when I am typing an email it seems that I can only type so much and then my curser jumps backwards into another part of what I've typed. It's done it four times now as I am typing this. Is it mail? Is it something else?
My computer jumps backwards on most applications. I thought it was internet explorer, but it happens even when I'm using Word. It acts as though I clicked on another area with the mouse when I didn't...most of the time I am not even touching the mouse.
when I try to start up my computer (hp - with vista), it goes straight to a black screen with a white arrow curser (which I can move around). The screen saver will come on after a few minutes, but when I touch a key, I get back to the same blank screen. Alt-Ctrl-Del does nothing. I have tried rebooting in safe mode, and I still end up with the blank screen. I do not have have the Windows CD (pre-installed when I bought it), and my CD drive is not working anyways (been broken for a few weeks).
I have installed Windows 7 beta but I don't like many of its limitations. I have a Vista installation that might benefit from an upgrade to Windows 7 but I'm not sure. If I use my Windows 7 beta install DVD to upgrade Vista, can I go backwards if I don't like it?
Recently I had to replace my motherboard AND hard drive, so my computer was basically wiped of everything. I saved the files that I could, and moved them, and they work fine. Before this, the sims 2 (and the EP's that I had for it) all worked perfectly. The problem now is that I do not think DX10 is compatible with TS2, despite the fact that "directx 10 is backwards compatible" (which it does not appear to be.) From what I understand, I cannot uninstall DX10. THis is a little ridiculous; no directx software came with my computer, and I had to install it. DX10 is supposed to have all of the DX 9.0c updates, but what if it doesn't? Is there a way or a place that I can put DX 9.0c files into DX10? Is there some way that I can check the DX10 files to make sure what I need is there? IF those are failed options, is there a program that I can install which will uninstall DX10 so that I can install DX 9.0c?
I am having a keyboard problem on the new computer. My keyboard [Logitech Cordless Desktop Comfort Laser] does not work when I run Vista Ultimate x64 normally. Every time I try to type in IE or Firefox, the program stops responding and then I restart the program and it yields the same results. I know the keyboard is not defective because I am using it right now in Safe mode and it is working fine. I have downloaded the Logitech Setpoint App. 64 bit version but there still is not any luck.
I have been using a ps2 keyboard with no problem for months now. I have recently purchased a USB keyboard Eclipse II by Saitek. The keyboard is detected and usable in the Bios configuration buy when I get to the loggin screen in vistax64, it does not work anymore.
Saitek website says it should work with the default windows generic keyboard config. But my computer detected it as a Human Interface Device (Saitek Eclipse II) and asks for drivers? It does showed connected in the USB hub. Can I force it to use the generic windows drivers? Can I download some other drivers? The keyboard is basic with some fancy lights
I have a Dell 9400 series with Vista Home Premium Edition, and the mouse and keyboard are not working. I tried to change ports, wait until the system is up to plug them in, but nothing. I can not use F8, because the keyboard is not working. What can I do , please suggest, I do not know what to do.
I recently spilled something on my Microsoft intellitype pro natural ergonomic 4000 keyboard and, after letting it dry and all that stuff, it started to mess up the keyboard keys. Now, "f" types both "f" and "space" and vice versa, "o" brings up the "My favorites key assignment screen, "5" or "." brings up both a "5" and "." together and finally, maybe the worst, "comma" brings me to the last page I visited. (luckily, as I was typing this, I also found that the page is always exactly as I left it, so all the words I struggled to type so far are still there when I go forward in my browser history.) Now I play a lot of FPS games on this computer and this is very very irritating to me. Is there any way to fix this without buying a new keyboard all together? And here's what typing looks like for me without any editing: F or fgoodnessf sakes,f If thinkf myf keyboardf isf broken5.5.5. andf rememberf everyf "O"f goesf tof thef f avoritef f keyf listf andf everyf commaf goesf tof thef lastf pagef If wasf on5.
I'm sorry if this thread has already been sorted but I can't find an answer to my particular problem. I changed my keyboard and loaded the keyboard driver and since then the keyboard or mouse will not work. I switch on the pc it boots ok but as I said KB or mouse will not work. I shut down via power switch to force the pc to ask "start normally, safe mode etc" at this point I can use the keyboard, I then select any of the above, allow the PC to boot, and same problem.
I have tried to "Repair" with Vista disk but I have a Reminder program that is "ontop" so cannot get access to the Repair window because --- thats right KB and mouse will not work. Can you give me any help please on how to access the control panel, as I feel sure that if I remove the KB driver all will be ok. I have connected the KB for which I loaded the driver no go. Replaced KB with a no frills one, no go. I was using a wireless mouse originally and have changed that also to a basic one.
why [question mark] because they are not workin, when i push the left one it does this kLJFS; but puts it way back at the beginning of whatever i was typing and turns on my caps and when i push the right one it does this ][iOURW! and if i had words in front of that [i had to do that in another program to make it nt erase all this] it gives me this W! and erases a bunch of stuff infront of it. this is really driving me nuts and i cant figure this out, i cannot unplug the keyboard because this is a laptop. i just bought this laptop like 3 days ago and it has been working wonderfully up until now.
I dont know if im posting in the right area or if I should even post here with vista 32bit but im desperate to get this fixed. ok While I was trying to uninstall the drivers for my Zune I accidentally uninstalled my mouse and keyboard drivers as well. my USB mouse and keyboard work on startup but as soon as vista boots the mouse no longer recieves any power. I cant logon to any users because theres no way I can click on a user.
My computer was purchased a month ago, and the keyboard just stopped working out of nowhere. I tried two USB keyboards, and two PS/2 keyboards. I saw on other forums, the suggestion to reboot the computer, which is what i decided to do. As i was rebooting, it had frozen, and i had no choice but to turn it off. Now when i turn my computer on, i get a message saying Bootmgr is missing, press alt+ctr+delete to restart. My keyboard still wont work so i cant. If i put in the reboot or any kind of CD, it just goes straight to the error message.
Going to try to keep this short and sweet given that I am having to use a combo of the keyboard on my notebook and the on screen keyboard. Certain keys are not workng right. I tried changing the kboard language in the control panel and that didn't work. I checked on my manufacturers website for a driver but i don't know which driver is for the keyboard. I have an Acer Aspire 5610. The keys with the problems seem to be what the right hand would normally typing
I just converted to Vista Enterprise with and IBM laptop and docking station. I keep losing my external IBM keyboard, 3 or 4 times a day. If I pull out the USB plug and put it back in to reset it my keyboard starts working again. I've updated the latest driver on the IBM website but still have the problem.
i downloaded a gaming addition of windows xp so i can play games like crysis while still having vista i put it onto a disk restarted my computer went into bios set it to disk restarted it loaded installed then it started installing my keyboard and mouse after that it stopped working everytime so i couldnt do anything else at all i tried this 6 times before i finally gave up so i went back into bios to set it to hardrive but it still loads XP not vista i tried putting the vista disk in then loading from disc IT STILL LOADED XP i cannot get onto my vista os, i also can't get onto xp because my keyboard and mouse stop working.
I need to get wife, who is bedridden with progressive MS, a laptop so she e-mail and skype with her friends. It will also keep her brain stimulated and away from watching tv all day. I was looking at one from HSN for $699 a Gateway,15.6,AMD Athlon II Dual Core,4GB ram, 320HD,Blu-ray Drive, and webcam but today I saw a Toshiba 15.6, Intel Core i3 proceesor,4GB ram, 320HD,webcam & micorphoneWiFi 802 for $699-$150 Instant savings at Fry's. I am looking for your input as to what is the better of the two or do you recommend something else. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard if she has trouble with her hand/eye coordination.
I have an Acer Aspire 3100 Laptop with the Windows Vista OS, AMD Sempron processor, 80 GB HD, 512 MB DDR2 (I can?t give any other info due to the fact that I can?t use the computer at present and don?t have any of the paperwork because I am currently out of the country); I?ve had it about 8 months and have only had minimal problems. However, the other day I turned it on to download photos from my cell phone to the computer, but when it turned on the cursor was frozen in the middle of the screen. I allowed it to sit for a few more minutes thinking maybe I didn?t let it boot up completely, but it never unfroze. I tried to use the keyboard to maneuver a restart with CTRL+ALT+DEL but the keyboard didn?t respond either. So I just turned it off using the power switch. I let it sit for a while and then tried a reboot. This time it worked. I thought I would attempt some troubleshooting so I did a disc cleanup and scheduled a scan disc to be completed on restart. Then I began the AVG virus scanner (which has been installed on the computer for over 2 months and not given me a problem) and a few minutes into the scan the whole computer locked up again (not just a program ?not responding?). I let it sit about 15 minutes hoping it would unlock, but it didn?t. The cursor was frozen in the middle of the screen and the keyboard was not responding again. I turned it off by the power switch and let it sit for about an hour. When I turned it back on the scan disc I had scheduled began running and when the system restarted everything worked again, but then I needed to leave so I put the computer to sleep and brought it with me. When I turned the computer back on a few hours later everything seemed to be working. I began working on a project and maybe 20-30 minutes into the project, the computer completely locked up again, cursor in the middle and no keyboard function. I did notice that the laptop was running a little hot at that point and from then on I have kept it in the coolest place possible and keep my house fan blowing on it as well......
This does not necessarily always happen but some times the mouse pointer jumps away to the top left corner area from where I click. Is there a remedy to stop this from happening?
I have a Toshiba notebook with Vista Business installed. Recently I installed the sidebar and added the "CPU performance meter" and noticed that it was constantly in motion. Looking at the Performance tab in task manager, I see that the CPU(s) (dual core) are very priodically show spikes. Every 4 to 5 seconds, the usage jumps from perhaps 10% to 70-80 %, and then goes back to 10%.
The laptop shows this bahavior over long periods of time, even if no application is running. Looking at the processe that are running, it appears that one of the "svchost.exe" (of which there are quite a few) seems to be the culprit, but I have no idea what is behind it. How do I find out what this process is actually doing? Can I simply end it to see what happens, or will that harm my laptop?
This has been going on for quite a while but its getting to severe points. What's happening is basically explorer.exe jumps straight to 95-99% when vista boots and remains like that without budging, resulting in extreme slow computer performance. Attempting to close the explorer then restarting will temporary bring it back to aroung 50% but it will soon jump up again, restarting doesnt work.
Here's the stuff Ive tried to do:
1- Got rid of the index.dat files in the TIF, apparently they slow performance.
2- Turned off search indexing
3- Tried to defragment the memory, but it doesnt do anything!
The weird thing is that it jumps to 99 without having anything running which implies that there is a background process thats eating up the CPU!
My cursor (not the mouse cursor) won't stay in one place. It jumps from field to field in just about every program I use, going from left to right, just like I'm pushing down the tab button on the keyboard. I'm on a desktop and not a laptop. It makes it very hard to type or to chose options in pop up windows. It makes the scroll bars move all by themselves too. I tried updating my keyboard driver without any improvement.
My pointer jumps all over the place I have a wireless laptop, Vista Home Premier got for xmas with wireless mouse. My pointer jumps everywhere, but the built in mouse also jumps, is there something in the drive or laptop?
This does not necessarily always happen but some times the mouse pointer jumps away to the top left corner area from where I click or even when I do not click anywhere but moving the pointer to certain direction. Is there a remedy to stop this from happening?
y cursor spontanius jumps over the screen while i'm not clicking on it. I tried a new mouse but the problem stays the same. I installed the mouse driver again but also the problem stays the same. It's not a virus because I checked that trough a virusscan. Is there anyone of you who knows how I can solve this problem?
My mouse (cursor) is very erratic - jumps all over the place without warning, sometimes disappears for several seconds. I have to chase it around to bring it back in control! It is a laser mouse. I tried another one from another computer that I know works, and I have the same problem.
I'd like to insert a hyperlink into windows mail - not one which jumps to a webpage - but one which jumps down to another piece of text within the same email - does anyone know how to do that?
When using any icons view in explorer.exe with a folder containing MPEG-2 video clips, and/or having the details pane switched on for such folder, explorer.exe eventually uses up all available memory until windows fail to redraw. Restarting explorer.exe or the computer temporarily fixes this problem until all memory is used up again. The problem can be reproduced with folders containing MPEG-2 clips. Other file types do not seem to trigger this behaviour. The process running on explorer.exe while memory usage jumps up is the following: RunDLL32.exe "C:Program FilesMovie, Makerwmm2clip.dll",VMGShellThumbnailGenerator "{FileName}.mpg" 256 256 0,Is there a known fix or workaround?
Trying to work out kinks on my Vista 32 bit. After clicking print in Windows Mail, it automatically jumps to an open Internet page, and then I have to click back to the Mail. This is driving me nuts.
I would like to ask you to Google for FileCopy/progressbar problem and see how Earth is filled with us - morons. My progress Bwr keeps dancing left & right, calulating time remaining (always lying by a huge marging unlike WinXP), but it's not too important. Important is that data transfer rate jumps from 16Mbps down to KBs periodically as it scans thru multipel files. All it can fast is copying a SINGLE large file, even that estimating time remaining and progress bar are not as good as in WinXP
This is one of the 500 admitted bugs Microsoft admits to in Vista and its a beauty. I hate to keep harping on the same point, but it makes absolutely no sense to me how such a basic function not just gets screwed up, but WHY Microsoft would ship Vista with such a obvious bug in it. It totally trashes their reputation. Oh wait, we're talking Microsoft. We know their reputation. Ship and fix later. Everybody knows whatever version of Windows we're talking about WAIT for the service pack before most of the bugs are out.
