconfig…ect….BUT......

Change From Dual Boot To Single Boot ?

Mar 24, 2008

XP is on 1st primary partition [active] and is old. Vista is on 2nd Primary partition and is new. Dual boot info, I believe, is all on the XP partition. Soon I will want to go to Vista only. Do I just delete the XP partition (after imaging it, of course!) and set
Vista partition to active? (Paragon Partition Manager). Will it then automatically boot into Vista (which has no boot.ini)?

Boot Time And Boot Drive (not Listed)

Jul 1, 2008

I've had Vista x64 installed for about 2 full months now and I've recently begun having a lot of problems. One being: 187 seconds. What the hell? Before you ask, here are my specs. Lots of fast memory, a fast processor, 7200RPM boot drive (not listed), and ****ing awful performance. What gets me is that the delayed boot time is before I even see the "Welcome" screen.

My current boot time distribution:
1. BIOS does all its fancy stuff very quickly (about 6-7 seconds or so)
2. I get to my boot loader and it defaults to Vista after 5 seconds (dual-booting Vista/Ubuntu).
3. I then see the Vista loading screen (black screen with green loading bar) for about 4-5 seconds................

HP Boot Sector Not Standard Boot Sector

I've been trying to install First Defense-ISR Rescue on this computer and it won't install, it gets a -11 code and quits. The code means This means the boot sector is not a standard Windows boot sector. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. My question is, if I remove the Recovery Partition D will this change the boot sector. I have factory backup DVD's and made my own DVD's, plus I have a TI image of the drive so I'm OK in that department.

P.O.S.T. & Boot In 64??

Dec 31, 2008

Spent 2 days getting our new self-built computer up n running with i7 920 and vista 64 bit. had probs w/crashes and stuff so we have it running for 8 hours with no problems. I must admit I think vista beats xp all over the place!

Computer takes multiple tries to get it to POST and boot. (yesterday it booted great then crashed a lot). sometimes if it sits a few minutes eventually it will boot up, other times it boots slowly the first try.

bios boot order is hd first then dvd player, and when it seems to be doing nothing it does excite the dvd player every 15 seconds or so.

have run post/boot with everything unplugged except monitor but still follows the same pattern.

Where Keeps Boot Log.

Mar 26, 2008

I need to check the moment Vista stopped booting.

Booting it in safe mode I can see crcdisk.sys as the last driver loaded and the window freezes.

I cannot find any bootlog.

What Vista loads next after crcdisk.sys?

How to bypass that step?

I used already installation disk in repair mode.

Some repairs were done but that is not enough.

Won't Boot.

Mar 20, 2009

After a power failure I was unable to boot Vista Ultimate. At first I got a message that no Keyboard was detected on boot. I removed the USB keyboard that has always worked and plugged in a PS2 KB. Now I was able to boot to where it asked me if I wanted to start normal or in Safe mode. I tried Safe mode and got back to where it asked me again. This time I requested to boot into the last known working config and again it got me back to where it asks me normal or safe mode. Then I tried booting from the Vista CD and it loaded a bunch of files but then switched to a blue screen displaying the following line:
***STOP: 0x0000000A (0xC0020000, 0x00000000, 0x88B9E036)
A Vista recovery disk got me to that same blue screen.

To Fix MBR And Boot

Apr 27, 2010

I'm trying to fix Vista boot sector by "Repair" from original DVD, but bootsect and bootrec doesn't seem to resolve the problem.

Steps:
1. Backup and delete C:ootcd file
2. diskpart - select partition 1 and make active
3. bootrec /fixmbr
4. bootrec /fixboot
5. bootrec /rebuildbcd

When I start the computer it shows BIOS screen and then black screen with cursor blinking on the 3rd row. I also tried bootsect /nt60 C: but this didn't help either. Is it possible that bootmgr file is corrupted? It is interesting that it's size is around 330kb, while the one on original Vista DVD has more than 400kb. Is there difference between original Vista and SP2? Is bootmgr on a system with SP2 compatible with boot sector created by the DVD which has first version of Vista?

I ran the checkdsk, but no errors were found. If I select "Repair OS startup" (first option on the DVD) it checks the the system and says that everything is fine. I'm able to update boot sector by GRUB boot loader and start Linux, but I cannot fix boot sector for Vista.
