Disable Pop-up Balloon Tips
Oct 18, 2006Tired of pop-up tips showing up all over the interface? With group policy editor, you can easily stop them from showing up for good.
Start up the group policy editor by clicking on the start button and keying in gpedit.msc and pressing Enter....
Disabling The Network Balloon
May 21, 2008I use my laptop both at home and at work. I have mapped a network drive to a shared folder on one of my home computers. Now, logically, every time I use my laptop at work, I get a balloon message saying not all network drives could be restored (or similar, I'm translating from dutch). I know that, and I'm not expecting it to be. I just don't want to do it by hand every time I log on to my home network.
Is it possible to disable that balloon? I've found this old (2004) article for XP that allows disabling ALL notification balloons: but most balloons actually contain useful information. I only want to disable this specific balloon tooltip. Using: Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, without SP1 (haven't received it through Windows Update yet, and I'm not downloading it manually).
Balloon And Icon In System Tray!
Oct 1, 2009I have a big white balloon that comes up in my system tray, every time I
load up the computer. This has only been coming up in the last few weeks or so.
The balloon shows a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark inside.
The balloon points to a square turquoise application icon with a red circle and a red line across it diagonally, on a white background. This sits on the bottom left of the turquoise application icon.
In the balloon, it states,
"Windows has blocked some start-up programmes. Windows blocks programs that require permission to run when Windows starts. Click to view blocked programs."
I did this and it showed me only one program that was blocked, which was my malwarebytes program. This has never happened to me before. So I clicked that program to unblock it but when I rebooted, the balloon and icon reappeared on the system tray.

Turn on Quick Edit Mode. This will allow you to easily select, copy and paste all with just your mouse and a right click. Details Here
When typing in a file or folder name, type in part of the name and then hit the TAB key to bring up matches. Use SHIFT +TAB to go the other direction.
When searching for a file, type in dir part_of_filename* to look for the file in the folder. To search sub directories as well, append the /s flag as well. Example: dir exp* /s
Use the up arrow to go back over past commands. Alternatively you can hit F7 and go directly to the command ......
Registry Altering Utility Called Xp_balloon Tips.vbs
Aug 26, 2009Back in the days when I used XP there was a registry altering utility called xp_balloontips.vbs. Running this useful utility managed to get rid of most of XP's annoying balloon tips that come up on mouse rollover. Does anyone know if there is anything similar for Vista?

Jun 23, 2008I installed Vista home premium OEM about 9 months ago and today I got a balloon message saying "I have 8 days left to install Vista. Back up all important data" The balloon messages have appeared recently, but I wasn't quick enough to read it all and I didn't believe it anyway. Just to see, I went through the process of reinstalling, but it was going to be a new install wiping all files and data from my C drive, so I cancelled the install. Would anyone know why this is happening after 9 months and is there anyway I can get around a new install? I have been using Acronis to back up, can I use it to put my settings/files/data back, or will I end up with balloon messages again?

How To Make Only 1 User
Mar 23, 2008before this i try to install vista on my machine. and for sure in that time we need to create user (adminstrator) before we start using the vista. after that, i try to keep an image for my vista because if anything happen, it will be more easier to me. then, i try to image on my machine again. but, there already have i user which mean the administrator that i create during the 1st installation. so, when i do the image, i need to put the different user name because the user name that i try to create already exist. so that will create 2 different user when imaging is done. is there any way how to delete the 1st user? so when imaging is done, it will only 1 user (new user) and the windows will be automatically show the desktop. (i know how to delete from control panel>user account). actually this is for my client.

I have searched high and low for an answer, but all I find are posts by people complaining that Vista uses all their RAM, and the obvious responses that Vista _should_ use all their RAM. My problem is that I have a 64-bit system with 8 GB of RAM, and Vista only ever seems to use about 2.5 GB of it. I notice quite slow performance, for example, when I use Firefox with 80 tabs or so, but RAM usage is still relatively low. Of course my pagefile.sys is always an 8 GB file when I check. How can I make Vista use all of my RAM? I should be getting better performance.

I have managed to make a few games run in a window, but that is because there was an option for it in the game options. Unfortunately for me, not all games have that kind of options.
