Cleaned Computer Now Unable To Detect Cable
Jul 29, 2009I have just recently cleaned my computer using a duster after having not cleaned it for a good 2-3 months and have 2 pcs connected to a billion...Billion modem which I do not remember the serial for. Since reconnecting the PC however after cleaning it out the machine no longer detects my Ethernet cable as being plugged into my network card (a Realtek RTL8168B/8111B Family PCi-E GBE NIC)....I have tried disabling and renabling the network card on vista, disconnecting the cable and
reconnecting it where the network card itself lights up as well as removing the card and re-slotting it in before booting on the PC again however the issue continues to exist. It has always worked for the past year or so and so I am baffled as to why it would suddenly stop working.
Freeview: Doesnt Detect Any Tv-signal
Dec 11, 2008im trying to run media center through a freeview box i used to use on my tv. the aerial cable runs form my antenna into my freeview box then from the output slot into the back of my computers tv card. However in set-up when i clcik yes to do i use a set-top box it doesnt detect any tv-signal? then if i just clcik next it says no IR input found. is this talking about the IR reciever that cam ewith my tv card? or the one on the freeview box?

Mar 29, 2008I have a brand new HP laptop with running Vista Home Premium. USB devices I regularly use is my digital camera, my iPod, a bluetooth USB stick, my printer and my wireless mobile internet device. Every time I plug one of these in, I have to pray that it will be recognised. If it is a good day, and it is recognized, it does not show up in My Computer or in Windows Explorer and I cannot unplug it safely. With some of the devices, every time I plug it in, I get a pop-up which says it is updating the driver software, but it does not seem to make any difference.

May 3, 2008when I plug my speakers into the rear panel, realtek device manager still shows that I have not plugged anything into the back jack, and I have checked about 10 times to make sure it is in the right hole, this is also the issue with my microphone, when I try to configure my speakers, it shows a red "x" and says "not plugged in" I don't know what the issue may be, it does the same for microphone as well, and I can't figure out how to fix this. Also the "configure" and "set default" button's are grayed out and I can't click them. Also I am trying to use analog speaker's if that makes any difference with responses.

Feb 28, 2008Internet Explorer 7 in 64-bit mode: Awesome! Minefield, otherwise known as Firefox 3 Beta 3, the only x64 Firefox browser currently available. Incredible...BUT! There are no Flash/Shockwave, amongst others, 64-bit plug-in's available, so I am forced to use FF2 x86, as well as IE7 x86, and I don't understand how anybody browses without, at a minimum, the Adobe Flash Player plug-in.
Most sites that I frequent require the Adobe Flash player, some do the Shockwave, too. I watch a lot of CNN and NBC News, and both of those, amongst many others, require the Flash player. Is anyone aware of beta plug-in's, or an ETA as to when they'll be released? Is there any other (temporary) solution that I am unaware of.

Mar 10, 2009I can't track down the exact thing that changed, but many of my internet plug-ins (QuickTime, Silverlight, Air) won't work properly. I will install the plug-in, then when I go to a site that requires it, it says it's not installed, despite clearly being the Program registry.
When I use QuickTime, I can go to various sites that have QT movies and they load fine, but if I go to Apple.com, it says I need to grab the newest QuickTime. Silverlight apps won't load at all. Any time I go to Adobe's marketplace for AIR apps, despite having one running, it says that I need to install Air. This is in both IE7 and Firefox.
Card Reader:When Plug In Gives Error
Jul 20, 2009I recently bought a Canon Rebel xti, and also a 2GB memory card along with it. I also got a Digital Concepts 21 in 1 card reader. Cin the card to the reader an error pops up saying the file doesn't have a program associated to it and i need to create one in the set associations control panel. I know where the set associations panel is, but i don't know how to actually associate a program to the reader.

Normally developers just need to recompile their plugins with the latest FilterMeister release to make them Vista-compatible, but unfortunately some developers abandoned their plugins. So we decided to create FM Patcher to enable users of these old plugins to make them work under Vista.
At the moment Fm Patcher does not fix the problem that old FilterMeister plugins have with activated Data Execution Prevention (DEP). You still need to deactivate DEP in your control panel or place your graphics application on the DEP exclusion list.

P.S. Not sure of the MoBo build. It was the original MoBo that came with the computer.
I originally did what I normally do when installing any graphics card; I uninstalled the on-board graphics card drivers and disabled it, then attempted to install the drivers for the new card. While running the installation, an error appeared telling me that it didn't detect any Nvidia compatible hardware in my setup. So I checked my device manager and sure enough, there was only the onboard card showing up in the list. So I tried restarting the computer to see if a reboot would cause it to appear. Nothing happened, so I ran CCleaner and Driver Sweeper to clear any registry and drivers issues that could be occuring. I rebooted, and still nothing appeared. So I went into the BIOS and tried to change some settings in there. I disabled the on-board through the options there, but that only caused the BIOS to give me issues and I couldn't even reach the splash screen, so I reset it and then tried changing the load settings from IGFX-GFXO-GPP-PCI to GFXO-GPP-IGFX-PCI, saved and then rebooted. I got past the splash screen on the new video card but the computer locked up before it would load the OS. So I know that both the card and the PCI-E slot on the MoBo are working fine. But I have run out of ideas as to what to try next to get this to work.
Not Detect The Graphics Card
Jun 6, 2009Now i've installed Vista Home Premium 32-bit onto the system, but it will not detect the graphics card at all. Although i have got a display (Motherboard does not have on-board). I've tried using the driver disk supplied with the card, but it always tells me to go to the XFXForce website, so i do and download their drivers and install but CCC does not appear to get installed. I've tried the card in another Vista 32-bit System and it gets found and drivers install nicely and the card works fine. Is there anything wrong that i'm doing??

Jun 24, 2008I am running Vista Home Premium. I had been running 2 Western Digital 500GB drives in RAID 0 mode. The external enclosure was a Fantom enclosure. The controller was going bad, so I bought a Xtrastor 3.5 x2 HDD enclosure which supports RAID 1. Anyhow, when I hook it up via USB, it only detects an 8GB drive. Once I got it to detect it as a 75GB drive. If I hook it up as an eSATA, Vista does not see it at all......It should detect close to 500GB since the other 500GB is for the RAID I have a PB5 motherboard. I have tried a lot of things via the cables and re-booting and such, no luck.
