It monitors automatic updates, and processes and sends them to a lower priority queue in order to make your processes and work run faster (if I am not mistaken). My SuperFetch crashes when I update McAfee, or other programs. This then crashes my svchost.exe..... In fact.. this is the second computer I have recieved from Dell. The first (exact same) was crashing under a stop code of 0X0000001A and having issues with the svchost.exe. I exchanged it, and this computer aswell is having similar issues (although not many unexpected crashes). This computer has only crashed for explained reasons (graphic drivers out of date, etc.) All reasons have been fixed, and haven't had a crash since. If there is any logical explanation for why this is happening, i'd love to get an opinion from a software-savvy person out there because I know little to nothing about computers to be completely honest.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI built this computer about a year ago. I installed Vista Home Premium 64 bit along with 4x1 gig sticks of dual sided RAM. Vista memory test said that everything was good. Recently I`ve been getting an error message telling me that the Superfetch has stopped working. This usually happens while running memory intensive programs. I checked out Superfetch and it was set to Start and Automatic. I did another memory test with Vista memory test tool and this time it tells me that I have a hardware problem. At the end of the test it is supposed to reboot and give me a detail list of the errors but instead I get another error message telling me that "windows has failed to start put in the installation disk and use the repair option.
"When I try to repair with the disk it tells me that I should remove A recent USB device that I have on my computer such as a music player. The only USB devices I have connected to the computer is my keyboard, mouse and printer. I use the computer to charge my ipod but I have long since removed it. I don`t know what to do. I tried swapping out each individual stick of RAM and running the memory test but I get the same results. All of the sticks can`t be bad can they? I reinstallled the motherboard drivers. Same results. Vista also keeps telling me that I need to activate. I activated 4 times already. The activation was successful but Vista just keeps asking me to activate. I have`nt made any major hardware changes except for swapping the memory to do the tests.

This can often take up to one minute to come up on the screen. As I am well aware of what I am doing, I would like to disable this Vista feature. I have already disabled UAC, but not this one. There is no doubt a simple answer, how to accomplish this. If you do respond, please tell me the full path to reach the target, as I do not consider myself to be an expert.

I don't want any firewalls. I don't want any antivirus. I don't want any automatic updates of any kind to anything. I don't want any popups asking for permission to do anything. I'd rather not have all the bloat and duplication in folders for different users. I want a single-user system and to be administrator of all things. Yes, I'll put some tiny subset of this back with third-party tools THAT I CONTROL. I've been poking around fixing up one issue after another...but it's a task. Is this info all in one place? Or better yet, a magic incantation to remove ALL of it in one fell swoop?
i don't find this on the i'net after a month on google so i'll post here. it seems the alps drivers do not fully support v.x64. doesn't have the disable button anywhere. today vaio help (tier 3, supposedly) finally told me the above which i told there tier 2 a week ago, i guess he didn't read the notes. said i would have to live with it. they wouldn't help w/ registry hack. probably means they didn't know it. bad, bad, bad sony. anyway, to the chase. i saw where linux people could use synaptics drivers. tried the same trick w/ v.x64. there was the button under start>control panel>mousec>device settings>disable. those penguins aren't so bad. i have a severe neurological disease and that touchpad rendered a $1200.00 computer unuseable. sony's response was "live with it." to quote my favorite tech authorities, the three stooges, "chowderheads." let me reiterate "bad sony, bad sony." Drivers | Synaptics v.10.1.8 worked for me on win vista home premium x4, sp1/vaio vgn-fw170j.

View 7 Replies View RelatedJust wondering why the reported Physical Memory in the Task Manager drops to 14%, after an hour or so, from 28% when initially starting the system. Processes drop from 49 to 46. Mainly Trustedinstaller and winupdate processes. I know some applications check for updates upon boot, but I kind of disabled most (if not all) of them except Vista updates. Also one of the many svchost.exe starts off with a reported Commit Size of 177K and later is down to 155K. This of course is not a problem. Just Vista64 curious!

Every time I go deeper into web pages or click on additonal links within a web the DEP shuts down Internet Explorer and will not take me into where I want to go, It does this on any all sites. View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm on Vista x64 Home Premium (SP1), and I have a problem. When my laptop got shipped with Vista, I disabled UAC on the spot because of various software incompatibility. Recently I have been led to enable it again because of some failing software. It didn't solve the problem and thus I decided to disable it again. However, this time, when I go on to User Accounts and I click on the "Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off", it brings up the popup that asks me whether I want to proceed. I click "Yes", expecting the dialog box to show up so that I can successfully disable the UAC. But the dialog box never came up. The UAC popup just closed and the computer remained motionless. I tried rebooting, and manually deactivating UAC using command-line prompts which yielded "Access Denied".
And now, I cannot use my computer effectively, as most of my software is uncompatible with UAC and fails to run. Is there any way to fix this ? I only have one account that is being marked as Administrator, and it seems quite strange that I can't set UAC back off again. Google search didn't help me a lot either - most links only tell me how to actually disable it, which fails on my system....
Is it plausible to disable parts of UAC? this because I hate the parts -blocked startupprograms (in dutch geblokkeerde opstartprogramma's) -'are you sure you want to proceed'-messages (weet u zeker dat u hiermee door wilt gaan) , but the other parts are very usefull. so is it plausible to disable these parts? the only thing I know is how to disable the whole UAC.

This is extremely annoying. If I want to know the meaning of a word I can look it up. It is not necessary to know the meaning of each and every word the mouse passes over!! I do however only have 2 "normal" speakers -- no surround equipment or anything like that at all. And I think the audio sounds weird now, compared with my old PC, which did not have this "HD Audio" thing. Is there any way to go back to plain old audio? Maybe it can be done in the Realtek HD Audio confguration in the Control Panel?

-Enabling File Sharing.

I don't want to do this via VPN connection Basically I've tried all I know. So I'm assuming this can't be done, security reasons for this?Probably. I can't even telnet into the above ports to see if it will accept the connection. RDP with port forwarding works fine as does Web Access. Reason? I do programming at both Home and Work, but would like a centralized location of where the projects are stored. If I could get to my Home PCs Shared Folder using the UNC path, that would be great.
