I'm looking to Share a folder on my Vista Ultimate machine. I want this folder to be accessible via the WAN. Simply put, is this possible? I have not found information going either way right now.
Firewall is using Windows One Care
What I've tried:
-Enabling File Sharing.
-Enabling Public File Sharing.
-Enabled Firewall exception for File Sharing.....
I don't want to do this via VPN connection Basically I've tried all I know. So I'm assuming this can't be done, security reasons for this?Probably. I can't even telnet into the above ports to see if it will accept the connection. RDP with port forwarding works fine as does Web Access. Reason? I do programming at both Home and Work, but would like a centralized location of where the projects are stored. If I could get to my Home PCs Shared Folder using the UNC path, that would be great.
is there any way to disable the Stealth mode "feature" in the Windows Vista (Seven, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2)? Here {url} the MS says:
"Stealth mode is enabled by default", but nothing about disabling. This behavior is against RFC and dramatically slows down security scanners installed in our network. So, is there any way of using windows firewall and being nice RFC compliant boy?
As things stand right now: PC 1 - Windows Vista Business. Firewall disabled. DHCP address from Linksys wired DSL router. PC 2 - Windows XP Pro. Firewall disabled. DHCP address from Linksys wired DSL router. Both machines are in the same workgroup.
The XP machine can ping the router, ping the Vista machine by IP address, access the internet, access file shares on the Vista machine by ip address (\addressshare). It cannot ping the Vista machine by name. The Vista machine can ping the router and access the internet. It cannot ping the XP machine by name or address (request timed out).
Vista Ipconfig output: ------------------------------------- Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Dell1 Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No.......
I am using Vista ultimate with a new Canon LBP2900I laser printer. If I print with the windows firewall turned on it takes an age ti get a print out, if I turn off the firewall it prints stright away. All the drivers are up to date. In the firewall exceptions the printer is listed and ticked
Windows Vista Basic sp1. Im using a 3rd party firewall program. In Administrative Tools---Services it shows Windows Firewall status as Started. But, in Security Center it shows my 3rd party firewall being On but Windows Firewall being off. Also, in Administrative Tools---Windows Firewall with Advanced Security is showing Windows Firewall being on in Domain Profile. Is this normal? Why would one show Windows Firewall as On and another show it as Off?
My firewall gives me this error message when i try to set it on. "Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall service." I have just installed SP1 but the problem started before that.
I have Vista 32 Home Premium and its an Laptop. And Im using Nod32 as Antivirus protection, but I thought that I maybe should buy a firewall also? Cuz Im using Windows Firewall, (the one in Control panel) but I dont really know if it is really enough, cuz Im using a router with out wires. Ps: On my other computer I tried Outpost once, and it totally screwed my internet, we had to buy some hardware thing into the computer and pay a guy to do that, so maybe not Outpost
I check my firewall options, the firewall is 'off' and in red. I continue to turn it back on, but when I check it again later; it is off again. Could this be a virus, something serious? or is it a setting that I need to change?
I'm really at the end of my tether with this issue - have a laptop which has windows Vista installed. Whenever I boot up the Windows Firewall is turned on. However, towards the end of the boot process, the Windows Firewall turns itself off, almost as if when a program loads it knocks it out. Is there anyway I can do a walk thru' of the boot up process so I can see if I can capture which program or process is doing it? At my wits end.
I have a Acer notebook. It had Norton security already installed. I removed this recently and put a AVG anti virus on. This seems to be fine. What I am finding is that when I turn on the computer the Firewall is off. I then reset it to on but again it is off on start up. This did not happen when Norton was installed.
Everytime I turn my laptop on or log back into it the windows firewall is turned off... Is there anyway to keep it on so I don't have to manually turn it on all the time?
I need a firewall & AV protection, I'm kinda settled on getting: COMODO Firewall and AVAST. 'm looking at Comodo Internet Security v3.3 only the firewall part and then the free Avast whic has caught everything for me in the past but on XP; now I'm using vista ultimate 32bit. I wanted to run it by here first to see if anyone has good/bad experience with the two programs running together.
How is Vista firewall compared to the freebie standards like AVG and Avast? I have Avast running on my Home Premium 32 version, but the built-in one is running too, which can create conflicts.
I installed ZoneAlarm Firewall and after that my PC stopped responding. I`m using my PC in safe mode. And when I turn it on on normal mode, my PC loads and then it stops responding. I can`t use System Restore because System Protection is turned off.
I'm running Vista Home Premium SP2, 2 GB RAM, SAS, MBAM, CA (California Associates) AV (e-mail scanning disabled); Avira AV/Update scheduler, CCleaner, and Windows Firewall, WLM on an Acer Aspire Desktop machine.
The system is running just great, however, I've always wondered why I need both the CA and the Windows firewall running at the same time. In CA I can create a list of website that are allowed thru the firewall, but I'm not sure if I can do that with Windows firewall.
Is it OK to disable the CA firewall permanently? Is there a way to specify what is allowed thru the Windows firewall. And lastly, should I just uninstall the whole CA suite altogether?
I'm currently running McAfee Internet Security. Yesterday I was talking to my computer tech who said he didn't like McAfee and recommended the free version of AVG and windows Firewall.
i'd like to know details about the vista firewall. Does it now indeed block incoming and outgoing? i assume microsoft didnot create the firewall for nothing. So is it really neccesary to install another one, and if so, do i then need to turn off the windows firewall? and if i need another one, which one?
Can anyone help me with uninstalling Comodo completely? I have uninstalled using windows and everything seemed ok. However, using Security Center, Comodo is still showing as installed. Have tried using Revo Uninstaller and also a registry cleaned. Have also tried Scans with Spybot and Adware but it still sits there in an 'on' state. I have tried to reinstall Comodo but get the message that 'Comodo is already installed and would I like to uninstall now'.When I click ok to uninstall the box disappears but nothing else happens. So it appears that I am stuck with this firewall but there is no way to access it as the only reference to it is via Security Center. The next step is throwing the window......can someone please assist in this. Not too technically minded so worried about any remedies involving regedit or cmd !
I'm using a 3rd party firewall program. In Administrative Tools---Services it shows Windows Firewall status as Started. But, in Security Center it shows my 3rd party firewall being On but Windows Firewall being. Off. Why would one show Windows Firewall as Started and another show it as Off?
Would anyone happen to be able to recommend an all in one antivirus, firewall, etc. that works with Vista well and doesnt have problems on the OS and also runs without using a lot of memory? I have Norton 360 v2 and System Mechanic 7 Pro, and i'm stuck on which or if either should be used on Vista?
I am running Windows Live OneCare and the firewall is enabled. The Vista Firewall services are set to automatic, however on bootup the Vista Firewall is turned off. Shouldn't be a problem but whenever the Vista Firewall is disabled I am getting unwanted traiffic on my laptop which the Live OneCare isn't blocking.
I get a security alert saying my antivirus software may not be installed. Then, later I get a popup from Norton saying Windows Firewall has been turned on. Do u want to use Norton Internet Security instead of Windows Firewall? My Windows Firewall had always been turned on. This started the other day after I did salvagerepository to fix something else. Does Windows Vista recognize Norton? How do I stop these from popping up? Also, my free subscription to norton ends in a week?
I downloaded and used it. The firewall for Vista was turned off because of it, but it also warned that there is no firewall, even though I have Privatefirewall installed. It should state PrivateFirewall is installed or there is another firewall installed rather than stating there is no firewall or it is not turned on. Should it be ignored or fixed?
Awhile ago I disabled windows firewall as I was using Norton 360's firewall. The other day, I uninstalled Norton and tried to reactivate Windows Vista Firewall and it fails to do so. It says to try manually and that does not work either. I even tried restarting the computer and that did not cure the problem. It keeps telling me that the service is not running and when I try it fails to load again.
I'm running Vista on my new laptop and have had a couple problems with my firewall turning off by itself. I do have McAfee on it that also keeps saying that there is an error with security and that it has stopped running. It does this everytime I turn it on and go online. I do have an additional anti-virus program called Threatfire which is another free downloadable program that was suggested by a couple of local computer techs. Whenever I run a virus scan everything comes up clean with the exception of Threatfire alerting me several times of potential malware that I've quarantined. I noticed on a previous question that a anti-virus program called "AVG" is mentioned and another download through Kaspersky.com. Has anyone else even heard of ThreatFire and is it comparable to these other free antivirus programs?
