Boot Up: System Takes Too Long To Boot
Jul 29, 2009
i am new to this forum but i have problem with my system bootup. my system takes too long to boot and it started 3days ago. it takes about 120secs at bootscreen alone. i believe it is not my start up programs as it takes about 3 secs to start up from login page. i donot use any third party bootscreen. normally, my system boots in 30 secs but now i am facing a lot of problem which i do not understand. i have tried all the tutorials in this forum relating to bootup problems but found no luck.

at some point yesterday i restarted my notebook, and it appeared that vista froze on boot screen. after several restarts and system restores from dvd, for some reason i did nothing at an additional freeze, and after ages vista booted successfully. i tried several more times and timed approx 20 minutes of hangup during each boot.
i read around various forums, tried some things and nothing helps. to help as much as possible the people that might help me, here's what i gather's relevant:..........

I'm running a clean install of Home Premium. I basically rebuilt my computer to run vista. The problem is that when I boot, it gets past my normal boot screen (where you enter your bios options) and goes to a black screen. Then after several minutes (3-5) I get the green vista progress bar and the computer boots into Vista. Once i'm in, it's a screaming machine. Works great, I've got a WEI of 4.4. Anyone know why the boot up takes SOOOO long?

Boot from a cold start now takes about 95 seconds. Standby takes 9 seconds. Recover from standby takes about 5 seconds. Shutdown takes 24 seconds. I've already reduced WaitToKillServiceTimeout to 5 seconds, with no apparent penalty. There are no unnecessary startups, though I have not begun snipping away Services. What else can I do to accelerate both ends of the cycle?

When I launch Vista 64 Ultimate, my harddrive light shows activity for 7 to 10 minutes.
Is this normal or do I have something turned on that I can turn off? I run AVG antivirus, I'm going to check and see if it's doing a boot scan. But the disk activity is something like that....for a very long time.

I use a hp pavilion laptop with 2 gb ram and centrino1.73ghz c2d vista ultimate 64bit.
most of the times when i press power button(when my laptop is switch off or say shut down)the very "first screen" which shows hp logo, intel logo and phoenix logo along with press del and press f options remains for too long and i mean too long i.e. nearly 160 seconds.but this problem occurs 8 outta 10 times.and whenever this problem occurs , cd rom icon from "my computer" window disappears and thus i cant use my cd/dvd rom.bt when on switching on the "first screen" shows for a fraction of a second then everything works fine and cd/dvd rom appears in "my computer" window.i thought that there might be some problem in my hdd so i did a factory reset(i.e. recovery) bt to my disappointment nothing went right.the problem exists as it happened to be.

With a formated hard drive on a Dell Dimension 2350, the Vista Home Premium Install Disk took eight minutes to get to the first screen. I subsequently cleaned out all cards from PCI slots and disabled everything I could in the BIOS and got the same results.

I'm trying to run check disk but when I run it, it takes way-way too long. After an hour it was still only on 13% done, ad it was there for about 45 minutes already. At this rate, it would take about a week to go throuhg the whole disk.

I went to turn it on this morning, I just had a black screen showing the following words;
Press F2 to run
Press F11 to boot menu
Auto detecting PRI Master Atapai CDROM.
It then went to reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. I went into the BIOS to change the boot order and inserted my Vista home premium 32bit. I then got windows is loading in files. After a short while I got the black start up screen with Microsoft Corporation but after a few seconds it just froze. Moments later it went to a blue screen with white writing part of which said the following; A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TI YOUR COMPUTER.

We have to upgrade about 100 XP OEM XP professional workstations that are in a domain environment to Vista Business. Most of the workstations have a 'standard' mix of office suite software. A few may have some local data. Does anyone know about how long to upgrade an 'average workstation'' so we can budget time and resources for doing the 100.

when I install x64 XP, i have no troubles, but when I try to install Vista od Seven, both x64, installation takes ages... it does install at the end, but it just takes too long (read: 2 hours). After instalation, it continues to be slow, both of the cores are at 100%. I've search for a while for a solution, but I've found different answers for the same problem, none of them works. Is there anyone with the same/simmilar configuration and has no troubles with vista?

I have a Vista Business and a Vista Ultimate laptop. I'm trying to join a Windows 2008 domain. It takes forever for both machines to join the domain. If I let it sit it eventually does maybe 40 minutes later. Then when I log off it takes about the same amount of time to log off? It seems like it eventually joins the domain but takes a VERY long time. I don't have this same issue with Windows XP machines..

When you click shut down, Vista doesn't shut down, or do anything for that matter. If it cannot terminate all processes, in about 3 to 5 minutes it will pop up this screen that say like "this process is hanging, click here to terminate and shut down" or something like that.

my vista mail takes a very long time when I have something attached to the outgoing mail. Even a very small attachment of 9 kbytes takes about 30 seconds. I have vista ultimative 64 bit danish version sp1. I have tried to disable antivirus/firewall but it is still the same. Prolonging the servers responstime in account options to 1 minut..doesn? A mail with no attachment sends right away.

I've just formatted (twice now cause I thought maybe there was wrong with the first installation) my Vista 32 SP1 PC and put 64 on, did all the latest updates. Everything works great except my memory usages is always very high.
my internet speed is playing up real bad. I can browse and do what I want at normal speeds but as soon as I start downloading anything my internet slows down to an unbearable pace, web pages take so long to open that I have to cancel my download

I have a folder with about 142 gigs of files in it and when I open it up, it takes sometimes 15 sec. before anything shows in the folder, while the little strip across the top of the folder does its "Progress" thing. Yes, I have Indexing on for that partition (this is a partition of my main hard drive; it is a 566g partition used only for archiving and it has 126gigs left).
What strikes me as particularly stupid about this is that it does the "progress" thing EVERY time, even if I close it and open it again 10 seconds later, it does not "remember" the indexing or whatever it just did! Is there any way to fix this? Seems absolutely ridiculous to have a super fast computer that can't find files in a folder without waiting 15 seconds!

I'm using Vista Home Premium. I have a spare 250GB SATA drive, so I thought I'd install XP on that, then dual boot with my original Vista drive (AMD Athlon dual-core at 3 GHz, 4GB RAM, 64 bit Vista Home Premium...when it boots). The XP install seemed to go fine, in that the drive would boot up alone (with the Vista drive disabled). But when I plugged my main Vista drive in, the system would not boot up at all. I would get a Drive Read error. I don't get it. Both drives boot up fine by themselves, but when both are running, neither will boot. Do I need to set one drive's jumpers or something? I don't know SATA drive jumper settings, or if that's even the issue.

I am having some problems regarding booting up my Advent laptop, it came pre - installed with Vista home premium. it just wont boot up anymore all i can do is access the bios screen, the handbook it came with gives me information to press F8 to enter system recovery but sadly this does nothing, but make a beep each time i press the key. The laptop is just out of its 12 month guarantee so could be costly to repair. I wonder if any one can shed some light on what i can do to solve this problem.

I installed Vista Home Premium and got a nasty hard drive failure error. So I was going to boot from the install CD and get into the Recovery Options in order to run chkdsk on the drive. The system won't boot from CD. It actaully starts booting from the CD but after the loading files step it just boots into the installed Vista environment.

I've searched the web extensively, though I came close, I still can't solve my problem: When I've installed vista, the installation have set the boot manager to be on a different disk than the the boot loader. Now, if I want to remove the hard drive containing the boot manager, the system won't load, which is reasonable given these conditions, nonetheless I DO want to remove this hard drive and still be able to boot, therefore I've searched and queried everywhere and done the following: Physically disconnected the hard drive with the boot manager on it (d and boot with the Vista DVD to run startup repair -> this didn't help, the startup repair found the operation system but didn't recognize any problem, when trying to boot the system would not load, the error I'm getting when booting is disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart.

I am unable to boot anything on my system. I have a black screen error File: pciidex.sys. When I try to use my restore disk I get a blue screen error Ox0000C1F5. I can not get into any of the Safe modes I just get the black screen error. And I am not able to boot the recovery system using PF11. It seems the only thing I can access is BIOS. I am not worried about saving files at this point. I really just want to restore back to factory settings and avoid needing to spend the money on a new hard drive. Any advise on how to re install with the errors I am receiving?

I have 3 hard drives with assigned characters c, d, f (e drive is cd rom) each drive has only 1 partition. On c there is Vista 32-bit Ultimate, on d there is Vista 64-bit home premium. If I change location of paging file - e.g. Vista Ultimate paging on f, Home paging on c then that operating system does not boot correctly. The OS boot progress bar is displayed but system does not boot (I waited many minutes before reset).
