After upgraded the server, all of the User PC & email server cannot access or see share folders of another PC & email server each other except the email server can be able to access some windows vista PC. But all of the PC & servers (include email & filer server) can access file server share folders. Could you tell me which setting in server is wrong that cause this problem?

XP Home Edition - Print Share, "you Dont Have Permission To Access This Server"

Mar 23, 2008

I have a XP home machine with a shared printer. I am trying to get Vista to see the xp machine. I have renamed both workgroups to match up but vista still does not see the machine. I have network discovery enabled. I can ping the xp machine and resolve the name with ping -a . The xp machine is plugged into the cable router/modem. And vista is on a wireless connection to the same router. But if I type \xp machine is does not find it. \ip address it does. I had an issue with "you dont have permission to access this server" so I made a registry change on the xp machine to allow anonymous connections.

Cannot Share The Files And Folders

Apr 5, 2008

We have vista on both desktop (office-pc) and wireless laptop (daniel-pc) and a canon mp830 connected to the desktop pc. Desktop has macafee with firewall off and laptop had pc-cillin with firewall off. Both machines have identical sharing & discovery settings (no passwords), and the printer is shared. Both pc's see the other's files and printer. I plugged the MP830 into the laptop and let vista install the drivers.

When the printer is connected to the desktop pc, and I try to connect from the laptop, I get the 0x00000012 error. I then followed the advice in this forum and tried to create a local port on the laptop printer as \office-pcCanon830 and I get 'access denied'. Now, here's the thing, I plugged the printer into the laptop and tried to connect to it from the desktop. I clicked START, NETWORK, Daniel-pc and then right clicked the printer and clicked connect and IT DID. I then printed a document from the desktop to the printer connected to the laptop.

Next i uninstalled the printer from the desktop and then plugged it back in and let vista install the drivers as I had the laptop, thinking that perhaps there was a snag in the Canon software. I also downloaded the vista driver from Canon as I had done for the laptop. But when I tried to connect the desktop printer from the laptop, I once again got the 0X00000012 error. I've been round and round with this for a week and i must be missing some little thing.

Share Permissions For Folders

Sep 16, 2009

My home TV service (AT&T U-Verse) allows for the playing of songs from a networked PC, over the TV and thus over the TV's sound surround speakers. For this to work, I need to allow all of my music folders/files to be shared. My music collection is housed in Itunes, which creates a folder for each artist, and sub folders for each album. I have about 4,000 songs, and 385 artists. "Beneath" these 385 folders for the artists, there is approximately another 700-800 sub folders. All of these folders/files are "not shared". How can I change all of the folders & files to "shared" WITHOUT having to do each one individually?

How To Share Folders Only With Workgroup Members

Jul 29, 2009

Friends are visiting from out of state and connected to my secure home network with their laptop for internet access. We were surprised that they could also see my shared folders even though our workgroup names are different. Is there a way to restrict shared folder access to only members of my workgroup - specifically, allow only the 3 computers (2-XP, 1-Vista) on my home network to see each other's shared folders?

64 Fails To Access Net Share In WXP Pro SP2

Nov 3, 2009

I have a small network with 4 pcs. 1 is Vista 64, two XP Pro and 1 W2K. Peer
to Peer. All machines could see the other machines shares without problem.
The net browser is the W2K machine.

I had to change the chassis of 1 XP Pro box because of heating. everything
was phisically moved to another chassis, no OS change watsoever, nor
component changes. Now, both XPs and the W2K can see shares in each other
normally, as before, and they even can see shares on the Vista box.

But the Vista started behaving in a wierd manner:

Vista to W2K: sees shares normally
Vista to WXP Pro not modified Sees shares normally
Vista to WXP Pro with new chassis: The XP does not recognize the vista User
and Password. I tried as Administrator, as user, changed passwords in both
XP and Vista, created a New user in both machines with and without password,
and still the XP refuses to recognize the Vista credentials.

SP2 Breaks Local Share Access From XP Computer

May 8, 2009

I have a home (workgroup, not domain) network with a bunch of Vista SP1 PCs and one XP SP3 PC. Before I upgraded Vista SP1 PCs to SP2, all PCs could see and share files among each other. After I upgraded two of the Vista PCs to Vista SP2, the XP PC cannot see their shared folders. The Vista SP2 PCs show up in the list, but when I try to see the shared folders I get an error message "\XP2PC is not accessible. You might not have permission..." etc. I've rebooted everything including the router. All the Vista PCs, whether SP1 or SP2, can see each other's shares. The problem is only with the XP PC -- it appears that SP2 broke something.

Unable To Access Local Share - Ultimate

Mar 23, 2008

I am trying to access the public folder from another computer on my local network. After failing I started diagnosis at the local machine. I have UAC turned off and have shared the public folder (c:userspublic) with full control, change and read for everyone in share and Full control for everyone in the security tab. I can access the folder in windows explorer. If I select start network, machine name, public, I get a message that \machinenamepublic is not accessible. Network and sharing center show the following:

Network Discovery on

File Sharing on

Public floder sharing on (password required)

Printer sharing off

Password Protected Sharing on

Media sharing off

If I click on the link to show me all the files and folders that I am sharing nothing is displayed.

This is all local, not via the network.

Access Share On XP Box: Safe Mode Networking

Mar 23, 2008

I would like to transfer some files from my old XP laptop to my new Vista laptop. All available Windows updates have been applied to both boxes and both boxes are plugged into my Linksys BEFSX41 router. I must boot my XP box in "Safe Mode with Networking" because some unknown startup item has been causing problems. For both boxes, my logon account is a member of the local Administrators group and has a blank password. On my XP box, in Explorer I share the folder "xfer" which contains my files. I grant "Full Control" to "Everyone".

On my Vista box, in Explorer I can see my XP box, but when I double-click on it I get the message:"is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Logon failure: user account restrictions. Possible reasons are blank passwords not allowed, logon hour restrictions, or a policy restriction has been enforced."

Cannot Access Share External Drive On XP Home System

Apr 6, 2008

I have XP Home on my desktop and it has an external Western Digital USB attached drive that I have set up as shared on the network. I also have allowed updates from netowrk users in the share settings. I can see the drive from my Vista Home Premium laptop, but when I try to access it I get an error: "drivename" is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource. Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

Now I shared the internal C drive on the desktop with the same share settings and I can access that drive from Vista with no problem. The only things I can't access on the C drive are documents and settings, WINNT and other systems folders, whcih is, I assume, as it should be. Otherwise I can access all the folders and files on the C drive. I have Norton Internet Security on the desktop and Norton 360 on the laptop, but my home network is in the trusted group for both firewalls and, since I can see the drive and can also access the C drive, it doesn't appear to be a firewall problem, but some kind of permissions problem, and of course I can't set permissions on the XP Home system. Can someone explain to me what is wrong? I have been searching for days on the web for answers, but as yet have not found a pertinent answer.

Access Folders Under My Name (set Up As Administrator), Most Of The Time I Get Access Denied

I try to access folders under my name (set up as administrator), most of the time I get access denied. It is driving me nuts. I want to change the start menu and get rid of a bunch of garbage but I can't enter the folder to do so. When I use the start menu program, it only has a few basic folders. This happens frequently, even when trying to view pictures or video in the folder. What do I need to change to remove this very annoying problem?

Visible Profile Folders To A Server

Mar 26, 2009

I want to redirect all my (visible) profile folders to a server. I have done this for all them except Desktop. I do this by right-clicking the folder's icon, clicking Properties, clicking on the Location tab, entering a location of \servershareusernameFolder, and clicking OK. It asks if I want to move everything in the current folder to the new folder, and I click Yes. Easy, and it works perfectly.

When I do this for the Desktop, it works just fine. But the next time I log in (whether after a reboot or not), the desktop folder has reverted back to C:UsersusernameDesktop. Nothing I do will make it stick to the server. The other redirected folders stay where I put them and they continue to work normally.

I can't get access to certain folders, everything was fine until my HD went KaPuT, so I installed a new dual 160GB raid system so I won;t lose it all again, the only problem is now that I reloaded Vista Ultimate I can't access anything, I have turned UAC off (my god what a mess that is, who thought up that POS?) and gave permissions and turned over ownership of everything to me, there is nobody else listed as a user in my system, yet when I use my AutoCad LT 2008 and try to access files, when I click on the directory I need to get into, it does nothing, I can get into other ones, but not any of the ones with little tiny curved arrows in boxes on the lower left. I have access of them in explorer, but not through LT 2008, HALP !! I need to get back to work and this is killing me, I am fairly knowledgable in puter stuff, but Vista is insane. up until now I have liked it, but XP is looking better all the time.

Access To Folders

May 3, 2009

I recently purchased a new laptop with Vista on it, and I continue to be frustrated by the layers of security I have to constantly wade through. I am the owner, administrator and sole user of this computer. It is used in my home and is not part of any LAN. Yet even though I am the administrator and only user, I still have to give myself permission before I can do certain things or run certain programs. Is there any quick and easy way I can change a setting somewhere so that I don't have to constantly give myself permission to do various things?

Also, I have managed to change the security settings on various folders by going into Properties so that I can access the folders freely and see and access all files. But there are certain folders like the main Windows folder where I can't quite get the settings right so that I can have full control over the folder. I still see certain things grayed out on security screens under Properties where I am trying to give myself full control.............

PC Can't Access It's Own Shared Folders.

Apr 14, 2008

I am trying to organize the File and Printer Sharing on my home network, but I have one stubborn Vista PC (PC1) that can't access any of the network shared folders, or even it's own.

From PC1:
- Double-clicking on the PC1 icon in Network displays a "\PC1 is not accessible" error
- Typing \PC1 (or 192.168.x.x) into IE or Run gives the same error
- Clicking on "show me all the shared network folders on this computer" does nothing the point turns into circle for a few seconds but then nothing happens.

PC1 is running Vista Home edition
- Network Discovery is ON
- File and Printer Sharing is ON
- All computers are in the same WORKGROUP
- Password access is OFF
- Windows Firewall only (no Third Party Firewalls).

Open These Folders, I Get: Access Denied

Mar 26, 2008

In Windows Vista Home Premium there appeared new restrictions on some (not all) folders, like Application Data, Desktop, Documents etc. They all seem to have in the lower left corner a little square with a blue arrow pointing toward 2 o???clock. When I try to open these folders, I get: ???Access denied.???

When I check the security of the folders (right clicking the folder and clicking security), I notice that the accessible folders have Gerhard (DesktopGerhard) listed, whereas the non- accessible ones have Every-one. But when I try to add in the non-accessible folder Gerhard (DesktopGerhard), it says:???The following object, Gerhard (DesktopGerhard), is not from a domain listed in the Select Location dialog box and therefore not valid. I???m the only user and have administrative privileges. These restrictions did not exist before.

Access Denied When Sharing Folders

Aug 18, 2008

I have a HTPC running vista ultimate 32bit, 250gb OS drive and 1tb mirror storage drive (need some fault tolerance since my pics and music will be stored here.) I would like to have this machine also act as a mini server and be able to share out the folders housing my music and my pictures. ( makes it easier for me to dump off my recently taken pics from vacations that i may have dumped onto my laptop, and now that i am back home would like to dump back to the vista machine.) This machine is also part of a domain (a whole other nightmare to get vista to join my domain) My server is running windows 2003 standard.

I set folder permissions and and i just can't seem to get passed the access denied. when trying to open up one of the vista shared folders. from the domain controller i mapped the folders that i need and i can open them but can not make any changes or create new directories. what am i doing wrong? I know i am no expert when it comes to networking but xp has never given me this much of a headache. *the reason it is on a domain and not a workgroup - is to broaden my skill and familiarity with working with servers, Domain controllers and Active Directory*

How To Access The Shared Files/folders

I don’t know how to access the shared files/folders from either computer. All the web sites I’ve visited tell me how to enable sharing but none of them tell me how to access them. It’s probably a simple process but I can’t figure it out.
