View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium, I am trying to add a Maxtor Shared Stroage II 320 GB Hard drive that is networked connected. I have installed the supplied software. The drive is up and running. I can access the drive but anytime I try to Move, Copy or send any file to the drive I get the following: "Destination Folder Access Denied, You need permission to perform this action." I have been on the phone with Seagate for hours, they have never seen this before. I have shut off my firewall, USC, Antivirus but no help.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI try to access folders under my name (set up as administrator), most of the time I get access denied. It is driving me nuts. I want to change the start menu and get rid of a bunch of garbage but I can't enter the folder to do so. When I use the start menu program, it only has a few basic folders. This happens frequently, even when trying to view pictures or video in the folder. What do I need to change to remove this very annoying problem?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to access certain folders, such as C:Windows, and get the message that access is denied. The account under which I am logged in is the only administrator account on the machine. How do I change the so I have full access to everything on the machine?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium, am the administrator. In the folders left pane are some files with what appear to be a shortcut symbol attached. When I try to access or right click them, I get the message "Access is denied". What are these files and why can't I access them?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn Windows Vista Home Premium there appeared new restrictions on some (not all) folders, like Application Data, Desktop, Documents etc. They all seem to have in the lower left corner a little square with a blue arrow pointing toward 2 o???clock. When I try to open these folders, I get: ???Access denied.???
When I check the security of the folders (right clicking the folder and clicking security), I notice that the accessible folders have Gerhard (DesktopGerhard) listed, whereas the non- accessible ones have Every-one. But when I try to add in the non-accessible folder Gerhard (DesktopGerhard), it says:???The following object, Gerhard (DesktopGerhard), is not from a domain listed in the Select Location dialog box and therefore not valid. I???m the only user and have administrative privileges. These restrictions did not exist before.
I have a HTPC running vista ultimate 32bit, 250gb OS drive and 1tb mirror storage drive (need some fault tolerance since my pics and music will be stored here.) I would like to have this machine also act as a mini server and be able to share out the folders housing my music and my pictures. ( makes it easier for me to dump off my recently taken pics from vacations that i may have dumped onto my laptop, and now that i am back home would like to dump back to the vista machine.) This machine is also part of a domain (a whole other nightmare to get vista to join my domain) My server is running windows 2003 standard.
I set folder permissions and and i just can't seem to get passed the access denied. when trying to open up one of the vista shared folders. from the domain controller i mapped the folders that i need and i can open them but can not make any changes or create new directories. what am i doing wrong? I know i am no expert when it comes to networking but xp has never given me this much of a headache. *the reason it is on a domain and not a workgroup - is to broaden my skill and familiarity with working with servers, Domain controllers and Active Directory*
Running Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium. When I try to open some folders I get a message that says "C:Usersryant\DocumentsMy Pictures is not accessible. Access is denied". How do I correct this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to access the My Documents or My Music folders in my user account folder, it says Access Denied. Also, when I tried to disable indexing for my hard drive, I was denied access as well. Do I need to be on the root admin account to have access to these things? How do I get rid of all these annoying restrictions so I can use them on my regular account? I have UAC disabled.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThere are nine folders I can't open. Each displays a message that says "access is denied". I am the admin (the only user). I even ran the windows explorer in admin mode (run as administrator). A few that give this message are: C:UsersJohnapplication data; also cookies; local settings; start menu; etc. I tried to set the security of these folders, but access was denied for that function too.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAm still in early days with a new computer with Vista. In Windows explorer, and when using Office, I see shortcut icons labelled things like "my music", "My videos", "My documents" which seem to be hangovers from XP, but all of which give "access denied messages when I click on them. So why on earth are they there? Can I hide/delete them?
View 6 Replies View Relatedi've installed vista in my primary hd and i use a second hd for data. In this second hd i can't change the permission of the folders (i've got a folder with read only permission that i can't remove). I've already add the permision to Vista users and I've changed the owner to SYSTEM too but without luck. When i open the disk propeties then to Security tab i can still see the old xp user (the uid) that i've previously removed, then after a second all the current user/permmision appear.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThey are connected through a wireless network set to private, with file sharing and network discovery and no passwords required. Both users are set to administrator with no password required. What I want is permission to transfer files or folders between the C drives of both machines.
I get as far as seeing these drives when I click on the computer's network location but then cannot gain access to the drive itself. I feel as if I'm close. I've trying playing with the permissions on both C drives and it looks like I've set everything I can.
I think I might have a good one for you.. I am working on an Acer 5610z Notebook for a friend of mine. He was setting the parental controls and managed to control his account which had admin access. the user listing has the account listing as an admin but he only has standard user access. His was the "only" admin account.. While he was doing this he managed to deny access to the boot drive. The drive reads as "Access Denied". The machine boots up and a person can play games etc.. but network access is restricted.

i installed World of Warcraft and it's expansions and started patching it. When patching from 3.1.0 to 3.1.1, the process kept stoping and 70% then just exit without returning any error in return. So i thought i should run the Repair tool and try again. Only now, when i tried to access WoW.exe i got this error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
So i came upon this little reg file called Take Ownership, i ran it but nothing has changed. Also, if i: right click wow.exe->properties->compatibility i cannot tick the "Run this program as an administrator" box. My only options now, are a complete reinstall of the game and patches (but that's just wrong, because there has to be a more logical solution).
My iTunes has suddenly stopped giving me access giving the message "The iTunes library .itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file." The iTunes forum says that I need I need to uncheck the "read-only" attributes by right-clicking on the iTunes folder, select properties, unselect Read-only. So I did and received the message, "You will need to provide administrator permission to change these attributes, click continue or cancel. I clicked continue. It ran "applying attributes" and then I clicked ok. But iTunes still gives me the same message that the file is locked. And then when I back into properties the read-only selected again.

View 9 Replies View RelatedHow can I gain FullControl of my machine? I have turned off UAC. There is only 1 account. That's me, and I'm the Administrator. I right-click on Documents and Settings in Explorer (or whatever it's called now) and I get "Access Denied?". I am NOT interested in Microsoft's idea of security. I want absolute control of every file on my machine. If I can't have control, the machine is useless to me.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen selecting a subkey of the Java Plug-in key in the registry, I'm having an 'Access Denied' error. Even when I'm running regedit.exe with administrator rights. (OS = Visa Home Premium 32bits) When adding permissions to a subkey, I'm getting the same 'Access Denied' error when I want to save those permissions.
It results in a very anoying issue that none of my browsers (IE and FireFox) are recognising that the Java Plug-in is installed. I already tried to install other versions of the Java Plug-in, IE and Firefox (they are all installed successfully). Installing those apps with and/or without administrator rights. Nothing helps. I also searched to similar problems on this forum, but none of the solutions are fixing my problem.
