Jumps Webpage Down Piece Text
Oct 6, 2009I'd like to insert a hyperlink into windows mail - not one which jumps to a webpage - but one which jumps down to another piece of text within the same email - does anyone know how to do that?

Ubuntu 8.04 What A Piece Of Junk
Apr 30, 2008I thought I would download the new Ubuntu 8.04 and give it a try because all the Ubuntu nut jobs were saying how cool Ubuntu is with their new release. I installed Ubuntu on my machine. I tried Open Office Spreadsheet. I thought I would try to enter a Macro then run it. I then had to install Java to be able to run a macro. If I didn't know that I needed to use Synaptic to figure out how to get the Java update, I would be screwed along with many others who try this crap. Just FYI
OK, so Java installs. BFD. It works but it isn't that good. Now, lets play some music. I navigated to bobrivers.com to play a tune. I was prompted to install some more updates. Fine. Did that. The install went OK. Then I had to install a couple more updates. That went fine. Now I clicked on the song to play and the page just froze.
No wonder why Ubuntu is such a piece of crap. Can't play a simple tune from a web page. Now in Vista, I could navigate right to the page, play the song and I would be as happy as a clam in a whorehouse.
Recognising HDDs: Copy Of Literally Every Piece Of Data
Jul 1, 2009I've just received a new computer from Dell. In it, is 1 1Tb HDD. My old Dell had 2 500Gb HDDs, which were mirrored across a RAID array. The idea being is that I had a copy of literally every piece of data I owned, so should something go wrong on one HDD, I wouldn't lose everything. In a bid not to lose everything, I rescued one of the 500Gb HDDs from my departing Dell PC (I got given a free upgrade due to ongoing technical issues involving my original computer) and have stuck it in my new PC.
It's connected via SATA cables, and has a power supply in to it as well, only windows doesn't seem to recognise this new drive. It's quite literally invisible. As one can imagine, this makes retreiving any data one may wish to recover exponentially more difficult. My old HDD was being run on a 32-bit Vista system, whereas my new system is 64-bit Vista.
IE Not Open Any Webpage
Aug 7, 2009I haven't installed anything new on my PC in months - Windows updates apart. When my PC is freshly booted, I can open IE8 and open new tabs etc After about an hour, IE will open a new tab, but no content is displayed - the little circle at the top of the tab just goes round forever. If I open a new session of IE8 - then I can open the web-page without problem. But, after another hour or so even a new instance of IE will not open any webpage at all and my only option is to re-boot. Fustrating having to re-boot every hour! thought it may be my PC Tools (free) anti-virus for Vista and changed to AVG, but it has made no difference.

May 30, 2008I frequently used this before but how in the world do you do it using vista? On xp it was click on edit I think and you used a find feature.

Internet Explorer Cant Display Webpage
Feb 2, 2009I have a problem with my laptop recently in that although I can send and receive e-mails, I can also connect to the internet via Internet Explorer, but I cannot see any webpages. All I get is 'Internet Explorer cant dislay webpage'. I then tried 'system restore' to an earlier date (as I suspect that one of the updates is causing the problem) and then it worked fine. However, a couple of days later I had the same problem. Does anyone know how to fix this annoying problem and what I can do to stop it happeneing again?

Sep 17, 2009I'm new to Vista. I have just connected my new laptop with Vista to my home network (XP). No dramas. But when browsing the internet (IE7), certain websites won't load (eg Apple, Ninemsn, Microsoft). Eventually it displays "Internet Explorer can't display the webpage". When you diagnose connection problems - it finds no problem. I have tried turning off firewalls (Vista), uninstalling my AV (NOD32), disabling Vista's autotuning (which booted my brothers computer off the network, but did nothing to mine). I have tried to browse through Morzilla Firefox (but i can't load the website to download it!) and have tried disabling ADD ONs in IE. None of these change anything!

Dec 26, 2007I regularly get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" pages when surfing the internet. My internet cuts off for any other programs using the connection as well. Every time it happens a tool pops up asking me to "diagnose connection problems." After identifying the problem, Windows states that the computer has limited or no connectivity and offers me 3 solutions.
1. Automatically get new IP settings for the network adapter "Local Area Network"
2. Try turning off modem, unplugging it and restarting, or
3. Reset the network adapter "Local Area Network."
All three solutions work for a time But the problem keeps persisting afterwards. Some days it will only do it once or twice. Other days it does it 3 times in 30 miniutes. Usually its not a big deal, since the repair always works, but if right in the middle of DL a large file, they often come through corrupted after the restart.

Apr 10, 2008I have a Toshiba notebook with Vista Business installed. Recently I installed the sidebar and added the "CPU performance meter" and noticed that it was constantly in motion. Looking at the Performance tab in task manager, I see that the CPU(s) (dual core) are very priodically show spikes. Every 4 to 5 seconds, the usage jumps from perhaps 10% to 70-80 %, and then goes back to 10%.
The laptop shows this bahavior over long periods of time, even if no application is running. Looking at the processe that are running, it appears that one of the "svchost.exe" (of which there are quite a few) seems to be the culprit, but I have no idea what is behind it. How do I find out what this process is actually doing? Can I simply end it to see what happens, or will that harm my laptop?
Explorer.exe Jumps Straight To 95-99%
Jun 2, 2009This has been going on for quite a while but its getting to severe points. What's happening is basically explorer.exe jumps straight to 95-99% when vista boots and remains like that without budging, resulting in extreme slow computer performance. Attempting to close the explorer then restarting will temporary bring it back to aroung 50% but it will soon jump up again, restarting doesnt work.
Here's the stuff Ive tried to do:
1- Got rid of the index.dat files in the TIF, apparently they slow performance.
2- Turned off search indexing
3- Tried to defragment the memory, but it doesnt do anything!
The weird thing is that it jumps to 99 without having anything running which implies that there is a background process thats eating up the CPU!
Cursor Jumps Fields --Tab Key?
Jan 6, 2009My cursor (not the mouse cursor) won't stay in one place. It jumps from field to field in just about every program I use, going from left to right, just like I'm pushing down the tab button on the keyboard. I'm on a desktop and not a laptop. It makes it very hard to type or to chose options in pop up windows. It makes the scroll bars move all by themselves too. I tried updating my keyboard driver without any improvement.

Mar 17, 2009I wasn't sure whether to post this under the Vista section, in the server section, or in IE7 because I'm not sure where the problem resides. We are hosting a sharepoint website on a server 2003 computer running IIS 6. I set up host headers in IIS and Access Mappings in WSS, and everything works perfectly for workstations with XP Pro.
The workstations that are running Windows Vista Business cannot connect to the site via the host header name. All clients are running IE7, and are up to date. The IP address of the server is being resolved just fine when using the host header value.
Cursor Spontanius Jumps Over Screen
Jul 2, 2008y cursor spontanius jumps over the screen while i'm not clicking on it. I tried a new mouse but the problem stays the same. I installed the mouse driver again but also the problem stays the same. It's not a virus because I checked that trough a virusscan. Is there anyone of you who knows how I can solve this problem?

Jun 9, 2009I would like to ask you to Google for FileCopy/progressbar problem and see how Earth is filled with us - morons. My progress Bwr keeps dancing left & right, calulating time remaining (always lying by a huge marging unlike WinXP), but it's not too important. Important is that data transfer rate jumps from 16Mbps down to KBs periodically as it scans thru multipel files. All it can fast is copying a SINGLE large file, even that estimating time remaining and progress bar are not as good as in WinXP
This is one of the 500 admitted bugs Microsoft admits to in Vista and its a beauty. I hate to keep harping on the same point, but it makes absolutely no sense to me how such a basic function not just gets screwed up, but WHY Microsoft would ship Vista with such a obvious bug in it. It totally trashes their reputation. Oh wait, we're talking Microsoft. We know their reputation. Ship and fix later. Everybody knows whatever version of Windows we're talking about WAIT for the service pack before most of the bugs are out.

Jul 29, 2009I send out a newsletter by email to a group of people, sometimes direct from WinMail sometimes via MS Word. I have not changed anything in my settings or set-up but just recently one of my contacts say they just get what appears to be a blank email from me with a 1kb attachment image001.gif. However, if they open my email and click Forward, when the new window opens to put the forward address in, the message I sent can be read, with all the formatting etc I used. They say they haven't changed anything in their setup.
