View 7 RepliesThe problem is there is a password on the bios (where this came out of i don't know) and I need to boot from CD but I cannot get in to change the order, also this means I cannot use bios clearing password tools as they are off a cd. I think the laptop holds the bios password in the eeprom and not the bios battery.I have striped down the laptop a far bit but could not find the bios battery. The problem is I am on holiday at the moment and I don't really want to strip it totally as I am in a hotel, but I really need to get this going.asap
I have tryed some default password for the bios manufacturer, but nothing. I wiped my laptop before and put on vista 64, but when I redownloaded the acer empowering support wiget(that would let me change the order their) that does not work and I cannot find anything on google about the issue. Is there any programs that can do this from windows?
I'm aware that the Sempron can be cleverly overclocked, i was wondering the best way to go about this. Whether it be best to go by the Few Bios settings im able to change or to install software to help manage. Has anyone tried with a similar system, and can share insight on what is the best settings to utilise.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am not having fun installing Vista on my new computer. At first, I did not touch any of the BIOS settings. The Install program recognized my hardware but said it was 698.6 GB which is a bit too small. There was a warning that said, "This computer's hardware may not support booting to this hard disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu".
I ignored this message and I clicked on this item in the list that showed my hard drive. There are little icon buttons at the bottom of the window. Few are enabled. One that is enabled is one that showed the "new" option. I clicked on that and an error appeared: "Failed to create a new partition on the selected used space. [Error: 0x80042453]". So I guess "new" is not the option to click on. I went into the BIOS settings.
i have recently tried to access Documents and Settings but am getting ACCESS DENIED for some reason yet i have done NOTHING to change my admin rights yet there seems to be an option for EVERYONE to access it but admin is not allowed to and it wont let me configure it that way. i have deleted EVERYONE from the properties and tried to revert to normal ADMIN user rights but it wont let me view docs and setts folder at all
View 9 Replies View RelatedI thought I would try Ubuntu on my computer. I have a Microsoft Wireless keyboard and mouse. They both worked while setting up dual boot. Once completed, Ubuntu loaded, however I didn't have a keyboard and mouse to select the operating system. They worked well once in Ubuntu. I changed the boot OS default to Vista 64 and I have access to Vista again.
The problem is that no keyboard I try allows me access to the bios. I've tried unplugging the drives as well, still with no luck. I want to repair Vista (MBR)using the disk, however can't change the boot order in the bios. Is there a way to repair MBR from within Vista?
I've read all (well most) of the posts in this thread, but nothing seems to address my exact issue of having a black screen, which means that I'm not able to access the BIOS. I can hear my laptop fan running, and every 20 seconds or so the computer powers off then reboots immediately, but nothing on the screen.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been messing around in my BIOS. Installing some faster RAM and trying a slight overclock (2.4 t0 2.7Ghz on a Q6600) and seem to have caused myself several problems. Firstly I tried to push it a bit further on the FSB- from 1200 to 1300-the system wouldn't boot and wouldn't let me into the BIOS. I eventually got round this by removing the mobo battery. I was able to get back into the BIOS and revert to my original oc. However when I booted I got a re register Windows this is not a genuine version notice. I had to 'phone microsoft and get a new activation ID. I'm now back in windows (Vista HP 64 bit) but seem to have a few left over issues. My clock was set back to 2006 and that meant I couldn't activate Gmail etc. I went back into the BIOS and reset the date but could not change the day. So it's 3.19PM on Monday the 22nd of September, 2008. I've tried everything I can think of but cannot find a way to make it Friday, which it is.
Also I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. This keeps reporting that my computer is at risk and I need to update. I've updated over a dozen times but it doesn't seem to change and is still telling me it needs to update. These are ther first problems I have noticed. I hope I don't find more. Does anyone have any advice as to how to get my day and date correct and how to convince Kaspersky it's up to date?
My gram asked me to fix her computer.... She let me little cousin try and fix it and he reset the password for whatever god forsaken reason. Now she is locked out.... I could install a second version of an os on her computer but she has almost no space left....
I have tried everything to get some sort of hint. The only thing left that i can do is reinstall everything and she said that is not an option because she has a ton of personal info on there.
I had the surprise this morning of not being able to access my PC;When I booted it, before Windows starting I got the request to enter "system password", I had never came across before. The only password that is set up is mine for the user account but I can't even access it.I tried to enter my password but the system did not recognize it. I switched off and booted again to no avail untill it says seventh attempt.

View 9 Replies View RelatedA client of mine has a Hewlett-Packard laptop with Vista Home Premium. A few days ago her husband used the computer for some web checking and did something to the computer. Neither one of them can figure out what he did, but now all her files seem to be locked or read-only. She can open a file or e-mail, but cannot edit. She was able to forward an e-mail to another computer and from that computer she could use the file. It would seem that something got pressed wrong on the keyboard and that has rendered the files uneditable. I'm new to Vista since I'm much more used to Windows XP, so I was wondering if anyone out there had any ideas as to what we can try in order to restore full use of her files.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy OS is Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit, SP1. I purchased my desktop pproximately a year and a half a go and the default Defragmenter was set to once a week for both C: and D: and I have left it that way ever since.
However (and I am not too computer savvy, unfortunately), I have read that since D: in my Vista OS is merely a locked Recovery, it should never be defragged. Is this true, and for all the time I have been defragging it weekly, could this have hurt System recovery should I ever need to use it?

When my laptop is awakened out of sleep, it should enter right into Windows, but instead comes up to a screen that gives my name and underneath my name it says *locked* --- I click on my name and then Windows opens up.
Instead, I would like to see the machine come out of sleep mode and go instantaneously into Windows.
I joined a vista laptop to a SBS 2008 domain & after logging on, I just get the spinning wheel next to the cursor & everything is pretty much locked up.
