Jan 8, 2009All the games that i dled so far ending with the .exe extension seem to freeze up completely until i have to end task it. I tried the file on my other laptop it ran absolutely smooth.

May 19, 2007This is probably small to most people and maybe many prefer it now, but when manually renaming a file the extension is not highlighted forcing me to have to perform a second manual operation to highlight the whole filename. It is the 'rename' function but I use it to copy and paste the entire file name. Like I said it is probably a minor thing to most, but I do this many, many times a day so if there was anyway to have this function behave like it did in all previous Windows versions I would like to know how to do that.

Sep 22, 2009For some reason Vista stopped using Google Sketchup to open files with the SKP extension. (It started using Adobe Reader). If I attempt to navigate to and open the correct program (Open With | Chose Default Program | Browse) Sketchup is not added to the list of candidate programs (no error indicated -- just doesn't happen). I can open a file from within the Sketchup program or drag a file onto the Sketchup desktop icon but can't open with the correct program by double clicking the SKP file. What am I missing?

May 1, 2008For a short time I had installed pkzip. It is now uninstalled, but apparantly has left Windows Explorer as the program used to open zip files. When I click on a zip file, Windows explorer opens, closes, opens, closes ad infinitum. Only recourse is to force a reboot.
I would like to change the default opens with ... to something that works. I see that on my XP computer the recommended program for opening zip files is called "Compressed (zip) Folders". I can't find such a program on Vista. Also, the only recommended program showing up on Vista "Open With" is Windows Explorer, which I know is a disaster.I can right-click and select Extract All to work around this problem, but would like to get the Open function working correctly.

I didn't like vista to start with so i went out and bought Windows XP home to replace vista. for some reason durring setup it can find everything but my hard drives. does anyone know if i will be able to replace Vista?

Problem is, that option now only works with up to 15 files; it disappears with 16 or more. Same with the "Open With" option. This was not a problem with XP. Mar 17, 2010i m using vista home premium 32 sp2. Machine! Hp Dv6 Core 2 duo 2.10GHZ -3 GB RAM- 512MB AtI Gaming card. I have got major problems. In Windows/downloaded program files i have got a file which is damaged and when i right clicked on it. only Properties occurs! and that thing i basically got from IE's(Version 8) Tools>Options under the heading of browsing setting> and View Objects. I dont know what is the problem with my IE8 whenever i open Hp's website it wouldnt opened and for other websites it words but for a very few minutes. but after that i get the error that the webpage can't be displayed.

Dec 28, 2009I have a laptop HP DV9285ea where i replaced the Vista by Windows7 64 bit. Replacing the 2 Rams each 1 GB by 2GB (total 4GB) resulted in an error. The laptop is a 64bit processor and with W7 64bit there should not be any problem to extent the memory. Placing in one slot 2GB and the other 1GB was working properly. (3GB total)
The current Bios has version F16 while their is new version available F2D. Can the FW having any impact? The product specification gives the following:

Feb 19, 2009I just downloaded an .exe file fromt the internet and saved it to my harddrive. But I must've done something wrong in the process because when I check the location I saved it to, it shows a shortcut (.lnk) that won't do a thing if I double click on it. Is there a way to change the extension back to .exe so I can run it (it's an install program)? I've already scouted the forums and noticed you can do something with your regs, but I'm afraid that will affect other files on my computer and I'm only having problems with this particular file.

Jun 22, 2009A mate presented me with his Vista laptop, running home premium. It was stuck in the installing stage 3 of 3 loop.Under no circumstances was I to kill vista and start again. He had lost the copies of some of the programs. Jun 8, 2008I upgraded (a so-called "clean install" on same partition... it made xp pro x64 unusable by renaming various system folders) to windows vista home basic hoping that PAE would work. I had assumed that 4GB RAM would be no problem (the intel e6600 core2duo in this system supports 64bit instructions, and as a result PAE works on linux just fine) though it is not doing what I expected.
After installing Vista SP1 (came out recently) from windows update, I decided to try using BCDEDIT.EXE and set PAE to "force enable" mode... Not working as expected!!! Well, pressing [windows logo key on keyboard] and [break] at the same
