I have Vista Home Premium 32bit for a couple of months now. And the Drag and Drop never worked and still does not work. I mean it doesn't work at all!! I allways have to right click, copy, and paste any file. This is getting realy anoying.

I have an Acer Extensa 5430 Laptop running Windows Vista 32 bit. I cannot seem to drag and drop on this computer - it always copies the file and then I have to go back and delete the original. Is there a setting somewhere that I can change so that it's moving the file instead of copying?

for a regualr user's dos prompt (c:windowssystem32cmd.exe), how could one enable receive of drag and drop from explorer?
I'm a desktop publisher/graphic designer by trade. and i damn well can't drag and drop files from explorer into photoshop or illustrator, or Filezilla for uploading. a quick fix i did was to give my major programs admin rights (*.exe > RMB > roperties > compatibility "run this program as an administrator")
this seems to work but it is fussy as to when it wants to work 100% of the time. Also any programs that need to run as xp compatible (eg: yz-dock) can not have the drag and drop ability as they in turn are running at xp compatible being a "child" as it were of yz-dock. once the same shortcut is on the desktop....it works ok. my design programs are in the task bar/quickstart area and not on yz-dock. hence my concerns.
Why can't I drag an icon from the notification area to my desktop or taskbar? I found some help on how to create a shortcut by right clicking screen and selecting new and so on, then type in some code and then change icon picture if I wanted to. That a long an drawn out process. I can drag and drop anything else but nothing from the notification area. Odd.....
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having a lot of problems with my vista. As of a couple of days ago, I'm no longer able to copy/paste or drag and drop with ease. For example, to drag and drop a browser window I drag the window but need to left click my mouse to release it. It’s the same thing if I am scrolling a page. When I try to copy paste, it’s the same sort of thing, but a little "Accelerator" icon appears and gives me the option to search the word in google. It also doesn't "highlight" the word or phrase properly, and has become a pain to try to make it stick (if that makes any sense).

View 4 Replies View RelatedAnyone know if it is possible to create a shortcut drag & drop target so that when I drag a program and drop it on the shortcut, then select "open with" the shortcut that is dropped on can insert the name of the dropped program into the command line params? IOW, say I want a shortcut that opens a program at x y 100 100 no matter what I drop on it. My program knows how to do the positioning but it needs to read the name of the dropped program as well as the rest of the params in its shortcut. I've tried MyProg.exe "%1" x y in the target line but when I drop anything on it and do Open With I get "%1" not found. Is there a magic bullet?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just migrated from Windows XP Pro to Vista Ultimate (64bit). So far things have run *fairly* smoothly, but I am astonished at the length of time it is taking for me to copy files. For instance I want to copy 1/2 dozen folders from my "D" partition to my "C" partition (drag & drop using Windows Explorer - both partitions are NTFS, and I get the same result copying files on the same partition too). These files existed on my previous XP install, and when I copied them from D to C on XP it took around 2 minutes or so. Now the exact same files are taking upwards of 25+ minutes to copy in Vista! Is there some reason why Vista is acting like a decrepit 90 year old? :-)

The system should work and I do not care if it have transparent windows or not. It have to be fast and have all function I had in former System (Windows XP in my case) What am I lacking in Vista:
1.No search i context menu
2.No drag and drop to command prompt
3.No folder backup (ntbackup)
4 Eating more than 1GB ram
5 More clicking to get to the same properties
Can any of you tell me why should I stay with Vista? It is your last chance to convinced me.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with my sidebar, and I think with IE as well. It all started when I uninstalled McAfee from my system. When I had it installed, it would freeze my entire computer in seconds, so I uninstalled it. After that my sidebar never worked right again. The gadgets show up, but not correctly. My weather app just had a white box with a little blue "i" in the corner. My analog clock would just have a black face and a red second hand at 12 o'clock that never moved.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the gadgets, but with no luck. I have tried a few command prompt .dll commands that I have read in forums, but that didn't help. I read it might be an issue with IE8, so I downgraded to IE7, but that still didn't help. I love the sidebar and want to use it again, but nothing I do works! I also have an issue with my IE7.
I tried to sign up for these forums, but the image verification box wouldn't show up until i tried it in Firefox. I use a browser called Slimbrowser (which is based on IE I believe) and I would like to continue using it, but it may be linked to my IE problem.
As youve seen from the title, its the access: local only error! I just built a rig this weekend, hours slaving over the damn beast! I cant connect to the internent, it says "access: local only", after doing a bit of googling i can see it must be a bit of a problem for vista? I can connect to the internet sometimes for small amonuts of time before im shut off! Im using a wierd connection straight into the router, have all drivers installed ect, other comps on the network can connect, just not mine I get a I am also getting "Cannot communicate with DNS server (ip)!! (Think its somthing todo with that!) I tired this Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers, but didnt seem to resolve the issue! I also tried disabling ipv6 and setting the DNS in ipv4 settings! Im am at my wits end!

Recently I tried installing many CD/DVD emulator softwares like 'daemon tools' and 'Win CD emulator' which din't worked in my 64 bit system, so I uninstalled them. After this everytime when I triy accessing my pendrive my system just hangs. So, I installed Microsoft's 'fix it' software. It said that there is some problem with some 'APFB3097 IDE controller' and that it can't repair it. When I opened Device manager I saw that driver under storage controller menu. One thing I observed is that, the code which appears before IDE controller is random. It keeps on changing sometimes. Also when I am in safe mode it vanishes and my all my pendrives work as well.

I just needed it and it exhibited the same problem. Both times, it worked in Safe Mode only. But then, I lost all my other Restore Points.

I have noticed that the windows old file is 43 GB which is almost half of my total memory. My Vista computer is a member of WORKGROUP but isn't networking with WORKGROUP properly, although it connects properly over WiFi to the internet.First, in Explorer, there is a entry named Network (not My Network Places, etc.) that shows only this computer and no entry for WORKGROUP or for the other computers. Also, WORKGROUP is present but is empty (except for this computer) in View Computers and Devices. However, Full Map View shows the other computers and they can be opened with \computername and seen on Net View IP. So, how do I make those computers show up in explorer or View Computers or in some other accessible place? Also, the Vista computer is not visible from the other computers. If searched for with \computername, a error message says "computername is not accessible. You might not have permission ..." Net View IP reports "System Error 5. Access is denied."
All computers are using the WORKGROUP name. Same results with all firewalls disabled. Files are being shared. Private Network, Network discovery On, File sharing On Public Folder sharing On, Password protected sharing off, Media Sharing On, WINS NetBios setting Default. The XP computers are running Link-Layer and NW Link NetBios.
a new vista system, and I cannot get into my email or access some secured sites. I have an XP system with IE7 and it is working fine to get to these sites. I have cleared all the caches, history, temp, etc., did not fix. I have checked all the various SSL including 1.0, did not fix. I have pulled down firewall, did not fix. Of course, put it back up. I have added secure site to list and unchecked require authentication, did not fix. I wish I could download the certificate - but I cannot get to the site! When clicking continue to site, the navigation blocked appears and will not allow me to proceed. I have unchecked the two URL certificate required settings, did not fix. I have tried to download firefox/other browers - will not let me - says downloaded but not done! Also, there is no system restore point - this is a brand new machine. Cannot find any definitive hot fix info on this from microsoft. I have done a complete brower reset, did not fix.

This used to be a good way of opening a webpage in a specific IE window instead of clicking the link which would open in whichever window it felt like - which might be over the top of a web page you want to keep open. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a copy of Home Premium 64 bit that I have yet to use. I purchased it assuming that I would want to upgrade in the future when the kinks were worked out. With the release of SP1 I am finally considering getting rid of XP altogether and going with Vista straight out. The only problem is, I mostly use my computer for gaming. I know, back when, Vista 64 was a poor option for gamers. Has anything changed with all of the updates? Are there gamers that happily run on Vista 64? How is the performance comparatively to XP 32-Bit? The main reasons I want to upgrade are obvious.. so I can utilize all of my memory, and so I can play games in DX10 mode.
