using Vistas, XPs, on my source PC. With Summer time, time of the files shifts forward for one hour. On my backup disks (virtual truecrypt, fat32 flash, etc.disks) remains one hour late. How to resolve backup problem? Comparing time shows, that all files on source is one hour newer.
View 5 RepliesInstalling Vista took about an hour. I'm seriously! Booting into the desktop is painfully slow. Task Manager shows the CPU spiked to 100%, but on closer inspection, no process in the list of "All Users" shows what's taking up the resource. All other desktop tasks are a SLIDE SHOW: opening windows, right clicking items, My Computer, Start menu, etc. I won't even bother commenting on the administrative popups and how long they take to appear and disappear. My first instinct was to search for 'cpu 100% max' and found other posts scattered throughout:
* disable the SSPD service. -- made no difference for me.
* disable the DNS Client service. -- made no difference for me........
i have an hour glass next to the the pointer that only appears when the cursor is over the list of incoming mail on yahoo!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two computers using Vista SP1 and both get turned off every night. This morning started up the first pc and everything went fine during boot and log-in. Then when I tried to start an application the p.c froze with the round "hour-glass" timer showing. Didin't think much of it. I re-booted and everything was fine. Started up the 2nd p.c. a while later and exactly the same problem, only this time I went for the "start" menu first and not an application. Now I think this is quite odd. The same problem on different p.c.'s on the same day using the same operating system. Re-booted the 2nd p.c. and again everything is okay.

Also this is working properly.But when I want to send a mail from Windows Mail, in the FROM field, I can only select account X as the FROM party but I sometimes also want to send a mail with sender = account Y, how can I manage that?

View 5 Replies View RelatedJust started using WIN Mail. Previously uded Outlook Express and was happy with it. Two issues I have found and have not found any solutions for are:
(1)When I receive Links in an e-mail and I try to Forward these the Links become inactive in the Forward.
(2)I don't want full e-mail addresses in my Sent nor Forwarded e-mails, just the names.
These issues did not exist in my Outlook Express. Can these be fixed or is there a solution?
The tool bar above the inbox that shows forward, red X for delte, etc. is no longer there. How do I get that back?

have multiple accounts which I use for my e-mail. Always when I have replied or forwarded an e-mail, the account name that it was received in has automatically been entered in the "from" window. That is, if the mail that I am forwarding was received by account 1 that is the name that would appear in the from box. Now all of a sudden it is entering my default account name, but not with all of my accounts, just one. This has led to problems for me with mailboxes not recognizing the name that the mail is
being sent from. When it started happening I did not notice the mail going out from the wrong account, of course now I change it manually, but it's not the best solution, I'd like to get it back to the way it should be. I've looked through accounts and options, but have not been able to figure what has happened to cause this problem. I'm afraid that it's the dreaded computer gremlins again. This just started yesterday, and has caused me considerable grief if a very short time. If anyone can point me to a
solution I would be very grateful.
In a mail program I used in the past I could "bounce" a message as part of the forwarding function. When "bounced" to another e-mail, it looked as though the message came from the original sender. Is there a function in Windows Mail that does this?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to reply, reply all or forward an email either in preview or from an open email nothing happens. Message at the top (Not responding). It seems like the program freezes or there is a very long delay for the reply or forwarded email to appear. If and when it does appear, the email is blank with no text, it is still waiting for the info to load whether there is an attachment or not. When I try to x out, a new window opens giving me the option to restart the program, close or wait for windows mail to respond.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhile installing a program, the process was interrupted and the install created 62000 files using 160gig in my syswow64 folder virtually using all my hd space. However when you go into the syswow64 folder, there is only about 2000 files and 1 gig of space used. I have set the folders to show all hidden files. When I go into the ms dos prompt and do a directory, the files match the 1 gig data.
I can't delete these 62000 files and free up the 160 gig space because I don't believe they are actually there on the hard drive but explorer thinks they are there. Is there any way to rebuild, sync, or otherwise get windows explorer to recognize the correct amount of files that are actually in my syswow64 folder.(2000files 1gig and not 62000files 160gig)
I am running Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I have a folder on my desktop named Downloads that I use for, shockingly, downloads. Anyway, there are a couple of files in the folder that are, apparently, not really there. They are like ghost files. They used to exist but now they are still visible but not recognized by any program. Also, they have a size of 0 kb!
I'd like to get rid of them but they refuse to be deleted. When I try to delete them, I get this:

Miscellaneous sub-folders within folders have disappeared, while other sub-folders remain intact. At first I was completely lost, as the files were there not 30 minutes prior... After assuming the worst and thinking that they had corrupted or been deleted due to a virus, I:
- Made sure my folder options were set properly (I can view all hidden files)
- Thoroughly checked the recycle bin
- Did numerous searches
- Downloaded Google Desktop and searched some more
- Ran various "undelete" and "recovery" programs with no results
- Did a system restore...........
I bought a new computer for college recently and I cannot download limewire. Everytime I try I get an error message that says "....can't open input files because of splittet files." I have no idea how to circumvent this.

When I doubleclick on the exe file, instead of the application installing, what should happen but Word of all things opens with, in the case of one of them a box headed 'File Conversion - arw5setup.msi', and a similar wording in the second, asking me to select the encoding that makes my document readable. Whatever I select, the exe file then opens as a text file.
(The reference to an msi file is baffling as both files were exe files.) When it happened the first time I thought it was a corrupt file, but when it happened again it has to be that there is something wrong with my system. Is this a virus? Spybot has just come up with a clean slate ...
When I start installing it, it goes through the "Copying Files" stage instantly, and then hangs up at 0% on "Expanding Files". Then, anywhere from 10 seconds to 3 minutes later, my screen goes black like it's not receiving a monitor signal anymore, and nothing else happens.
I Googled the problem and found a ton of threads here and elsewhere with the same issue, with a slight variation, but none of them had issues posted, and they were all relatively old.
