Jul 9, 2008I'm using windows media player 11 and the faces of the actors are BLUE!!!!! Tried adj all the display parameters... but still some prob. How do i fix this???

May 18, 2010I've read the Help file in BGInfo - but can't figure out how to use Command Line Parameters. When I click on my startup icon, I would like to invoke certain parameters. The line I came up with is: "C:Program FilesBGInfoBgInfoBginfo.exe /timer:99 /popup /taskbar /rtf:C:DATABGINFO /nolicprompt" Obviously, this is wrong. My Target line reads: "C:Program FilesBGInfoBgInfoBginfo.exe". My Start in line reads: "C:Program FilesBGInfoBgInfo"
what, exactly, should go in each line. I would also like to add lines of information to BGInfo - but that question will come after I get the above working.
Exception Processing Message [hex Number] Parameters
Nov 30, 20081. I get this annoying dialog box coming up when windows starts saying: Exception Processing Message [hex number] Parameters [hex number][hex number][hex number][hex number] I think its something to do with my c-media card reader.
2. I was messing about with services this morning and now I cant view my hard drives in Computer Management, Disk Management.
Sidebar Never Worked
Jul 29, 2009I am having problems with my sidebar, and I think with IE as well. It all started when I uninstalled McAfee from my system. When I had it installed, it would freeze my entire computer in seconds, so I uninstalled it. After that my sidebar never worked right again. The gadgets show up, but not correctly. My weather app just had a white box with a little blue "i" in the corner. My analog clock would just have a black face and a red second hand at 12 o'clock that never moved.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the gadgets, but with no luck. I have tried a few command prompt .dll commands that I have read in forums, but that didn't help. I read it might be an issue with IE8, so I downgraded to IE7, but that still didn't help. I love the sidebar and want to use it again, but nothing I do works! I also have an issue with my IE7.
I tried to sign up for these forums, but the image verification box wouldn't show up until i tried it in Firefox. I use a browser called Slimbrowser (which is based on IE I believe) and I would like to continue using it, but it may be linked to my IE problem.
External USB HDD: "Windows Does Not Recognise This Something About Wrong Parameters"
Nov 12, 2009I'd appreciate some guidance on this problem,running Vista Home Basic and I've had no problem with this 149Gb external HDD drive except when I tried to format it. It did delete everything but then says "Cannot format this drive" when I try other methods like defragmenting it or checking for error it keeps saying Windows does not recognise this something about wrong parameters. I tried Restore but no go,also nothing in the Device manager all is well with it.
After 3 days I tried to format it again and it worked,loaded some files on to it but then wanted them deleted so I formatted it and this has started all over again. It's just a spare HDD drive but I'd like to know why.
Drag And Drop Never Worked
Jan 22, 2008I have Vista Home Premium 32bit for a couple of months now. And the Drag and Drop never worked and still does not work. I mean it doesn't work at all!! I allways have to right click, copy, and paste any file. This is getting realy anoying.

Mar 16, 2009As youve seen from the title, its the access: local only error! I just built a rig this weekend, hours slaving over the damn beast! I cant connect to the internent, it says "access: local only", after doing a bit of googling i can see it must be a bit of a problem for vista? I can connect to the internet sometimes for small amonuts of time before im shut off! Im using a wierd connection straight into the router, have all drivers installed ect, other comps on the network can connect, just not mine I get a I am also getting "Cannot communicate with DNS server (ip)!! (Think its somthing todo with that!) I tired this Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers, but didnt seem to resolve the issue! I also tried disabling ipv6 and setting the DNS in ipv4 settings! Im am at my wits end!

Didn't Worked 64 Bit System
Feb 11, 2010I have lenovo Y550 laptop with vista home premium installed in it. Recently I tried installing many CD/DVD emulator softwares like 'daemon tools' and 'Win CD emulator' which din't worked in my 64 bit system, so I uninstalled them. After this everytime when I triy accessing my pendrive my system just hangs. So, I installed Microsoft's 'fix it' software. It said that there is some problem with some 'APFB3097 IDE controller' and that it can't repair it. When I opened Device manager I saw that driver under storage controller menu. One thing I observed is that, the code which appears before IDE controller is random. It keeps on changing sometimes. Also when I am in safe mode it vanishes and my all my pendrives work as well.

I just needed it and it exhibited the same problem. Both times, it worked in Safe Mode only. But then, I lost all my other Restore Points.

I have noticed that the windows old file is 43 GB which is almost half of my total memory. May 23, 2008My home network has several XP Pro SP3 computers that are networked with a common workgroup. My Vista computer is a member of WORKGROUP but isn't networking with WORKGROUP properly, although it connects properly over WiFi to the internet.First, in Explorer, there is a entry named Network (not My Network Places, etc.) that shows only this computer and no entry for WORKGROUP or for the other computers. Also, WORKGROUP is present but is empty (except for this computer) in View Computers and Devices. However, Full Map View shows the other computers and they can be opened with \computername and seen on Net View IP. So, how do I make those computers show up in explorer or View Computers or in some other accessible place? Also, the Vista computer is not visible from the other computers. If searched for with \computername, a error message says "computername is not accessible. You might not have permission ..." Net View IP reports "System Error 5. Access is denied."
All computers are using the WORKGROUP name. Same results with all firewalls disabled. Files are being shared. Private Network, Network discovery On, File sharing On Public Folder sharing On, Password protected sharing off, Media Sharing On, WINS NetBios setting Default. The XP computers are running Link-Layer and NW Link NetBios.
Navigation Blocked - And No Fixes Worked
May 28, 2008a new vista system, and I cannot get into my email or access some secured sites. I have an XP system with IE7 and it is working fine to get to these sites. I have cleared all the caches, history, temp, etc., did not fix. I have checked all the various SSL including 1.0, did not fix. I have pulled down firewall, did not fix. Of course, put it back up. I have added secure site to list and unchecked require authentication, did not fix. I wish I could download the certificate - but I cannot get to the site! When clicking continue to site, the navigation blocked appears and will not allow me to proceed. I have unchecked the two URL certificate required settings, did not fix. I have tried to download firefox/other browers - will not let me - says downloaded but not done! Also, there is no system restore point - this is a brand new machine. Cannot find any definitive hot fix info on this from microsoft. I have done a complete brower reset, did not fix.

Apr 13, 2008I have a copy of Home Premium 64 bit that I have yet to use. I purchased it assuming that I would want to upgrade in the future when the kinks were worked out. With the release of SP1 I am finally considering getting rid of XP altogether and going with Vista straight out. The only problem is, I mostly use my computer for gaming. I know, back when, Vista 64 was a poor option for gamers. Has anything changed with all of the updates? Are there gamers that happily run on Vista 64? How is the performance comparatively to XP 32-Bit? The main reasons I want to upgrade are obvious.. so I can utilize all of my memory, and so I can play games in DX10 mode.

Dec 28, 2008I'm completely lost here. I just bought an Acer Aspire 4720z at the beginning of the month and I completely regret it already!! It came with Vista Home Premium, 2GB of memory, 120 GB hard drive and intel dual processor 1.83GHZ. About a week after I got it the stupid empowering technology framework errored out and hasn't worked since. I never even got a chance to make the recovery CD since I didn't know I would have to make one and didn't buy any DVD-r's.
Well I called Acer and they say the only way to fix the errors I'm getting is to restore to factory default and they sent me the set of recovery disks that I need. Well I guess I should of just said screw it and left it alone. It gets all the way through the restore to where it restarts then command prompt comes up sayings "Update device driver, please wait" Then the error "Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed" comes up. I click OK and it restarts the computer and now all I get is "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click "OK" to restart the computer and then restart installation".
I have tried to reinstall it probably over 7 times now with the same results. I was on the phone with Acer most the day yesterday. They gave me 2 ISOs to downlaod and burn that format and partition the hard drive. They work but when I go to put Vista on it, I get the same error over and over again. I really don't want to resort to sending it in for repair and they said chances are that's the next step. I'm half tempted just to put XP on it but I've only had it a month and I don't want to void the warranty. ? Let me know if you need any more information about my system.
User Profile Service Failed The Logon - Multiple Tuturials Tried, None Worked!

The User Profile could not been loaded" (note I've got the Dutch version, so my error messages may be a bit confusing ^^) I've already tried multiple tuturials to fix this, containing tut's of your Administrator Brink. None worked. Now, what happens to be:
After creating the profile through the User Aaccount Management console, I choose for the option "Logon to other user", and try to login to my newly created account. After typing the pass the above error message appears. I only have my (first) admin account that works, but I want to have more accounts on my notebook............
Display Upside Down
Aug 15, 2009I accidently hit some key combination that flip the display on my Vista laptop. Everything was upside down and the cursor moved in the opposite direction than what the physical moved. In other words, if I move mouse to right cursor moved to left. Not sure what keys I hit.
Left Hand: Maybe key or or or any two of these.
Right Hand: Maybe or or or
I did these keystrokes with one motion.
I had to use System Restore to get back to a normal display.
Can someone tell me what keys I hit and how to restore display?

Nov 28, 2008Possibly not even a Vista problem, but this seems to be a pretty good resource overall so I was hoping somebody might have an idea what's wrong. I am running a pair of eVGA 7950 GT cards in SLI, no overclock anywhere, and I get a very odd display whenever I get into some kind of 3d game. I have attached a screenshot of HL2; however, this also happens in WoW so it's not game dependant. Any idea how I get rid of this crazy display? You can see there is some ghetto lettering that says SLI in the top left corner, and there is what could best be described as a green histogram along the left edge of the screen that "breathes" as the scene changes.

May 15, 2010When starting up Vista, my display is always off to the left of the screen, meaning my start button is way off the screen and there's a black space on the right, like the display has simply been moved 2 inches to the left. I can fix it, by entering NVIDIA Control Panel and switch connector: back and forth between HDMI-HDTV (audio disabled) and HDMI - HDTV (audio enabled). but if the pc enters sleep or I reboot the problem is back.
Now I know the general problem because I had it with xp also, seems my monitor likes to tell my pc that it's a tv (I'm sorry I'm not into the tech lingo). And I've fixed it previously by changing codes in .ini files and ect. but I'd rather not do it on a new crisp clean first time install of Vista, anyone know of this problem and how to fix it for good?

May 2, 2009I have a problem, for some reason when im playing games such as cod4 or gta4 or something. Il be playing fine for quite a long time, certainly a few hours but then randomly the screen will just stop, and the whole computer will freeze.
I noticed that on the frozen screen small parts of it had small purple lines going round them.
Well the only way to get out of this is to do a hard boot and start up my pc again.
Im wondering why this happens as i have all up to date drivers and my pc easily meets the requirements to play the games im playing.
Same Display On Two Monitors

However, somehow, while attempting to get the external monitor to display and not the laptop's monitor, I ended up with an extended view of the desktop on both. Laptop is Vista Home Edition.I followed the link to set up Dualview, but there wasn't anything in there

I don't need the desktop to be extended across both monitors.I simply want the external monitor to display the same thing as my laptop or have the laptop monitor be blank. I need an external monitor, because the screen on the laptop is cracked.
My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite and within one week of buying it at Best Buy, the screen cracked. (It was in a metal laptop case and did not sustain any trauma, so there is no reason for it to have cracked. Best Buy basically told me to stuff it and tried to charge me for an estimate when I brought it in for other problems with it. Toshiba has yet to respond to my letter about the problem.
Display Too Large
Mar 26, 2008All of a sudden the display on my computer got HUGE. i read the other discussions and used the screen resoulution to adjust it. It is small now but it apperars blurry or something.
