i have a toshiba a3ood laptop, i have started it up after a few weeks of not using it and have a passowrd screen come up...on start up it goes to a toshiba screen with the option of pressing f2 or f12 to go somewhere or other which i have tried to do but the little blue passowrd screen asks me for the password on everythign i try to do. i do not remember settign a passowrd..

I typed in the wrong password a few times and as a result I can no longer access any of my FTP locations. I have turned off Vista's firewall, turned off AVG, checked the router, made a new port 21 rule, and restarted my PC. I simply can't figure out what might have happened and I can't seen to find any solution.

He is always changing various settings without asking so I have tried to set his account to Standard User but he still seems to be getting past that to set himself as an Administrator. I have a password set on my account as Administrator so I do not understand how he is getting past this security. He is proficient at working pc's so when I ask him how he does he just says "I am good". Does he have a way of bypassing the user setting I have given him or does he know my password if the latter then easy to fix but if he has a way to bypass this then what can I do to stop it if anything?

I change settings in control pannel / power settings / balanced to 10 min for monitor and never for computer. I check the "advanced settings" to assure that they are the same. I use balanced because that seems to be the default in the registry. I do not see the actual settings in the registry. Every so often Vista resets the settings back to 20 min for the monitor. I have looked at but it speaks of "System Settings page" - I don't know what that is. In any case, my settings have no effect and I can't get the monitor to dependably go to standby after 10 minutes.
View 7 Replies View RelatedBeen using Home Premium 64 SP1 on HP Pavilion dv7-211 laptop for about 3 months. Still using 98SE on two desktops and XP on another laptop. I'm 75 and my memory has not improved with age, so I may not remember everything correctly. My best recollection is that I didn't have the problem until recently. Every time I totally shut down I lose my resolution setting. It always returns to the lowest resolution. I've looked through the other posts and didn't spot this kind of problem.

Is there a way to make vista remember network passwords so I do not have to re-enter them everytime I re-start my computer. I have tried checking the remember password option but it does not do anything. I have also tried it with UAC on and off. I am runnig Vista Home Premium and I want to maintain a network connection to 2 computers. One is running windows server 2003 and the other is running windows 2000 server.Also is there a way to have a VPN connection re-start when a Vista computer is turned on?

Each time for instance I go to Bank of America I have to put in all my login info again. Same with TV guide.will not remember my zip code, although it's supposed to. View 4 Replies View RelatedI know every one here has this default Vista (even XP) problem. The problem is that the folder customization / layout never stays the way you set it, even minutes later after closing/re-opening explorer.
This is driving me insane. For example, in explorer under Computer I choose large icons. Close, re-open its back to list view instead.
Sometimes other folders will somehow change views by themselves too.This is really annoying.
Someone suggested a fix months ago, but I do not remember how. Would appreciate tips on this. I *do* already have checked on "remember folder's view settings" enabled as well.

About a week ago Windows Explorer was stopping from remember my folders view.. I have found a few tutorials but they was about Windows Explorer doesn't remember at all.. But in my problem it does, Just after 15 MIN it forget there view and returning to the default..
In Vista manager I have set the number of folders to 1000 and nothing!

- It's 32bit System
i encounter for quite a while now is that when i download emails it only receive one or two at a time. So every time i need to click on the send and receive or wait untill it downloads on its own time. i tried several conections and can not remember changing any settings.

I had or have (who knows now at this stage) an Administrator,User and HDD password installed on my machine. I went into my setup and changed my user password from set to clear but left my other passwords at set. when I exited and saved changes and rebooted I could not get back in with any and all passwords. To make things worse I cannot boot from cd either. It goes to press <F2> go to setup , Enter Current Password: ? then Invalad password I have tried the F10, F12, Del, F5, F8 keys and nothing seems to get past that login screen. Does anyone have any inexpensive suggestions on how I can get into this computer, or how I can get to a command prompt. Can I un-solder the internal Battery and then re attach it.

My hard drives are going crazy with activity at times during which there really shouldn't be any activity at all. I happen to have 4 Raptors in a RAID0+1 configuration and they sure are noisy when they start thrashing. I have 8 GB of RAM on the system so it shouldn't be the swap file. Ever since he purchased it he when viewing webpage's, the headers and stuff like words overlap each other and it is very hard to read. Now it is not on all webpage's but on most, and it is not the main text. For instance when you log onto EBAY, all the links on the left under Shop Your Favorite Categories are messed up. The clickable words are on top of each other yet spread out a little. Please help me out so we can get this resolved. I tried to adjust the display setting for a larger screen but that did not work. His screen settings are maxed out. I think 1440x900 @ 32 bit. I know this really does not make a whole lot of sense but it is hard to explain.

The problem I have now is that I had to reload and start over because of numerous infections (trojans, & viruses & malware etc.). I have a Netgear router with setup information that was previously installed. I went into Control Panel / Network connections And tried to activate wireless network connect 3 and it said acquiring network address Intel(R) Pro/wireless 3945ABG Network Connection. I chose /clicked on the network I had previously installed and clicked on Connect.
The wireless network connection box came up and asked me for the network key. It already had a blanked out key in the 2 boxes so I clicked on connect and it scanned and said acquiring network address. The problem is that it never acquires the address and puts a red X on the icon by the clock.
i was having some trouble setting up an ad hoc network on my computer... (i have a vista home premium computer).. anyway, it seems that the "set up an adhoc (computer to computer) network option is not available
the options that are available are:
connect to the internet
set up a wireless router or access point
set up a dial-up connection
connect to a workplace
how do i make it so the set up an adhoc (computer to computer) network option is available? (if it helps any, im trying to set one up so i can access the internet on my ipod touch)
