I have purchased a laptop which of course, has vista. I am still on xp on my PC. On my pc I was able to add a second row of icons to my bottom taskbar. All my favorite programs and icons were on there. I cannot find a way to do that on my laptop with vista. Is there a way?
When I connect my Epson CX3200 printer to a PC with XP o.s., I can see the ink levels in the properties window. Wen I connect to a PC with Vista o.s. I am unable to view any ink levels.
How do you check the ink levels in your printer? Win 98SE had a window that popped up and showed you how much ink was in each cartridge. I am using an Epson Stylus Color 600 printer and Widows Vista Home Premium.
my sound levels intermittently go up and down, not much but its noticeable when playing music loudly. I have already disabled all sound effects, switched plugs from back panel to front, and tried different speakers and it does only in WMP, every enhancement is off except for the EQ which didn't change anything anyway.
When I was running XP Pro my printer driver allowed me to see my ink levels. When I moved to Vista the old driver no longer worked and the Vista driver did not provide any capability for monitoring ink levels. Does anyone know of a utility that would allow me to see the ink levels in a HP g95 all-in-one printer under the Vista OS?
how much ink I have in the printer cartridges? When I had XP it automatically showed up whenever I printed. Now I don't know how to access that information.
The sound level recorded with my microphone is very low. I have tried to change the mic level but Windows will put it back to 47%, without allowing me to put the level up to 100%.Does anybody know why?
I've just noticed that this little downloads forum is: "Registered users can share and swamp downloads.(Registered Users Only)". Does that mean we are expecting unprecedented levels of downloading activity?
I have an Epson Stylus C64 printer which I am able to use as normal (with ink levels and status monitor appearing) on my old computer with Windows XP.
My new laptop is Vista and although I have installed the Epson Stylus Printer Software that came with the printer onto the laptop, the Ink Indicator Levels and the Epson Status Monitor options showing in 'Printer Prefences' seem to be grayed-out/disabled. I am unable to gauge my ink levels so have no idea how much ink I have available and/or when to replace it. The actual printing seems to be fine at the moment but I am unable to tell when the ink requires replacing.
I have tried to re-install the Epson Printer software but nothing seems to change - the ink levels and status monitor contine to be disabled/grayed out. I noticed that when installing the software I am asked to disable any anti-virus software - I have Norton installed but have no idea how to uninstall it - my computer also seems to be automatically provided with something called McAfee Security - again I am unsure how to disable this and whether in fact I need to do this - it may be that the anti-virus programs are hindering the Epson software from fully loading? Any ideas and/or suggestions would be most welcome.
I am trying to adjust my mixer to accomodate my new speakers, the voice is too low, and the base is too high. I have accessed the mixer and tried to make it tollerable, but have failed. There is no direct bass and treble adjustment, and there is not a "user" or "custom" setting. There are only presets, the problems with these presets, is that they work in certain situations, but not in others. Any advise? Am I looking in the worng place? Can I put software in place to adjust the levels indepent of each other? I am using the onboard sound card on an Abit IP35 Pro, and I am using Home Premium 64.
(i'm running vista 32bit SP1, i hope its not too out of place to ask a question in a 64bit forum)
this looks like the closest i've found to a forum w/ my prob.
essentially i backed up my HD on an external (western digital) using "second backup" as the backup software.
i noticed after backing up that all my folder icons (favorites, contacts, music, pictures, etc...) reverted to the generic yellow folder.
i was able to change one or two (and only those in the shortcuts in "favorite links" heading of a windows explorer window) by right click -> properties -> change icon but all the folders (in their actual location eg. c:users"username") remain the ugly yellow folder.
changing them one by one seems inefficient and if annoying if it were to occur again.
i've done the right-click on destop -> personalize -> change desktop icon -> restore default, no result (tho i didnt really expect one since the desktop icons arent really the issue)
i've rebuilt the icon cache, no luck.
i've re-written the desktop.ini for a couple of them, no result (tho i didnt really expect one)
system restore isn't an option, i dont have an old enough restore point (hense the need for backing up).
i'm wondering of a systemic way to essentially restore the default icons for all these folders (music, video, downloads, etc...) and their respective shortcuts.
How do I or how can I change the look of my task bar with having to buy a program. I kinda like the look of apples task bar, icons across the bottom. Any ideas. Thanks
I have vista home premium, all was going well until yesterdayThe PC will boot up normally, I can see everything icons, taskbar all boot up. Once it is all up and ready they dissapear! I can't even right click on desktop nothing happens! The only thing left on desktop is the gaget bar.The only way to get online to internet is by going through the "get more gagets online" part of the gaget bar.
I need to add the Search box (for all folders, files, email, etc) to the TaskBar in Vista for my boss. We're all using XP and added Desktop Search, using the search box in the Taskbar for quick searches. I can't seem to find a way to add it to the taskbar in Vista. I need a way to put it in front of him as he won't use it via the Start Menu.
My Taskbar isn't transparent i have got my computer on Aero the Start Menu is transparent but my taskbar isn't I have a dell laptop with the same version of vista on and it's tranparent on there
I have aero turned on and the transparency works for all application windows but my taskbar is just black. it's not transparent or anything. i know that when a windows is maximized then it will turn black but i don't have any windows or anything open and it is still black.
My taskbar is locked. I can't launch a quick launch item. If I minimise a window I can't get it back. I can't open any items in the systray. mI have been into control panel and unlocked and locked and unclocked the task bar to no avail.
I moved the taskbar to the left edge several months ago, and now I want to move it back. Unfortunately the taskbar seems locked on that edge. I have unlocked the taskbar, and I can resize the quick launch toolbar. The taskbar cannot move or resize. However, the taskbar CAN move and resize in the Safe Mode. I wonder if I changed some registry entry or policy that I don't aware.
I am sorry but I am ignorant about the computer system. I have a Toshiba I bout about a year ago that runs Vista. On the computer it says Vista PC Workgroup Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2Duo My Internet connections have been glitchy lately. Our service is in a package deal (phone, cable, Internet) and usually is pretty good, but lately it was taking several tries to change websites. Someone said that it was due to the number of processes in my task bar. They said it should be around 24, but my has 100.
I am a school teacher and I have Smart Board software which takes up space, but I was wondering how I should know which processes to delete/ end. I tried deleting programs and I somehow lost my sound icon on my toolbar,
There was a sudden power outage that lasted about 1 second and my computer shut down and immediately powered itself up again. Ever since then the taskbar disappeared from my desktop. The resolution was changed too as a result of the outage but I fixed that easily. Pressing the Windows button on my keyboard does not do anything. When I minimize my windows, they disappear to the right of the screen to nowhere. I have tried to see if the taskbar moved over there but it did not.
I had this problem recently , when i open any window ( Windows Explorer, Firefox, IE ... etc ) my taskbar disappears without a reason. On the other hand when i minimize all the applications the taskbar appears again this is so annoying because i cant switch between my applications easily and i must press Alt+Tab to switch between them, besides i love the presence of the taskbar so i can see the time, in breif the absence of the sidebar makes me pissed off. this is my normal view of the disktop ( When everything is minimized ) : but when i maximize any window the taskbar disappears and the view SUCKS and looks like that: i tried everything possible, note that the Auto-hide the taskbar option is not enabled.
It use to be when I would open something it would put icons on the task bar on the right hand side. It would only show two at a time and you could Click the arrow to scroll through. All of a sudden it stopped doing that and it adds them on the left and shows all the programs. Any ideas how to get it back?
I was just learning how to boot in a safe mode and now, the taskbar and the toolbar are transparent. Also, the background of every site is white. How do I set everything back to normal.
Yesterday my computer was working perfectly, however when i started my computer up today the screen was completely black and all i had was a mouse, luckily i was able to start task manager and then run programs. I assumed this was a one time vista glitch but just in case, i ran an anti-virus that came out negative. I expected things to be resolved if i restarted my computer, but when i restarted it the same thing, so i restarted one more time, and to my discontent, this time there was not even a mouse, so now i have to write this from vista safe mode in order to access my computer. Attached is my dxdiag if you need to see it.
not sure if thumbnail preview is the right term. - wanted to ask about why or how i might be able to fix ....... scenario: when i open a folder....
1. if its full of pdf files (ex.: e-books) i dont see the preview / covers of the e-books any more as before - just the foxit icon 2. if the folder is full of videos (ex: movies) i dont see a small clip of a scene as before now i only see my VLC Player icon. (the big orange cone) was there some setting that i might changed, not realizing? new things that ive done lately: .....have tried like crazy to better boot time by following the guide at Black Viper .....at this moment im using the Vista Basic Theme (no aero). really dont care much for the thumbnail previews on taskbar. have checked: when i open a folder and click on organize & select folder and search options under view tab - the option "always show icons, never thumbnails" is NOT checked. ???? have also tried clearing the thumbnail cache by deleting thumbnails under disk cleanup????
What the title says right after i restarted my computer the taskbar and all my destop icons were gone i still got my sidebar running but thats it. I tried right clicking my desktop nothing showed up. I would like a answer asap
I am running Vista Home Premium, and when I turned on my computer, my taskbar was a light gray. I took a picture:
If I open a full screen window (such as Firefox), my taskbar goes back to the normal black color, but if I don't have a full screen window it is that light gray color.
