My mouse (cursor) is very erratic - jumps all over the place without warning, sometimes disappears for several seconds. I have to chase it around to bring it back in control! It is a laser mouse. I tried another one from another computer that I know works, and I have the same problem.
View 6 RepliesI am having problems with erratic mouse movements that have occured since I acquired my new computer with Vista installed. I have tried re-installing the mouse drivers but it made no difference. After numerous attempts to download a hotfix provided by Microsoft that I thought might fix the problem (error code 40?), I eventually managed to get the hotfix installer to work only to be informed that it was not for my system!!! I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit and a Dell Premium mouse.Has anybody else experienced this problem, and would they be able to tell me what they did to fix it? As you can imagine, working with the mouse is very frustrating - forget the intricate work!!

It jumps from field to field in just about every program I use, going from left to right, just like I'm pushing down the tab button on the keyboard. I'm on a desktop and not a laptop. It makes it very hard to type or to chose options in pop up windows. It makes the scroll bars move all by themselves too. I tried updating my keyboard driver without any improvement.

I installed the mouse driver again but also the problem stays the same. It's not a virus because I checked that trough a virusscan. Is there anyone of you who knows how I can solve this problem?

I'm partially sighted, and one of the things I *still* can't suss out is being able to turn on a "sonar" feature where you press the control key and get a series of concentric circles explaining where you lost the mouse cursor. if the mouse cursor is a rather indistinct blob amid more indistinct blobs it does actually help if the one you're looking for is the one that wriggles when you tell it to!
View 5 Replies View RelatedSometimes when i watch a movie in ect wmp or streams something on the net, then my mouse cursor often goes ape :s It turns in to a thin line or either it shows up like it has been in a blender because its messed up. Normaly it fixes with a reboot or if i am lucky then i can try click around a bit or open and close folders, then it turns normal again. I have a radeon 4800 1 gb ddram and i have tryed with uniblue, ccleaner, Seach and destroy. scandisk, defrag and clear temp folders. I tryed to update every single program and drivers, but i have a clue that it could be related to codex packs.. I use K-Lite newest. I tryed to remove and install K lite over and over, but this problems is still driving me nutz.

(Vista Home Premium was already installed when i bought it) So heres my problem- I bought my comuter a couple months ago and its been working great. But a couple days ago whe i was trying to set up a webcam with software, i was told to restart my computer. fine. Though afterwards when it was booting up and after the Windows logo apeared it said Welcome and then went black with only my mouse cursor.
Im not to tech savey so i'm not to sure what im doing. Ctrl+Alt+Delete does work. Safe Mode Works also (Not really sure what to do in Safe mode though) Also im not sure if it's the new software or a malfunction in my computer but I've tried several times to restart it with no success. I've also tried a system restore with no success either.
I have a new laptop that came with Windows Vista. I recent had to format the hard drive and re-install Vista. That went pretty smoothly. Problem is that sometimes while dragging the mouse cursor across a window, Vista tries to hold the mouse cursor in the center of the window and and mouse movements scroll the window, not move the mouse cursor. How do I turn this feature off? I never want a window to scroll unless I explicitly grab and move a scroll bar.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba notebook with Vista Business installed. Recently I installed the sidebar and added the "CPU performance meter" and noticed that it was constantly in motion. Looking at the Performance tab in task manager, I see that the CPU(s) (dual core) are very priodically show spikes. Every 4 to 5 seconds, the usage jumps from perhaps 10% to 70-80 %, and then goes back to 10%.
The laptop shows this bahavior over long periods of time, even if no application is running. Looking at the processe that are running, it appears that one of the "svchost.exe" (of which there are quite a few) seems to be the culprit, but I have no idea what is behind it. How do I find out what this process is actually doing? Can I simply end it to see what happens, or will that harm my laptop?
This has been going on for quite a while but its getting to severe points. What's happening is basically explorer.exe jumps straight to 95-99% when vista boots and remains like that without budging, resulting in extreme slow computer performance. Attempting to close the explorer then restarting will temporary bring it back to aroung 50% but it will soon jump up again, restarting doesnt work.
Here's the stuff Ive tried to do:
1- Got rid of the index.dat files in the TIF, apparently they slow performance.
2- Turned off search indexing
3- Tried to defragment the memory, but it doesnt do anything!
The weird thing is that it jumps to 99 without having anything running which implies that there is a background process thats eating up the CPU!

Restarting explorer.exe or the computer temporarily fixes this problem until all memory is used up again. The problem can be reproduced with folders containing MPEG-2 clips. Other file types do not seem to trigger this behaviour. I would like to ask you to Google for FileCopy/progressbar problem and see how Earth is filled with us - morons. My progress Bwr keeps dancing left & right, calulating time remaining (always lying by a huge marging unlike WinXP), but it's not too important. Important is that data transfer rate jumps from 16Mbps down to KBs periodically as it scans thru multipel files. All it can fast is copying a SINGLE large file, even that estimating time remaining and progress bar are not as good as in WinXP
This is one of the 500 admitted bugs Microsoft admits to in Vista and its a beauty. I hate to keep harping on the same point, but it makes absolutely no sense to me how such a basic function not just gets screwed up, but WHY Microsoft would ship Vista with such a obvious bug in it. It totally trashes their reputation. Oh wait, we're talking Microsoft. We know their reputation. Ship and fix later. Everybody knows whatever version of Windows we're talking about WAIT for the service pack before most of the bugs are out.
I have a problem that I can't figure out how to fix. I have this new Acer
laptop with Vista. When I try to type the cursor just suddenly places
itself in the middle of a previous line. For instance I will be typing and
all of a sudden the middle of "sudden" will insert itself 2 lines up. I
tried updating the touchpad driver but it still does it. Any hints? I have
heard of another person who has the same problem and never found out what
causes it.
I just installed the latest drivers for the graphics card in my laptop, and when I restarted my computer, my cursor became invisible. I can move the mouse and still hover over links and click on things, the only thing is that I can't see the cursor. The cursor moves when I move the mouse, but I can't see it moving...its invisible somehow. Everything worked fine up until I installed the new graphics drivers.

For example, in MS Paint when drawing lines the "precision" cursor is used which looks like cross hairs. Instead of lines starting from the center of the cross hairs it starts above and to the left (which is coincidentally where the point of an arrow cursor would be). I have similar issues in adobe elemens where precision is needed.

Also, when I boot up, my password is sometimes rejected two or three times even though I am being careful in typing. Sometimes I have to click on a link three or four times before it works. My machine is a Packard Bell desktop with 32-bit OS Vista plus SP1.

The only recourse it to stop it either from task manager or repeatedly clicking the close icon. Vista 64 Home Premium SP1 Intel Core duo E750, Nvidia Geforce 8800 4 gig ram.
