I am upgrading the memory to 2GB from 1GB, could someone please tell me whether I can change the Dedicated system memory from 64MB to 128 MB or just leave it as it is. I have attached the current info.
I have Vista Ultimate with the Fax/Scan feature. Does this mean I can scan a document and then fax through the program? Also, with regard to the phone line, if I am understanding the setup, I just run the line in to my fax modem then out to my phone? Vista will then dial a fax number and send it without the need for a dedicated phone line?
I haven't installed anything new on my PC in months - Windows updates apart. When my PC is freshly booted, I can open IE8 and open new tabs etc After about an hour, IE will open a new tab, but no content is displayed - the little circle at the top of the tab just goes round forever. If I open a new session of IE8 - then I can open the web-page without problem. But, after another hour or so even a new instance of IE will not open any webpage at all and my only option is to re-boot. Fustrating having to re-boot every hour! thought it may be my PC Tools (free) anti-virus for Vista and changed to AVG, but it has made no difference.
I have a problem with my laptop recently in that although I can send and receive e-mails, I can also connect to the internet via Internet Explorer, but I cannot see any webpages. All I get is 'Internet Explorer cant dislay webpage'. I then tried 'system restore' to an earlier date (as I suspect that one of the updates is causing the problem) and then it worked fine. However, a couple of days later I had the same problem. Does anyone know how to fix this annoying problem and what I can do to stop it happeneing again?
I'm new to Vista. I have just connected my new laptop with Vista to my home network (XP). No dramas. But when browsing the internet (IE7), certain websites won't load (eg Apple, Ninemsn, Microsoft). Eventually it displays "Internet Explorer can't display the webpage". When you diagnose connection problems - it finds no problem. I have tried turning off firewalls (Vista), uninstalling my AV (NOD32), disabling Vista's autotuning (which booted my brothers computer off the network, but did nothing to mine). I have tried to browse through Morzilla Firefox (but i can't load the website to download it!) and have tried disabling ADD ONs in IE. None of these change anything!
I regularly get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" pages when surfing the internet. My internet cuts off for any other programs using the connection as well. Every time it happens a tool pops up asking me to "diagnose connection problems." After identifying the problem, Windows states that the computer has limited or no connectivity and offers me 3 solutions.
1. Automatically get new IP settings for the network adapter "Local Area Network"
2. Try turning off modem, unplugging it and restarting, or
3. Reset the network adapter "Local Area Network."
All three solutions work for a time But the problem keeps persisting afterwards. Some days it will only do it once or twice. Other days it does it 3 times in 30 miniutes. Usually its not a big deal, since the repair always works, but if right in the middle of DL a large file, they often come through corrupted after the restart.
I'd like to insert a hyperlink into windows mail - not one which jumps to a webpage - but one which jumps down to another piece of text within the same email - does anyone know how to do that?
I wasn't sure whether to post this under the Vista section, in the server section, or in IE7 because I'm not sure where the problem resides. We are hosting a sharepoint website on a server 2003 computer running IIS 6. I set up host headers in IIS and Access Mappings in WSS, and everything works perfectly for workstations with XP Pro.
The workstations that are running Windows Vista Business cannot connect to the site via the host header name. All clients are running IE7, and are up to date. The IP address of the server is being resolved just fine when using the host header value.
When I attempt to play streaming audio from a web page with Internet Explorer I get message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" BUT when I copy the URL and paste it into Windows Media Player File/Open URL it plays perfectly.
i try to connect to microsoft.com or support.microsoft.com website there's the "internet explorer cannot display the webpage" error eventhough i have a good internet connection and able to connect to ther websites, and i need to perform ipconfig /flushdns or the net stop dnscache in order to connect to microsoft websites. and this kind of annoying error keep on appearing everytime i open the pc or restarting the pc. and i patiently followed the workaround indicated in support.microsoft.com but to no avail. error still exists
I try to access folders under my name (set up as administrator), most of the time I get access denied. It is driving me nuts. I want to change the start menu and get rid of a bunch of garbage but I can't enter the folder to do so. When I use the start menu program, it only has a few basic folders. This happens frequently, even when trying to view pictures or video in the folder. What do I need to change to remove this very annoying problem?
I have my laptop connecting to a server under AD control. My laptop is not joined to AD by design. I set up some files using 'Sync' to have them available to me offline. My AD password has since changed and I cannot connect to the server to have access to other files set up for offline access. When I attempt to remap the drive, I get an error stating I am already connected using the credentials provided. This is not true, since I cannot access the server. What do I need to do to fix this problem?
I think I might have a good one for you.. I am working on an Acer 5610z Notebook for a friend of mine. He was setting the parental controls and managed to control his account which had admin access. the user listing has the account listing as an admin but he only has standard user access. His was the "only" admin account.. While he was doing this he managed to deny access to the boot drive. The drive reads as "Access Denied". The machine boots up and a person can play games etc.. but network access is restricted.
i have recently tried to access Documents and Settings but am getting ACCESS DENIED for some reason yet i have done NOTHING to change my admin rights yet there seems to be an option for EVERYONE to access it but admin is not allowed to and it wont let me configure it that way. i have deleted EVERYONE from the properties and tried to revert to normal ADMIN user rights but it wont let me view docs and setts folder at all
Our Vista laptops (& my Xbox) access our basic Windows Home Server system through a Netgear router. It's all fine, but I want to (easily & quickly!) restrict & control when some laptops can access the internet while allowing free access to the server. (For instance, so children's internet access can be monitored but they can always get to photos & backups, etc. on the server.)
Search tells me the file exists but will not tell me where. Access denied. "To access, click Security Tab" Security Tab shows permission granted for Administrator and [User]. I am both User and Admin.
I ran Spybot S&D, got rid of any viruses it got and Mallware Bytes, again, removed everything. Even ran McAfee and got rid of whatever. But each time i run the scan on Spybot S&D it finds site that redirect me. I press fix selected items but it responds by saying "cannot access hosts file. Access is denied" I tried to untick the "protect hosts file form hijackers" in IE tweaks but keeps getting checked. On top of that the Hosts file is missing.
Just upgraded the computer by adding new motherboard, RAM, CPU and installing Vista 64 Home Basic. I cannot access my 2nd HDD in windows but windows can see it in the Device Manager and I can see it in my motherboards BIOS section also. Can anyone suggest a fix? I don't want to format the drive because I need all the info on there, that's why I had the second drive for storage.
I've developed an application that runs great on 32-bit Vista. But a user reports that when launched on 64-bit Vista it exits immediately with no error message. I don't have access to a 64-bit Vista machine to test with. Any ideas of likely places to look? I make many calls to the Windows SDK via [DllImport(user32.dll)].
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'drivers license', Account: 'rlhenslee@yahoo.com', Server: 'plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
i tried changing the outgoing mail port from 465 to 25 cause i think i saw in another persons post they were told to use that one, but i get the error message:
I have 2 networked hard discs acting as fileservers in my local intranet. I have no access issues on any of my machines except the office PC running Vista (Home Premium 64)... on the Vista machine, even though I've added the IP addresses of the networked drives to my trusted zone, they show up in Windows Explorer as being in the "Internet Zone" and I can't seem to change that.
So I turned on my PC this morning ( vista 64 bit ) and I could not connect to the internet. I hover my mouse over the little internet connection icon in the botom right hand corner and it says local access only. Has anyone else had this roblem? Is more information required (more than likely) jsut let me know. This is jsut another reason to have vista.
I just installed Norton Internet Security 2008. Now I can get into my favorite URL but when I try to go back to the last page it locks up every time. How can I get my favorite website with full functioning back again?
I recently set up WM on my desktop using my AOL email account information. I can view email in AOL until WM refreshes and the emails are visible there as well. However, if I read the AOL mail first, it doesn't make it to WM. I also set up my laptop with WM using the same AOL account but I can't seem to see my emails there, unless of course, I intercept them just as they come in. Is there a way to see ALL my emails on WM on either computer? I don't care if I can't use AOL anymore but do want the ability to see my emails regardless of which computer I'm using. Am I supposed to save to a server? If so, which is considered the server?
I read the "answer" post about UAC, and was wondering why when I set something to "run as administrator" in it's Properties it does not do so on an Administrator account? On the Guest account I have set up the program runs without asking for any kind of verification or admin password, but it always asks for such when run from the administrator account. What has gone wrong here? Is there some way to make a program "trusted" (like all Microsoft products) so that it doesn't ever need verification for all accounts on a system?
